http://abcnews.go.com/US/girls-12-14-suspected-ohio-bank-robbery/story?id=9502425
QuotePolice in Ohio are searching for two brazen girls, believed to be as young as 12 and 14, who robbed a bank in a Cincinnati suburb and escaped a police dragnet that included a helicopter and dogs.
The baby faced bank robbers, one believed to be 12 years old and the other 14 or 15, entered the 1st National Bank in Symmes Township, "walked up to the bank teller, and gave the teller a note demanding money," Steve Barnett, spokesman for the Hamilton County Sherriff's Office, said in a statement.
Neither of the girls carried a weapon, but "the teller gave the suspects an undetermined amount of U.S. currency," according to Barnett.
The bank was robbed at 3:19 p.m. There was one teller, but no customers in the bank at time. No one was injured.
The girls were last seen fleeing in a easterly direction from the bank.
I don't know what the funniest thing about this all is- That 2 GIRLS robbed a bank with nothing but a note, or the fact the police have not been able to catch them.
Let's canonize these bitches.
OH MY GOD!
Hahahaha how the hell ... I want to be robbed by a 10 year old :(
I dunno, what with the nationalization of banks and everything (dunno if that one's included) the concept of money being simply provided on demand does seem rather appealing.
This isnt that uncommon.
I was present for a gas station robbery where the guy passed a note to the teller.
OF course, that guy was probably armed.
Also he was standing directly behind me the whole time, which made things really awkward.
I was lucky, because I had set my beer on the counter along with my money right before the robbery commenced, but they wouldnt allow any transactions after the robber left so my friend was SOL and couldnt purchase alchohol for himself.
Then I went to a Halloween party.
Maybe they're just mutes and were asking for a withdrawal in the only way they could.

But sure, canonize these girls. It's the least you can do, considering they'll probably spend the best years of their life in prison.

Hey, let's not get out of hand. A fair number of robberies go unsolved. And kids that age are harder to pick out in a lineup. I give them fair odds at scot free, if they play it cool and launder the money properly.

Because if they DO get away with this one, Kruger/Dunning gets its way, and they'll do it again.
...Hmm. Shame.
I would hate to think that my daughter would be so bored or so desperate for money that she felt the need to rob a bank. Be that as it may, if they are lucky these girls will be tried as juveniles, however, as this is a felony automatically because they robbed a bank, I can see where they will try (and most likely succeed) in trying these girls as adults.
While I can see the humor in the whole thing, I just can't laugh about it. If it were my child it would break my heart.

You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, and you can't make a Discordian Saint™ without breaking children. Or so I am told.
Also, it's all for the best. Regret tells me this will be a positive experience for the little bastards, as they will have many educational experiences as they get their heads kicked in for their desert every day in the mess hall.

It might be somewhat of a Dutch thing, not quite sarcasm, just facetiousness. I learned not to do it too often on this board, because it would get misinterpreted too often.
And I met Regret IRL, he didn't really strike me as the person who would truly believe getting raped in prison is a good form of education :)

Well, I for one can't tell anymore in this POST-SINCERE WORLD. :x
facetious
1. Treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor; flippant.
flippant
1. Lacking respect or seriousness, showing levity; pert.
No seriously, this is just a Dutch thing?
Or is it just something that requires conflicting body language to be acceptable and is thus unsuited for text only communication?
i'm not sure! all I know is that I have gotten in trouble for defending people who I thought were being facetious but then turned out to be shitheads after all. this was long ago and I learned to trust Roger's judgement in these cases the hard way :-)
i have posted on other international boards, but here I noticed for the first time. so it could also be a european thing. or a non-american thing. or also very likely, that Discordians are generally less likely to ignore it and will speak up about it, when other people do ignore it because it doesn't make sense to them, or if it did they'd rather not have any strife about it. you know how that goes.
the few other Dutch I have seen come and go on this forum most probably were shitheads*--a shame really--so I don't have a lot of data to go about.
* Morn for sure, Agrippa maybe not could go either way but he's as good as gone, so I dunno.

I was wondering what this "Kruger/Dunning" thing was you mentioned (It's Dunning–Kruger on wiki btw), learn something new every day, and yes, I can see what you mean about that happening to those two girls.
Still, you never know, they might just realize they just barely got away with something incredibly stupid and learn fast.
I am interested to know though what would have motivated them to do it in the first place...
Drug money? Is one of them sick and needs an operation? Did tehy do it on a dare? Did their parents force them?
This is quite an unusual case, and if they ever get caught, there might be quite an unusual story behind it that, if painted right, might see them get off with minimal punishment.

I think it's a cultural thing, at least now that I've been away from the UK for a while, talking with people from the UK I've been in situations where I've been taken aback twice - first a recoil in horror at the facetious statement deadpanned, and then again when I realise that I would have just rolled with it as a normal thing a few years ago. It's weird noticing that you've been un-desensitised like that.
At first it pissed me off that being in such an annoyingly politically correct culture had such a dramatic shift in my sense of humour, but lately being facetious just seems like a slightly more sophisticated form of tourettes syndrome.

interacting a lot with the people on this forum, I had a similar experience. I wouldnt discredit it as a slightly more sophisticated form of tourettes, though. it's just different and goes both ways. i'm for example sometimes taken aback by the sheer amount of "fucking" one can insert into a sentence without appearing entirely whitehot and irrational with anger. if someone were to write a Dutch sentence with a same amount of swearing in it, people would in most probability tell the person to calm down first, before even considering what they actually tried to say. I personally often experience this when people start with "goddamnit" or [to a lesser extent] "jesus", as most people I meet are not christian, this is a tell-tale sign that they're not really paying much attention anymore to the words coming out of their mouths.
it is useful though. because by paying attention to this thing, also IRL I can now better judge whether someone is making a [sometimes tasteless] facetious racist / pedo / nigger / rape joke, or whether behind the veil of humour is actually hiding something much more ugly than that. though it usually isn't and people are often honestly surprised when you question their motivations behind what they thought of nothing more than a random remark.
additionally, in Dutch you have one more angle on this. we like to curse with diseases. most of them are "old" diseases such as TBC or Cholera or the black plague. Except for Cancer. Which means sometimes you hit a sensitive spot if you use that curse near someone who recently lost a loved one to cancer. Which is why I'm a bit more hesitant to use that disease as a curse.
This entire experience made me think of a motto my friends and i yell out when we are in a certain mood.
Anale sex (pause) met dooie dieren!
that's anal sex wih dead animals.
its mostly poking fun at those who decide to limit their verbal and mental range by outlawing certain thoughts/words/word combinations.
oh and about cursing with cancer, the dutch word for cancer is also a verb for bitching.
ik kanker i bitch
hij kankert he bitches
wij kankeren we be bitchin'
so basically
kankerdekanker kankerende kankerzooi!
should be translated as
bitch bitch curse hurk puke cursed stuff!

Well you need to do some math here, is the improved education in prison worth the extra cost?
prison cost:
$22,650 per prisoner per year
school cost:
$9866 per student per year
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incarceration_in_the_United_States
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/National_average_cost_per_student_in_public_school
I can't decide this for you, it's American prisons and American children.
I am sure you have more information about those.
