Title: Intermittens: The 'Meet Space' Edition
Post by: Placid Dingo on February 26, 2010, 10:33:36 AM
This edition will be focused on 'meatspace' or the physical world and will have a focus on the 'get out and do something'/activitist kind of angle. There will be a couple of articles focused on small D discordian activities such as Guerrilla Gardening, Sf0,the post Graffiti movement, PoserGASM (obviously that's a big D) and maybe some other real world stuff (like that Dreaming game... gosh if only we had links to whoever was responsible for that.)

Basically I'm going to do most of the hunting down of appropriate stuff, but  if there's anything in particular you know of, want to make, direct me to or whatever that you know fits in, send a PM or let me know or whatever.

Post 4 and you're doing an Intermittens Issue?

Well.  Welcome abroad.

Also: thinking of doing an issue myself-- Intermittens Vol XXIII.iii: The Ultimate Slack.

(do we have a slack issue? other than the ones not done?)

It's more a case of, I'd like to do an Intermittens issue, thus I've reached post four.

I suggest looking into LarpGASM and ArgGASM. LarpGASM specifically was pretty discordian AND pretty IRL -- and we could use some promotion ;-). Cram would be the man to ask for permission about specific documents related to that, probably.

I love it when people just dive right in around here.  Those people always end up being utterly legendary posters.

Yeah, this would be a great vector to spread buzz about the Dreaming.

I've also got the PDX Sunday Swordfights, and can get you some media from those events. Maybe I'll interview some of the Discordians that made it to Esozone, I think we had over 23 in a room at one point.... counting the reporter from High Times. Last year, Esozone has basically "open-sourced itself" as an Unconference (wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference)), so that might be a good topic for an article.

I'm slammed with school this week, but I'll hit you up in a week or two for more focus.

I am really into the idea of a meat-space edition. I've been looking for good IRL gasms and OMF's lately, and I really dig the idea of putting together a colection of activities and related subjects. Seeing how I'm looking for activities, it pretty much puts me out of the runnings being a contributor to this particular issue, but I can't wait to read it! (ooh, suggestion: maybe do a little section towards the end with some "pull-out" posterGASMS.)

EOT and I are both pretty meaty, I bet we could contribute something.

Somehow.

Maybe just a pic of the bar around the corner where we had drinks with ECH, or a shot of my studio ceiling, insulated courtesy of ECH's meat.

By calling it meet-space rather than meat-space you leave out the whole potential theme of discordians together doing things with meat.

I can think of numerous Discordian meetups which involved 3D meat.

the Providence pork shoulder meet up of 2007 (?)
the Portland Oregon day of discord grilling fiasco

Cram, The Dreaming is also in meatspace, so perhaps you should submit your Elevator Pitch? (if you wrote one)

Any of that would be legendary.

And no. No meat. No. No meat. No.

And yes, I've already begged Cram for some Dreaming bits.

And are all those images and things on Day of Discord good to use? Copyleft or just for IM.

Aaaaaaaaaand are there any known upcoming events for Discordia? or small d discordian events coming up? Cos a little calender might be good.

The Day of Discord photos should totally be Kopyleft (I will double check with Johnny Brainwash, but he's usually down with kopylefting content). Unless you hear different from me you can use the photo and the text.

I'll see what swordfight photos I can dig up.

For the Meet Space edition:

this piece is kopyleft + attribution - feel free to hack it up and use it as needed.

sadly, it does not currently have a title.

From the Chao Te Ching:

Chapter 61
A successful cabal is like a dust cloud,
arriving from nowhere,
ungraspable,
and fading into nothingness.
The tallest blade of grass gets cut,
while the crab grass creeps unharmed.
Keep your head down.
Keep your fucking mouth shut.

Thus by concentrating on goals
without playing ego games,
much can be accomplished.
If all you want to do
is brag about how cool you are,
you might want learn to play the guitar, instead.

Is the Chao your work Cram?

I've seen it done before with one called the Dao De Discordia, but this one seems a bit truer to the source as far as I can tell.

it's part mine, part LMNOs, part belongs to the community.  It's kopyleft though, so it doesn't really belong to anyone.

here's the project page I started over a year ago: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/cramulus/index.php?title=Sacred_Chao_Te_Ching

What's the Dao De Discordia? I'd love to hear more about that.

None of those photos are mine. I assume that because other people gave them to me, they know people are going to rip them off, but who knows. I can ask.

Stay tuned for more- someone finally got Beef's photos from last year, and she took a shitload. We just need to get them off the card.

OK, I've recived the front cover from a freind (an image fo a lady called Mary Toft, or Tofts, very interesting, look her up.)

The theme kind of died a little; now there's more an 'empasis' on the meatspace thing than a theme.

I need to do up a contents page, maybe spit out one more piece of writing and it's done.

Semi tentative release date is 'this weekend, probably Saturday'.

Anything you super uber want jammed in, let me know.

If you need to fill space you can use all of this:

The Parlour - Fools Day

And I may have more photos and the complete script in a day or two.

I epically do NOT need to fill space, but i certainly DO like to stuff things full of stuff so I'll probably hammer that in soon.

HERE IT IT.

Now, those scungy lines on it are because I made it in word and used Bullzip to do it as a PDF, so if you know how to fix that let me know and I'll make a nicer one, and also probably make some comics bigger so the words are clearer.

Ohh and at least Page 2 is NSFW. But that should be it.

I love the contents, particularly the intro letter

I think a lot of it could use two-column layout, would make it look a lot more magaziney
especially - there's one page (XIV) where some word art cuts the page in half, and your eye naturally starts reading it as two columns

in the dreaming ad, the body text is set in some font like impact, which is hard to read

I'm really glad that micropamphleting article's finally in print!

love the layout on the anarchist discussion

dislike the font in the hans christian anderson article

& it could kind of use a back cover

overall, great issue! One of the better ones, I think. Congradulations on your new fame and fortune. Any day now, publishers will start beating down your door with fists full of cash
