It makes me sad how many parents become way too freaky about stuff that's in books, it's not like you can keep your child from finding things out, unless you lock them in the basement for the rest of their lives til they hit 40 or 50.

I read Anne Frank in elementary school, when we were doing some sort of placement thingy. It was only an excerpt, and I wanted to read more (and then promptly forgot about it, being all of 7 years old). But we never read it in my highschool.

No see, that's not about concentration camps or fighting the Japanese, therefore it didn't happen according to all but one of my teachers.
We never read any diaries. The only primary sources we used were government records of the time, German and British.
Then again, for those of us who did A Level History, we spent three damn years studying the Nazis, on and off. I think we got the message that Nazism was bad and not to try it at home by that point, though the message does not seem to have been clearly communicated elsewhere in the country.

Well, copies of primary sources. You could probably make a case for selection bias or whatever, not to mention translation error with some German words (though I knew a lot more German back then), but it was nice to know what Germany thought its industrial output was, or what Alfred Rosenberg really felt about Christianity.

We never really touched on the USSR after 1945. I know there are modules about it which can be done, but our history teacher was uncomfortable with it, since he knew British history much better than Russia.
Strangely enough, we did cover the extension of the vote and the working poor in Britain in the 18th to early 20th century as well, which was pretty interesting, in its own way. I didn't appreciate it enough at the time, but it is useful and fairly relevant (especially right now).

I really am irritated with GS, and quite authentically disgusted with the "injun" and "change your tampon" comments, but naturally I don't actually find anthropologists worse than Hitler. Somehow I thought the over-the-top nature of accusing everyone of being worse than Hitler might had brought a little funny into it, but failed miserably. Also, EOT was a philosophy major. Not that I expect anyone else to know that. And then when GS started maligning my ancestry in a not-funny way I got pissed for real.
But the only thing that actually got me upset was the unexplained accusations by TGRR, who, when I PMed him, still refused to explain, Netaungrot-style. So, someone who was allegedly my friend until sometime this morning when apparently I did something awful that I don't know about, has decided that I'm a lying sack of shit. Totally sweet.

I got called names, un-friended, and shunned for that, too... so you know, fuck it, what's the point in trying? I liked this forum for the creativity, but now it's stifling. Stifled. If you don't contribute to someone's project because you're so busy with your own, you get the big fuck you. I need to spend more time with my IRL friends, some of whom I've been friends with for 20 years. You know how many IRL friends I've had a falling out with and never seen again? One. In my whole fucking life. I've had a few drift in and out of my life, but they're always good to me. Honest, even.
Right now, this forum is BAD for me. Bad for me mentally, creatively, and emotionally. It's so drenched in pessimism and hate that it's bogging me down, immobilizing me. It went through this great burst of creativity a while ago, and since then the same themes have circulated and recirculated, getting darker and more oppressive, an endless circle-jerk of literary recycling. Whose fault is that? Mine. For being here. For letting myself get sucked into a friendship that has turned into endless accusations and drama. Maybe it's always been this way and I didn't notice, or maybe it's all just me, but regardless, it's not good for me, at all, and with the juggernaut of TGRR's hate and all that entails, there's really no way or reason for me to stay here. And maybe I'll change my mind in a day or so, or maybe eventually I'll be able to be here and not have the dreariness, the bitterness, the hate and the gloom and the rage poison me, but right now I'm really just in a place where I can't imagine spending my time reading any more of this doing me any good at all.
Plus, the forum has started to log me out every five minutes or so, and between that and a bunch of other stuff, I can't help but think I'm being fucked with.

I'm dealing with it... just not well. Better than I was a month ago, though. Even though I've been hiding from it by distracting myself with said internet message board. And alcohol... too much alcohol. (Prime place to make an injun joke there, or maybe a nigger joke if you're in the mood.) But I have also been dealing with it by throwing myself into several art and writing projects, which has been amazingly helpful, and spending as much time as possible with my friends.

I'm not some white chick whose grandmother was a quarter Cherokee. I'm mixed-race, so I've also integrated the other things into my sense of identity, but I grew up with my mom (who is mostly white) heavily involved in the local Native community, for my sake, so that I would grow up with that identity. When I was a teenager I mostly hung out on the reservation with this old chick who saw that I was lonely and neglected and took me under her wing for a while.

I can't think of ANYONE I've mentioned that to, so as far as lying, no, I'm not. I've been on tranquilizers in the evening, but I still don't think there have been any times I've so much as had the topic of your ex come up. You must have forgotten the part where you posted a totally pointed rant on the board about horrible un-friends who cast you aside as soon as you're not convenient. As I mentioned to you, yes, I DID pick up on that being directed at me, so there was a full day of stress over that before you apologized on the phone. Which is why I count that in as the first time you flipped out on me.
And then there are the lies. Which I suspected at the time, and even called you on one of them, but for the most part convinced myself I must be mistaken about. I think the reason you have such an obsession/suspicion about being lied to is because you are a chronic liar. What makes it odder than any other combination? Indians leave the reservations these days, you know, and I don't think there were ever any intertribal miscegenation laws. How much ancestral information do you require? My paternal grandma was a Hicks of the Eastern Band, Badger Clan; as an NC Cherokee you must be familiar with the Hicks line. She was half-black, and from a wealthy landowning family. She went to college in Ohio and met my grandfather, an unregistered fullblood Chiricahua born in Jerome, AZ after they met in a jazz club in, I believe, Toledo. Grandpa was a trumpet player in a band.
My maternal grandfather was the son of a Navajo-Paiute girl adopted by a Mormon family in AZ, and a Mormon man of Welsh descent. My maternal grandma was also a Mormon of primarily Welsh descent.
Funny, I know a lot of indians who refer to themselves as mixed-race. True, you're either indian or you're not, but I don't know anyone who thinks you can't be indian at the same time as being mixed-race. My nieces, whose mother is Mexican, got indian scholarships to Willamette. I guess a BIA card isn't as important as the interview where you present your genealogy.
My dad's been on the board of the Urban Indian Association here for pretty much as long as I've been alive. Since I grew up in the city until I was 11, I mostly consider myself a member of the Urban indian tribe.
But it's a lot funnier and easier to refer to myself as black online, since people understand that, and I don't get obnoxious comments like "hey Pocahontas" or "drunk injun", or challenged to prove that I'm a Really Real Native American Indian.

They were doing something really funky with apportioning acreage in that area in the '80's. She was on Squaxin land, but she was Hopi; her deceased husband had been Squaxin. I don't have any tribal affiliation whatsoever with the Squaxin, although generally speaking people there were really nice to me.

He's made stiff accusations today to justify his behavior with GS, and I disproved his accusation about EOT being my alt, asked him what lie I told him, what personal information I divulged, and who I divulged it to... and he refuses to answer. Why? Because IT DIDN'T HAPPEN outside of his paranoid imagination. He made up something in his head that was a good excuse to collude with GS to try to push me into an all-out battle, started attacking me again (not like that should be a surprise after his rampage last week about how I am "punishing the board for the sins of Mario"), is telling the whole board that I'm a liar and EOT is my alt, and,

refuses to explain what lies or other crimes against him I've committed. Because there aren't any. HE MADE THEM UP. And he's lying to you, and who knows how many other people.
My "extreme paranoia" is, I am assuming, from the birth of the cone collective, the last time he flipped out on me. I have a completely irrational phobia of being watched, and I've picked up that he has a tendency of keeping an eye on accounts he's interested in, to see when they log in, what they read, etc. That's why the cone collective was created, so that he could have no idea, after his last freakout on me, when it was me logged in and when it was someone else.
I don't like being watched, and, considering his reaction to a PM I didn't respond to (he had to have known I'd read it, for the reaction to make sense) I freaked out and asked a bunch of my friends to muddy the waters on my behalf. Remember last year when I kept changing my handle? It was because someone was checking in on the board and I didn't want them to be able to keep track of me. Same "extreme paranoia".
And then we talked, and he assured me that he was not keeping tabs on me, started that thread day before yesterday advocating compassion and patience with whatever I was dealing with, and everything was fine. Until something set him off again. Which he won't explain because whatever it is DOESN'T EXIST.
I think that he's a liar, a paranoid, and that accusing people of lies and betrayal are how he keeps people from comparing notes and finding out what lies he's telling about them behind their backs... as he is clearly doing with me right now.
