Why start a new religion when we can just absorb him into this one?

i like the idea of a pantheon but i guess that could work. i just feel like discordianism has gotten a bit stale and needs something new.

Sorry we aren't interesting enough for you.

i think discordianism is extremely interesting... i also think that it needs another element. i was thinking of something along the lines of esoteric discordianism. you know like rosacrucians or the gnostics are to x tianity? another aspect.

Sure.  I think we should split the weirdo faction until we're all in our own personal religion, and completely incapable of accomplishing anything fun.

Also, and take this for what it's worth, showing up asking for people to join a religion is one thing, but then asking them to write your holy book is another.  I mean, would you really trust any of US to generate the texts for a god of sarcasm?

Really?

Because I can do so, at very reasonable rates.  I am, after all, a Holy Man™.  Do not question it.

why because theres like 50 of em and no father?

And because they're complete shits.  I mean, come on...Eris caused the first dark age because she didn't get invited to a party.  Did she go after the guilty party?  No, she punished uninvolved people who couldn't punish her back.

Come to think of it, the whole Greek Pantheon is composed of shitheads.  When Zeus raped some random shepherdess, did Hera punish him?  No, she destroyed the victim.

What an utterly corrupt and depraved culture, to have dreamed up Gods such as those.  Worse than the Abramaic religions, if you ask me.

haha! nice... its true. but i guess it was a way of rationalizing the bad things in life... blame it on some twisted diety that suffers no repercussions.

Sure they do.  We stopped worshipping them, and they all starved to death.  We just prop up Eris' decomposing carcass as a generic excuse for being asshats.

Quote from: WikipediaMomus or Momos (μῶμος) was in Greek mythology the god of satire, mockery, censure, writers, poets; a spirit of evil-spirited blame and unfair criticism.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for modern re-interpretation (read: take part of the idea and run with it off a cliff). The historical interpretation (if Wikipedia is to be believed) makes him sound more like the patron deity of Glenn Beck.

Yup. Hang around Discordians long enough and you will hear as more claims of worship than you can shake a stick at. Many of them will be blatant lies, however, and about as many will be half-truths.

All the time.  However, most tend to either move into agnosticism or leave.  Not all, though.

For example, Cainad is a raging Mennonite who beats the shit out of anyone he catches with anything more complicated than a belt loop on their person.  He posts using a Commodore Vic 20, strictly for the purpose of evangelizing.  Even then he has to do a penance that involves a hair shirt and one of those poison lizards they have in New Mexico.

It's a hard life. Do you have any idea what they made me do in penance for setting up the website (http://www.mennoniteusa.org/)? To this very day I am still picking out shards of I-don't-know-what that my skin pushes out every once in a while, and we had to install an industrial ventilator in the bathroom. Which I had to do yet more penance for.

You're probably right. I'm gonna be getting myself a cassock sooner or later; hopefully having the proper uniform while I do my dirty work will put a little bit of the Fear into them. That, or some woad and the kilt. Nothing more terrifying than a 145 lbs scarecrow shrieking at you in a man-skirt.

I may be making some sacrifices in the near future; I expect a good downpour (maybe a little thunder and lightning too) to go with my sermons.

I thought that was given.  Any religion that steals rituals from Freemasons, at a time when anti-Freemason hysteria is at an all time high has got to be one audacious motherfucker.

And wasn't Thornley (or was it Hill) a Mormon as well?  The prosecution rests its case.

Poor Eris did not cause the Trojan war. That is a lie set up by the selfish and egotistical goddesses that DID start the war.

Eris was simply dropping off a gift to the happy couple. She wasn't invited so she just dropped it off with the name on the gift tag. Everyone knows that the Bride is ALWAYS 'the prettiest one' at any wedding. It was those bitch goddesses Athena, Aphrodite and Hera that screwed those poor saps.

I don't worship Eris, why should I worship this Momus guy?

Come to think of it, Eris and her siblings really ARE the trailer trash of the Greek pantheon, aren't they?

why because theres like 50 of em and no father?

And because they're complete shits.  I mean, come on...Eris caused the first dark age because she didn't get invited to a party.  Did she go after the guilty party?  No, she punished uninvolved people who couldn't punish her back.

Come to think of it, the whole Greek Pantheon is composed of shitheads.  When Zeus raped some random shepherdess, did Hera punish him?  No, she destroyed the victim.

What an utterly corrupt and depraved culture, to have dreamed up Gods such as those.  Worse than the Abramaic religions, if you ask me.

And Eris didn't see the results coming?

Of course not, she was entirely innocent of these terrible and fraudulent charges. The entire thing was nothing more than an orchestrated character assassination.

A good Discordian never starts the fire, sure we night gather up some wood and kindling, find a can of gasoline and leave it in the "Somking' area outside of the building... but we would never start the fire.

Hrmmm, I'm starting to like this Momus guy. Maybe we need a Momus emoticon.

Greek Gods are traditionally considered to be gifted with foresight far greater than that of mortals.

So Hera, Aphrodite and (hell, especially, wisdom and all that) Athena knew exactly what they were causing.  The apple was more important to them.

Like I said, the Greek Gods were a collection of shitstains.

Yep, just like all those other Gods. Shitstains one and all... Though what do you expect from a bunch of people that were eaten by their dad as children? That's like child molestation on a whole new level... its no wonder they were fucked up.

"Daddy touched me in a bad place."
"Where, with what?"
"Everywhere, with his stomach lining!"

Thats what I love about the Greek Gods though.  They are the perfect representations of what would happen if the average person in the street was given the power of a God and immortality.  Zeus fucks anything that moves and throws his enemies in a prison beneath the earth, Hermes steals not only everything not nailed down, but also the nails of things that are nailed down, Hera is the archetypal Queen Bee, Dionysus is the god of stoners and ravers and Apollo is totally the aloof jerkass artist-genius.

You get that with people without powers, possibly even worse
