We're in the process at work of implementing my cunning plan to add moar gourmet sammiches, starting with epic grilled cheeses. I'll elaborate more when I get home but I had to share the one I just had:
Pastrami, swiss, grilled onions, marinated mushrooms and Dijon mustard on sliced Italian...I had to save half for later, it's just too awesome.
brie with pear and strawberry
mmm. try it.

Mmm...brie. They want to do ham with brie and Dijon.
Another one we experimented with was Swiss, portabello mushrooms, grilled onion and tarragon mayo. It was fucking AWESOME.
Hm. Havarti, grilled tomato, bacon, Dijon?

We have our current house grilled cheese which is American, bacon, tomato, sliced avocado and Dijon.
My crazy owner loves apples and came up with one that involved BOTH Swiss and gruyere, green apples, onions, and something else. We were like, "whaaaaat?"
Havarti, artichoke hearts, and prosciutto on fresh focaccia with rosemary mayonnaise.
It is divine.

OH. MY. GOD.
I LOVE artichoke hearts!
They are the rapturous Truth of the food god.

If you do a ham and brie, try apple on it. mmmm.
i'd serve it with a warm carrot, rum, raisin type salad
Pastrami, Russian dressing, saurkraut, swiss, on rye.
.......What?
:lulz:
:lulz:
Also, sundried tomato, provolone, artichoke hearts and pepperocinis.
Ooh, just thought of another one:
mozzarella, pesto and sundried tomato
ooh and asiago, sliced grilled steak and dijon
Derby cheese, smoked turkey, roasted red peppers with herb mayo.

NOT GRILLED CHEESE. :argh!:
Also, I hate sauerkraut, so I don't like reubens.

We're going to do one with fresh mozzarella, tomato, roasted red peppers and pesto.
The steak one sounds great.
Proscuttio, mozarella, peppercini, on italian bread grilled with olive oil, maybe? Sort of like a stuffed pepper grilled cheese?

I think we're calling that one the Providence Cheese Steak.

Much better than the Portuguese Breakfast Burrito.

...But maybe we should do a Portuguese grilled cheese. You know, as to not offend East Providence. And for North Providence, they just get served a big greasy capicola.
Woot. Proscuttio deserves to be in one of these. It is a superior meat for both consumption and engineering. (No shit, you can use it as the expendable end of a thermal lance.
Spam should be on the budget menu, also.
goat cheese, blueberry jam, thin slices of apple and some spinach leaves (just for having something green to put it on).
also works with brie.
or, goat brie for that matter.

Tasty ideas ITT! I just thought it would make a great restaurant idea, although one google later and it has already been done. I'm not too upset as there's one within walking distance that I now need to check out: http://www.martiniboys.com/Toronto/The-Grilled-Cheese-review.html
Also, we're accepting submissions. If you win, you get one on the menu named after you.

does it work with blueberry jam? I have blueberry jam.
also probably helps if you beat a splash of milk into the egg, right?
... goddamn I should do this with brie. I will get some at the supermarket later today!
Actually I wanted to use some baby lettuce, just for the green crunch and to lessen the sweetness of jam and apple. But spinach leaves are just a lot cheaper and really if you don't cook them yuo don't taste the difference.
In fact, if you do cook them, you also don't really taste much difference, but you don't often cook lettuce.

beat some eggs.
spash a bit of milk in there. <---- fix
make a cheese and strawberry jam sandwich.
cut the crusts off.
dip it in the egg.
fry for the win.
FOR. THE. WIN.
alternativley works great with peanutbutter. If you make one with peanutbutter, bannana jam & cheese, you can call it an Elvis Killer. Although, if you eat more than 3/4 of one, YOU WILL DIE.
Even better: add some of Roger's DEATH COFFEE to drink it down with.

I made this, with regular aged Gouda cheese and blueberry jam.
Is it normal that the jam sort of explodes out of the sandwich somewhere halfway the process?
Also I gotta try it again because I think I had some garlic on the cutting board or knife. Usually I don't mind but with sweet things the combo was a bit odd.
yes.
i'm in doubt.
i will make another one today.
but I'm kind of leaning towards skipping the jam, then adding extra garlic (!!!), and whisking some thai green curry paste through the egg/milk.
A PLAN?!!!
it was okay.
not mindblowing, but pretty good.

I like the idea of thai green curry paste a whole lot, actually.
Nope. Mine will have to be eggless - but it will be even better that way.
I'll just use one of these homemade egg substitutes, instead.
# 2 tbsp cornstarch = 1 egg
# 2 tbsp arrowroot flour = 1 egg
# 2 tbsp potato starch = 1 egg
# 1 heaping tbsp soy powder + 2 tbsp water = 1 egg
# 1 tbsp soy milk powder + 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water = 1 egg.
# 1 banana = 1 egg in cakes.
Really? Banana = egg in cakes? :fap:
Yeah, and it tastes pretty good, too.
I don't mind baking with eggs, tho.....just as long as I don't have to taste the nasty things.
