I love those old brick buildings though. We only have a couple left in my city and they keep knocking em all down.
Those are actually chunks of slate and granite used as ballast when the ships were coming over from England. The harbor was full of them so a shit ton of houses along the river were built with them and the wood from boats. (The red brick was added in the mid 1800s) Our building is held up by 250 year old ship masts. It's the 2nd oldest industrial building in the nation after Slater Mill in Pawtucket, RI. It has survived the War of 1812, The Civil War, at least 2 severe hurricanes that flooded the basin and a fire that we know of. Meanwhile the brand new condos down the street are already rotting because of bad drywall. They just don't make them like they used to.

That's actually one of our more haunted spots in the restaurant. We have issues where one of the tables over there likes to become undressed...That is, the tablecloth will slide out from under the paper, the settings, and the candle. This has happened on Waterfire nights in a full dining room. People fucking freak out.

don't build shit like they used to. That Castillo De San Marcos fort thing in St Augustine was built in 1672 out of that coquina crap. I mean for chrissakes that's just wee seashells. And all the newer buildings are molding up and rotting away from the humidity here.

I actually didn't mean anything by posting the pics. There's nothing there and I took them out of sheer boredom. The shadows on the wall are definitely freaky though, because when you're there, you don't seem them as you do in photos, so I never saw the shape of a girl. The rocks look nothing more than rocks when you're in there.
I did, however, see someone walk through that dining room last night before we opened, I thought it was one of the cooks and they all denied it.
A few weeks ago after cleaning up from a large table near midnight I felt someone come up behind me and whisper in my ear. I turned around so fast I fell into the service station and the little Guatemalan dishwasher we have caught me and thought he was the one who scared me.
Now the REALLY freaky stuff happens upstairs. If I get time I'll have to go up there and take a few pictures to see what I may get. Probably nothing though.

Providence is fucking old, even older than New York (Not New Amsterdam, but there's nothing left standing of that or pretty much any of NYC's original buildings anyway). We still have a couple of buildings from the 1600s still standing, and tons of foundations that are still supporting "newer" buildings from the 1700s.
It's where all the non-Puritans that were kicked out of Boston came, and the row of 200 year old diverse churches up and down Main Street are pretty much a giant FUCK YOU to Massachusetts, we also have the oldest Synagogue I believe because Roger Williams allowed Jews when no other colony would, not even Virginia or New York.
The Revolution also started in Providence Colony with the first shot fired on the captain of the HMS Gaspee down in Warwick, but they don't teach you that. Providencians were evil, mean, drunk non-Puritan heathens who weren't allowed credit for anything, of course.
