I didn't want to post anything about this until it was given a definite green-light, but considering, if this is going down, it will be happening very shortly, I figured I'd start it up just in case...
So, I've been flyering the ever-loving fuck out of my campus. One method I've been using is stealing a stack of school newspapers, seeding them with flyers and then returning them to the rack. This, unsurprisingly, caught the attention of the newspaper's lead editor. I heard through the grape-vine that they wanted to do a story on Discordia. At this point, I put aside the anonymity that I had relied on and approached the lead editor. Long story short, he's a sympathiser, so I made my demands. He caved so quickly, that I made more.
This is what I earned in the end:
They are going to print my propaganda in every issue, which beats the hell out of the aforementioned methods. They are also giving us a full page for straigt-up Discordian type articles. To top it off, they are also giving us some of their valuable ad space, which is their only means of generating revenue, so the fact that they are just giving it up is awesome.
This is where I'd like some of you guys to step in. As far as the full page goes, I would like to have some writings from people that post here, new stuff or anything you may have kicking around. I would like to have every peice that's contributed take the form of a letter, so if anyone who reads them actually traces it back here, they'll see the names and be all like "OMG, (contributor) does exist!" Furthermore, I would like whatever letters that appear in the paper to correspond with whatever propaganda we're running that month. For instance, if we print something like this (http://www.scribd.com/doc/22170321/Doing-the-Right-Thing) for propaganda, the article in that issue should be something about people willingly giving up their rights or anything along those lines.
Now, the really cool part. Ad space. I feel this should be used for things like scheduling simultanious Pagan Workshops and Christian Prayer Meetings and similar spaggotry (I would also like to use things like Nigel's "Lost Moustache (http://www.scribd.com/doc/24244617/Lost-Moustache)" and FP's "Think You Might Need Help? (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=11461.90)" posters, that is, if they don't mind).
Okay, you've got the long, now here's the short of it. I have some propaganda like this (http://www.scribd.com/doc/21764986/Don-t-be-Afraid), this (http://www.scribd.com/doc/21763849/Swiss-Terorism), this (http://www.scribd.com/doc/22773930/Swine-Flu-Brought-to-You-by) and the one listed above, all of which I may use. What I would like from any one willing to lend a hand is: writings/rants relevant to the printed propaganda. If these are not in the form of a letter, I will add an official looking letter-head and reformat it to appear more like a letter. I would also like some more/better ideas for things to do with the ad space, I feel this is where we'll get the best WTF moments (I have this (http://www.scribd.com/doc/22170238/Orange-Alert), but I'm not sure if it's good enough to use). Also, if anyone has some good propaganda, that would be cool, too. And, as always any suggestions or advice on content/implementation are always welcomed.
This is fucking glorious. I need to step up activities at my school and hope the newspaper itself becomes a reality, or else grab the attention of editors at the neighboring campus.
Holy crap that is awesome Dimo.
Wow, this is great! Feel free to use anything of mine except for my poems and children's stories.
Deadlines for current propaganda topic themes ?????
Nice work Dimo! Feel free to use/reuse and mish-mash anything of mine with or without attribution. Let me know if you'd like anything reworked -- I tend to just carelessly throw shit together, but I still have all the source files so I can tweak elements or modify for the dimensions you need.
That's awesome.
Maybe I can throw something together.

Thanks, and now that you mention it, would you mind reworking the "need help" so that it only has one Pope card instead of the tabs? If it's in the paper (as opposed to on a flyer) it doesn't really need more than one. I mean, it's not super important, but if you can find the time.

These guys are always behind schedule, so any deadline I could give now would be pretty arbitrary. He's supposed to be sending me the spring schedule soon, so I can post it as soon as I get it. In the mean-time, there's no reason to give it an ASAP deadline. Doing it that way we end up with more material than we could use, which I feel is a better place to be in than not having enough.

Thankee!
And also, as it is now, nothing is set in stone, so if anyone thinks of anything relevant that doesn't necesarily meet the "parameters" of the OP, feel free to share. This can be pretty flexible.

Oh wait, I think you have me confused with someone else -- I didn't make "need help".

It's awesome when people remind you of stuff you made that you don't even remember, IMO.

I totally agree - it's just a little ironic that the one thing I made that somebody likes enough to use, I completely forgot about :lulz:

Ignore the fact that it looks like granny tits on scribd's browser viewer, the downloadable pdf version is fine. Thanks to 000 for the font tip! I couldn't see a way to put in a pope card and keep the logo, so I just put in a "Collect your official Pope card today! principiadiscordia.com" in the tiny text.
(http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af205/spiff_bucket/comeDimo.jpg) (http://www.scribd.com/doc/25490134/comeDimo)
And the logo you liked, again in pdf.

Use however you want. Give me a shout (pm/email) if you need it resized or at a different DPI - I picked 300. Or if you'd like any changes made.
Thanks, FP. Any one else have anything? I haven't got the schedule yet, but I know it's getting down to the wire for the first issue.
dimo, im writing a little essay that speaks of one of the origins of our current society of fear/paranoia (based on a fragment of Francoise Dolto i recently read), since thats a common theme i get from your posters.
Id appreciate a critique of this, to see in which ways it can be bettered
Nurtured Fear
Dolto postulates that in medieval times, children ran around the village freely, but since the industrial revolution, there has been an ever increasing living under the conditions of cloisterment. Not that we have much choice about it, since in the cities, a wandering child is exposed to a multitude of strangers that may or may not have bad intentions.1
The modern child lives in constant abstraction from experience: he doesnt walk as a means of transportation, he gets transported from one cloister to another; it also seems to be a common feature in parenting to enunciate prohibitions "in the name of your own safety", that, without an explanation, become an imperative that must be tested through experience. Test the imperative, and you shall be hurt or die.
So, if we dont "test" we wont be hurt; we sacrifice so many things in the name of security, which can range from liberty, possibilities, imagination or even desire itself (why not our civil rights while were at it!).
In an era where security is our top priority, there is so much potential wasted; security is stagnation, didnt "someone important" mention a certain metaphor about the comparison between standing still and walking? If you stand still in a fixated spot, you get a false sense of security that sooner or later will be dispelled, of course, if you walk theres the possibility that you might trip or fall into a ditch; there is both danger in stagnation and in dynamism, for that is the human condition.
Do you find it strange that we have an upcoming generation of thrill seekers, addicts, criminals and video gamers? It is so, because in their sad, security oriented lives, they need to instill risks in controlled situations and environments. Do you also find it strange how civil liberties are given away as freebies to anyone that gives a half assed terror discourse?
Thank yourself, your parents and the education you received, for making you a pussy that would sacrifice anything because of fear, for some fleeting sense of security. And never forget, that the next pandemic is right around the corner, and that there's terrorists among us! Cheers!

It reminded me of Fight Club. I dunno, you could try playing that up and then morphing it into a "hahaha I'm totally going to use your stupid fears against you to make you do stupid shit for my own amusement and profit". But better wroten, natch.

Goin' italics style on it is a good idea, although the bibliographical reference would have to be dropped... probably would make it more interesting for the common person do...
I need to concentrate and invoke my alter ego.

I love it.
Nyx, it's awesome. I'd take it as is (though, I'd format it like a letter). The last paragraph is priceless.
And, to anyone who wants to participate, harsh language (ie swearing) is almost encouraged. Apparently the actual writing staff is a bunch of coward sissies that wouldn't take a stand on anything, let alone dare to use offensive language. My pal, the editor, is sick of it, so feel free to cuss it up!

Cheers - when I made it the idea was to make a bunch of completely different logos such that there would be no single "official" logo. Since I'm a lazy fucker though, that plan kinda stalled. But I think it would be rather neat to have a bunch to choose from.
Im gonna rework it, and maybe add a bit about frivolous lawsuits regarding injuries.
Dear Francoise D.,
I found it very interesting, that children in medieval times ran around the village freely, unlike nowadays, in which they (and previously us) live in cloisterment. Not that we have much choice about it, since in the cities, a wandering child is exposed to a multitude of strangers that may or may not have bad intentions.
Now our children live detached from experience: they don't walk to school experiencing the climate, or by chance find their friends along the way; the high technology that surrounds us, and a bunch of lazy parents, makes for a lot of prohibitions "in the name of your own safety".
-Hey kid, don't touch that electrical radiator, more so, don't spill water on top of it!
-But why daddy?
-Because I said so, now stop bothering me with questions.
Aren't children so annoying with their questions? Why is the sky blue? Why does that dog growl? Why is summer hot? Why is candy sweet? Because that's the way it is, now shut up and leave me alone.
But children are naturally curious; it's a part of their development as thinking persons. And by cracky! They want and will test why and how things work, if they aren't given a proper explanation. And so they either touch the radiator and get burned or pour water on it and end up dead.
Yes kid, test the imperative and I will show you suffering. .
So, when those kids grow up, what do you get? You get a society that thinks (knows!) that rules are in place for their own safety and good; sacrificing liberty, possibilities, imagination and desire itself (why not civil rights while we're at it!) for a fleeting sense of security.
Francoise, please do tell me, do you find it strange that we have an upcoming generation of thrill seekers, addicts, criminals and video gamers? It is so, because in their sad, security oriented lives, they need to instill risks in controlled situations and environments. Do you also find it strange how civil liberties are given away as freebies to anyone that gives a half-baked terror discourse?
We are surrounded by momma's boys that would sacrifice anything because of fear! They really believe that terrorists live among us! And that the next pandemic is right around the corner! Please dear Francoise, I beg you tell me, what can we do?
Desperately needing an answer,
-The XXI century
:mittens:
This is really good! Now I'm not sure what to use first, this or Cains Rules for Life!
I still haven't received the schedule. I'mma get on him about getting this done, it will be sheer awesomeness.
Thank you dimo.
Depending how long it can be and how far away is the deadline i can keep reworking it.

Well, as of now, I'm thinking of using this first. It relates to the propaganda well and I think it's a great opening remark. If you still feel like reworking it, go ahead, and I'll just snag the latest draft come the time for publication.
