QuoteHere's how Congressional appropriators themselves describe the news:
Removing Special Restrictions on the District of Columbia:...Also allows the District to implement a referendum on use of marijuana for medical purposes as has been done in other states, allows use of Federal funds for needle exchange programs except in locations considered inappropriate by District authorities...
Well then. Good news i suppose.
MJ's out, abortions are in.
Nowadays, the main beef in Congress is federal money for abortions. MJ is yesterday's chuck roast.
Medical Maryjane? On my east coast?
no fucking way!
Maine has had legal medical marijuana for years. This year they voted to allow dispensaries, without which a medical marijuana law was kind of pointless.
though since you're from NY, Maine may not qualify as your east coast.
:lulz:
well I'm from CT, and certainly don't identify with NY.
Yo I heard last night that in CA, Snoop Dogg is a licensed medical mary jane distributor. So you can actually buy weed from snoop dogg?? that's fucking classic
no shit? I'm probably headed down to LA sometime this winter. you got a link or anything that might help direct me to Snoop's store?
damn - not finding anything :argh!:
great rumor though
I've found it reported in a few places, but no actual link to any store or anything.

one good place to go in LA (there are lots) is a place called green earth collective.
yay for DC but I'll be happier when the entire US wakes up and legalizes possession of glass pipes too. (http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=8012)

?
There may be some local prohibitions, as appears was formerly the case in Breckenridge, CO, but for the most part, my understanding is that the possession of pipes, papers and assorted paraphernalia isn't illegal, provided it's for
tobacco use only. Otherwise we wouldn't have head shops, along with miscellaneous convenience stores selling the same.
Of course, selling such materials can give the police a good reason to [want to] raid your business, but generally the simple possession of pipes isn't illegal, to my knowledge. Unless I'm wrong and there are alotta stores over here selling illegal shit.

Glass pipes are legal. That's why you can buy them in liscenced stores. It's only if they've got pot in them that you're fucked. :?
Mistress Freeky,
Has a pretty glass pipe she bought from a shop.
yeah, glass pipes are perfectly legal unless they've been used by you goddamn dope-smokers.
ECH,
only takes big rips of tobacco through his bong

That's because we're in Arizona, where everything is legal except people.

Yes.
Although technically, MY pipe would get me in trouble cuz of sillyness that I partook of years ago. Or the ex would get in trouble rather, as it's over at the apartment still.
Progress? maybe.
I also heard that teh feds can no longer have jurisdiction in the states' decision to allow legal pot.
Or something like that.
Personally, I think-the only reason pot is not legal is because it would be almost impossible to conduct a dui charge against someone who's been smokin.
There really isn't a breathalyser for pot smoking.
* doesn't think pot is all that bad*
except for the eating part of course.
it is very likely that in 2010 Oregon will be voting on whether or not to legalize recreational cannabis and sell it in state-run stores just like liquor. The initiative is called the Oregon Cannabis Tax Act, and signature collection will begin on July 2nd. A similar measure known as Regulate, Control, and Tax Cannabis Act has already qualified for the ballot in California.

I can't wait! And I'm not even a pot smoker nor have I ever been to either Oregon or California. I just can't wait to see the wingnuts throw a shit fit over this. You can't buy that kind of entertainment.
I don't see it causing much of a fuss in Oregon but Cali could be a different matter.

They keep trying with that one. I'll be voting for, of course, but there are a fuckton of white-truck-driving suburbanites who'll vote it down.
you're going to the wrong people, then.
I can get a lb. in LA for $3200. $4000 if it's top-notch.
and a short drive up to Lancaster or Lompoc generally drops $500-$600 off of that.
Ah, good to know I'm not being ripped off too much then.
Just out of curiousity, how do you determine what is "top-notch", and what isn't?
usually by how stoned it gets me. I'm also a sucker for weed that tastes good, but not everyone cares about that and I've had weed that tasted like catpiss and knocked me on my ass with one or two puffs.
in general, as far as pricing goes, you'll find that outdoor < indoor < hydroponic and unknown strain < known and marketable strain < rare strain or boutique crossbreed.
Unfortunately I don't know my shit from shit. And I have no regular contacts in stupid Toronto  The stuff here - around 1/3 to 1/2 a joint is enough for me, but I'm a lightweight with no tolerance, so I've no idea how it compares.
I just want to be able to grow it in my garden.
I wouldn't mind weaker pot. I can't handle the stuff as it stands.

The mix of Sativa and Indica in any given strain will drastically affect the 'high'. Some of the strains being cultivated specifically for Marijuana are heavily bred for CBD rather than so much THC. That gives you the relaxing, pain killer stuff without the "What was I talking about?" or 'Whoooo, my head" stuff ;-)

you'll be able to if the law passes. it also legalizes growing it for personal use without need of a med card.

Now that's cool! I didn't know that!
AFAIK, it will still be a felony to sell it on the black market in any amount.
Oregon is "funny" like that.

There won't be a black market anymore. It grows like a weed; people won't be able to give the stuff away, if it's legal to grow your own.

I never had any luck growing it outdoors in Washington. Although our growing season may be a bit shorter than yours.
yeah, you might be able to get one outdoor crop down here with a 60-day strain in a good summer. won't be anything worth writing home about, probably.
ETA: you can grow some dank outdoor weed in WA, but you gotta go east to do it. I grew some out in the dry shitties a long time ago that turned out pretty good.
It won't have to be strong, if it's free.
It does grow perfectly well outdoors here; when I was a kid we had neighbors who grew it, and my old tenants grew it as well.
come to think of it, my dad used to grow it outside here when he lived on a houseboat. Also on Government Island.
There are allegedly tracts in Forest Park that occasionally get busted, too.
