Therefore all you Boston fans can go to Hell.
fucking baseball....
i work right next to the TX Rangers stadium, and their games fuck everything up.
fucking baseball....
Mariners are gonna win the AL West this year.
Also, if tampa's GM were any good at his job, he'd have found a way to move them to the NL East by now, where they would run away with the division every year.
They can't go NL East because the Marlins are in the market for Florida.
Now...If Miami were to say, blow off the map, however...
You don't think an intrastate/intradivision rivalry would sell more tickets, create more interest, and make at least 2 teams in the NL relevant?
It would, but MLB says NO.
My dad cried the day they were announced to be in the AL East, you know. He whimpered like a little girl. But even anyone who finishes in 3rd place in the Black and Blue Division still has better stats than the entire NL. They just have to suffer with the pussy DH rules.
FACT: If tampa was allowed to play as the NL wild card in the postseason even though they play in the AL (provided they have the regular-season record to qualify) they would probably make the world series at least every other year.
And, of course, they'd still lose to the Sox or the Yankees.
I would totally be in favor or cutting the regular season back to 154 games and having two wild-card teams in each league who would have to play a 3-game series against each other for the right to play the top-seeded division winner in their league.

No. They beat the Sox. Every. Fucking. Time. They've been Red Sox killers since 1998, they just couldn't win anything else.

meaningless regular season game != 7 game playoff series.
no way TB's rotation holds up against Boston's in a 7 game series.
Regular season games are only meaningless until the All Star Break.
The only thing that Boston has going for them is experience from the older players. They have some newbs in their lineup this year and I think they're going to suffer for it, whereas Tampa isn't all newbs anymore, but I'm forever worried about their pitching.
Boston has alot of age issues in the field, but their rotation appears to be one of the top 4 or 5 in MLB, barring any catastrophic injury. Beckett is an ace on most teams, and he's only the 2nd or 3rd best starter on the team. Lester is listed as 9-1 to win the AL Cy Young this year (Hernandez, Sabbathia, and Greinke are the only AL pitchers with better vegas odds IIRC) and Buchholtz is probably the best 3rd starter in the AL. Mind you, I'm no Sox fan, and they definitely have some middle-relief issues, but their starting rotation would cause me some serious indigestion and lost sleep if I were the opposing manager in a 7 game series.
Unless I were, say, Don Wakamatsu and had Hernandez and Lee starting 4 of those 7 games.
Yeah, but can you win games with pitching alone?

No. Very no.
Agreed.

(Still going to a game in June, though).
Pitching, defense, and OBP. Especially in Safeco, where home runs go to die. Mariners are gonna win alot of 3-2 games this year, and having Ichiro and Figgins at the top of the order to get on base and run doesn't hurt our cause at all. I'm more afraid of what happens when we have to play a 7 game series and 4 of them are in either Fenway or Yankee, where teams built around power and OPS have a big advantage.

How much is that soaking you for?
My mom made my dad only get half a season this year for the Rays, despite that my sister was gonna go halves on it. He's pissed. She wasn't home for half the season last year, but apparently she got sick of baseball way too fast when she was. Which is odd, because once upon a time we had season tickets to the Lightning for hockey and even the Mets way back when in the ol' Long Island days.

Fenway is a hard outfield to play.
Got tix through Mrs LMNO's friend at work. About $100 or so.

Agreed, though having the 2 best defensive outfielders in baseball makes that less of a concern. But our top two starters are both power pitchers who will give up home runs in smaller parks like Fenway, and even Franklin Guttierez can't catch a 480-foot bomb. I expect there to be a statistically significant difference between the Mariners' home and away record this season.

This, dammit! Time to wander back to my New York roots ... that's right, it's back to the Mets for me! The Yankees can always suck it, and since the Sox are now also the Yankees (albeit with different unis, but the same "we've got more $$$ than any other team so we'll take your best players kthx!" philosophy) I just can't take it. I love hopeless underdogs, and the Mets certainly deliver!
Plus, they're ALREADY suffering weird, abnormal injuries (thyroid issues? yeah ...) and that was before opening day. Gonna be a fun year!
  :argh!: :lulz:
Wow. Baltimore wasted NO time this year. Fuck. That wasn't even a swan dive to the bottom, they didn't even get off the ground.

The Astros did the exact same thing. Like usual, the Cubs will pretend like they don't suck until September then collapse spectacularly. You can set your calendar by it.
It appears that another baseball tradition is that David Ortiz will suck like a tranny hooker at Jacques' for the first third of the season.
Yup. Clockwork.
Ohai, look who's 2.5 up on the Sox coming into Boston tonight. 8)
Don't really care.

You'll just be encouraging them. Those douches get off on that sort of shit.
Also, Mariners have won 4 in a row and are starting to look like they're for real, and Cliff Lee isn't even back yet. I have a feeling I'll be buying some playoff tickets when I get back in October.
2 down. 1 to go!
Wow. If this is indicative of how the Sox will be playing all year, I'm going to be dealing with a lot of very grouchy people.
GO RAYS!
Have to say I'm glad I wasn't at Saturday's game....
Cards lost their first game but damn in the 20th inning the stands were empty.
We joked saying we should go down and see if they would let us in just to watch the end and have butts in the seat s for the cameras :lulz:
I only watched the last 3 innings of that game but it was still goddamn ridiculous. How is it even possible for BOTH teams to go scoreless for 18 innings? That is two whole games!!! The box score (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=AiUrf2YUPuDY.FNS.ulGt9q4u7YF?gid=300417124) looks like a fucking mess since all but 3 players got in the game. 19 fucking pitchers, including 2 position players for the Cards.
Also the tv announcers mentioned that there were two high school teams that waited the seven hours for the game to get over so that they could play their game. :lulz:

Oh it was awful. I can't even tell you how many times both teams had the bases loaded. They walked Pujols, or tried to, every time he came up to bat. I have to admit though, it was a damn good game, I'm glad we saw it from home rather than live and being eaten alive by mosquitos because who would expect it to go THAT long?
I don't think the high school teams were able to play their games after all. There was something on the news but I didn't hear all of it.
Rays swept the Sox. Lulz.
There have been 5 no-hitters this year. Three have involved the Rays.

QuoteChris Coghlan is the latest player to become seriously injured while celebrating.
The Florida Marlins left fielder is headed for the disabled list with a torn meniscus in his left knee and could need surgery.
The reigning NL Rookie of the Year's injury was revealed in an MRI Monday. He was hurt while delivering a pie in the face to teammate Wes Helms following the pinch-hitter's bases-loaded single in the 11th inning of a 5-4 win over Atlanta on Sunday. There will be no more such celebratory antics by Florida, manager Edwin Rodriguez said.
"It's very humbling when the game is taken away and you don't realize it because you play every day," Coghlan said. "If you ever get injured you want to do it while you're out there competing, not when you're celebrating. Emotions get the best of you, you're excited. There's nothing wrong with that but be a little smarter when you're celebrating a win."
:lulz:
Jeezus!
So does this mean that the Rays can't hit? Or that no one can hit the Rays? Or both?
Baseball stats get funny that way.
