I will pick up from that address every other day, and deposit the day I pick it up. Takes about 3 days for cheques to clear, so make allowances.
Right now, I have enough for local distribution (I think) and everyone who has reserved a copy. There's no deadline to order, but it's first come, first served, and although a reprinting won't increase the price, it adds 35 days (!!!) to get the copy to me, then however long it takes to ship to you.
Our next issue is scheduled to release July 1st, though that's a little up in the air due to the fact that there was way more to this than we thought, and the printing takes longer (or costs more, which nobody wants).

I have a set of Faber Castell PITT Black...or rather I should. I will be finding out momentarily when I go to ink a pencil that needs to be finished tonight. I do pretty well with those. The 4pk comes with all the sizes I typically use. The Copic Manga set I had was absolute crap for the price. Copic colors I do not have since I cannot afford them at $3-5 a marker.

but just as a heads up, Lulu.com prints and ships B&W comic books pretty cheap. A 32 page book (which is the minimum) costs $5.14, before shipping. It's 2 cents per page past that.

I think we got under that, not 100% sure. We're at 56 pages, but we might have to cut a couple of the rants, to 52 pages.

Question: When they say the number of pages = 52 (max), is that 52 sheets or 52 page sides? Having a bit of trouble here.
That SHOULD be double-sided, but best to contact support if you aren't sure. I've only worked with Ka-Blam for poster prints.

Do not use "Broken Town Tucson" because that got moved to issue #2, because they max out at 52 pages (unless we pay paperback prices, and that AIN'T HAPPENING), and we had 56. So, only 48 pages to go in the NEXT issue, right?
Live and learn. We're only putting 2 pages of unillustrated text in the next one, and only that if the chapter breaks wind up on even numbered pages...This shit is WAY more complicated than it looks, but we've learned enough of the pitfalls that we can make this shit happen on a regular basis. The only question is whether printing times will require that the issues are 1 per quarter, or whether we can poop out 1 per 2 months (doubtful).
Anyway, I budgeted about 10 copies for you to pimp out (as we discussed today), but again, I cannot ship them til the first postal day after the 1st or Charlie (our distributor) will send his goons around to beat up my fucking dogs.
We're also moving the preorder date up, to "as soon as I get order payment confirmation" (in about 48 hours), and the price is final: $7.50/issue. Shipping costs by method to follow in the next day or two.

At Boston Comic Con yesterday I got a lot of positive feedback and good directions for the process. Everyone also said avoid Ka-Blam like the plague for convention season...but for now we should be fine. And not a single publisher or distributor, including members of the Comic Artists Guild, winced at the idea of the book either. They were all very interested and said that if we needed more help they could find some. I may be able to get us a deal under the Free Lunch Comics label.
A table at New York Comic Con is JURIED. This means that if we want in, we have to submit artwork and a letter of intent BEFORE MAY 1ST even though the con isn't until October. It also costs A LOT of money, unfortunately. We're looking $300-$400 for a table for the weekend with no guarantee we'll break even. Granite State Comic Con is $40 for the day (it's a one day show) in Manchester, NH. It's also on May 23rd. :fnord:
There are other smaller conventions in and around Boston throughout the year, including a Wizard-sponsored one. I'll get more details if you're interested.
I also just picked up Manga Studio. This is more for me than MSY, but I can still use it to work on the layout of the comic and get it ready for pre-press.

Also, I think that the table gives us 1 badge for 4ft and 2 badges for a full table. After that, if you're a professional you get in for free. There are other smaller conventions in and around Boston throughout the year, including a Wizard-sponsored one. I'll get more details if you're interested.
I also just picked up Manga Studio. This is more for me than MSY, but I can still use it to work on the layout of the comic and get it ready for pre-press.

There's no deadline to order, but it's first come, first served, and although a reprinting won't increase the price, it adds 35 days (!!!) to get the copy to me, then however long it takes to ship to you.
Our next issue is scheduled to release July 1st, though that's a little up in the air due to the fact that there was way more to this than we thought, and the printing takes longer (or costs more, which nobody wants).

Actually, the art deserves a second mention, most comic art, especially for new projects takes a while to find its own comfortable style. This was perfect from the get go, perfectly matched the tone of the content.

The current mode of studying poetry in schools ruins it. Instead of tearing it down piece by piece and trying to drain meaning from it like squeezing blood from a long dead squirrel corpse, poetry should be read in complete (large amounts of it) to get a feeling for it, and then discussed but not dissected.

Shakespeare's "comedies" are horrible. Romeo and Juliet had it's moments, as did Hamlet and MacBeth. Julius Caesar was fucking BRILLIANT, as was Richard III and Henry V. Othello exists solely for people to misquote, and The Taming of the Shrew was a snooze.
Strange thing is I hated reading Othello and Titus Andronicus, but for some reason those are my favorite two to go watch a production of.

No way Dok, there are parts of the comedies that are truly hilarious. You know, once you learn how they were intended to be truly hilarious a couple centuries ago. Then you can laugh when you're told you're supposed to laugh, and "getting it" means you're way better than the uncultured fucks who don't understand that humor has remained exactly the same, which is why Billy Madison is still funny.
Those are the same fucks who ruined my first viewing of There Will Be Blood (one of the best movies of the last decade) by laughing. They then got the rest of the theater laughing because everyone was so afraid they were missing a joke and looking stupid. It's hard to get into a scene with an oil explosion when people are laughing like it's slapstick.
Yeah I've got a chip on my shoulder about that one. Anyway Shakespeare is cool.

Okay, on days when I DON'T have to work, it appears if I sit and put my mind to it hardcore, I can do a whole chapter, pencil and ink. Finishing takes varied time. Essentially I need a couple days off to where I can sit and finish this thing up effectively, so I need to piss off my boss more and request more days off.

Okay, on days when I DON'T have to work, it appears if I sit and put my mind to it hardcore, I can do a whole chapter, pencil and ink. Finishing takes varied time. Essentially I need a couple days off to where I can sit and finish this thing up effectively, so I need to piss off my boss more and request more days off.
I'm the same, if I am even working four hours in the evening its enough to screw up my day.

Naw, the first summons, which I answered, was a certified letter in which he referenced no court document numbers (he isn't required to). He announced the lawsuit, but that in itself isn't a crime, even if done falsely.
The sheer stupidity of that man blows my mind.
He may have intended that letter to be an attempt at mediation, but I highly doubt it, as he made several errors which indicate he's never read the guidelines.

I should have had it done by now, but I'm redrawing some 20 odd pages that weren't scanned yet thanks to a window leak thanks to the last tropical warning shot. Serves me right for not closing the plastic bin all the boards are in.
I am, however, bringing issue 1 with me to NY Comic Con this weekend and I intend to talk to as many small press labels and printers as I can about more options, and then next week it's balls to the wall.
I don't think I'll be able to do Issue 3, just because again, the time issues. However, this is definitely one for the ol' resume. :mrgreen:
