Title: ECH Spring Tour 2010
Post by: East Coast Hustle on March 26, 2010, 08:27:11 PM
OK, now that I've pissed off 2/3 of the posters here (but only the 2/3 that deserved it), who wants to have a beer with me next month?

I'll be leaving PDX sometime around april 18th-20th, and arriving in Maine no later than April 29th. Still not sure which route I'm taking, as I may or may not have to pick up one of my cooks from Colorado and give him a ride back to Maine also.

Definite tour stops:

Tri-Cities, WA
Omaha, NE
Pontiac, MI
Portland, ME

Likely tour stops:

SLC area
Denver, CO

Anyone on or near I-84, I-15, I-70, I-80, I-90, or I-95 should let me know if they want to get together for beers and potential mischief. I'll be camping in my truck for the most part, so offering crash space is appreciated but not necessary.

You're welcome as long as you don't talk shit on SLC or I will try as hard as I can to bite your nuts off.

:lulz: Don't you threaten ME with a good time!

srsly, though, IRL I have no problem with SLC. I just know that provincialism is an easy button to push. SLC is a natural stopping point for me since it's about a 12-hour drive from the Tri Cities. I'll put you down for a beer.

I intend to stop somewhere in the general vicinity, in the hopes that I can corral you and a handful of your subjects cohorts into some seedy dive bar with a bad vibe.

because of time constraints and the fact that Metro Detroit is about a day drive from Omaha, I doubt I can stop in Columbus for an evening, but I might be able to stop for an hour or two for lunch and a session. I'll probably have to play that one by ear, but I promise to try, given that I've felt like an ass for not being able to stop the last 2 times I went through.

You mind a 1000 mile detour?

unfortunately, I was just informed that opening weekend is earlier than I thought it would be so I can't afford to make the detour this time but I already have plans for the return trip in october that includes a swing through AZ. ECHGF grew up in Flagstaff and has been bugging me for some time to go that way, I told her that the only way I agree to a stop in Flagstaff is if it's accompanied by a stop in Tucson.

Sweet.  Or I can head up to Flagstaff (it is a much nicer place).

On the other hand, you haven't been to AZ until you've been to the Meatrack.

I haven't been there in 10 years or so, but that was always my impression of the place, and the biggest reason why my impression is favorable.

Unfortunately prostitution is officially illegal now. As well as underage strippers.

It's OK, if I decide I need legal prostitution and underage strippers, I'll only be a 4 hour drive from Quebec.

if there's any chance you'll be in southern NY, I'd love to meet you for a beer/bowl, man! I missed ye on the last pass through. That doesn't seem like it's in line with the route though.

Dunno...the last few times I've taken the southern tier expressway to avoid the thruway, but that still hits I-90 near Albany. I'd be willing to consider a detour, however, if timing permits. I will NOT, under any circumstances, drive into the city, though.

Well, I might try to go through Columbus, but if not I'll still definitely be going through Toledo on the way to Pontiac and Cleveland on the way back.

If you take 80 across PA, you can jump on 287 and cross the Tappan Zee which will take you into Westchester near Cram. Then you can get to 95 and drive right through Providence instead of going up to Albany for 90.

OK, so my Exploder isn't in very good shape, so I'm trying to stick to freeways as much as possible and keep the mileage to a minimum to make sure I actually get to Maine. To that end, the only places I know for sure that I'll be stopping in or very near (assuming I make it that far and don't end up stranded in some eastern Oregon desert hellhole) are the SLC area and Omaha. Columbus and/or Cleveland are still fairly likely. NY and Providence/Boston are looking dicey as that's a significant detour in terms of both time and mileage and wear-and-tear on an already-sketchy vehicle. The good news is that since you guys are less than a day's drive from eastern Maine, I can make a trip anytime this summer if I decide I don't feel confident in my vehicle on the way out.
