Title: TEXT "PEEDY" TO 41411
Post by: Template on April 10, 2010, 06:42:57 PM
I recently found this site http://textmarks.com . It alloows me to send out automated text messages for free (for every party).  To try it out, I set up a contact that sends out the News: from the top of a http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php page.

Feel free to test it; I'd like some feedback.

Also, I think I can turn over control of the service for "PEEDY" to someone else--I don't especially want to maintain it.

Thats odd, when I read this an alarm bell started blairing in my head. does it give you the phone numbers of the people who do this, and does it not charge them through the nose for those texts?

I have reason to believe that nobody pays to receive a text with them.  The free version of the service just concatenates adverts to the end of the text, so far as I can tell.

I can probably see your numbers, but it doesn't especially matter to me.  One of the service's suggested uses is coordinating groups.

Also, the topic title I used probably primed you to anticipate being charged limbs through your orifices.

So, it's ok my idea strikes you as suspicious.  Most things that say TEXT "WORD" TO #SOME NUMBER# do want to make money off you.

You'll usually* incur a cost only if your cel plan has a limited # of incoming txts/month.      <-ex-Nextel/sprint/BoostMobile-spag

*unless the company 'gets' your permission to bill directly to your acct.

That's called "premium SMS" and we don't support it, sorry.

having limited incoming texts in this day and age strikes me as analogous to, say, having an 8-track player in your car.

So did anyone actually try the damned thing?

Did you get something weird?  You'll get different results if you do it repeatedly...

"We should pay more attention to the fnords when we discuss discordianism?  Seriously?  Okay, listen dude, you stop coming"

So yes, a little weird.  I've never been told to stop coming.

The car companies don't charge a monthly fee for CD players though.

I don't trust websites with gradient backgrounds and a poor design.

I tend to agree with you there.

I suspect they're just not business-savvy.  It's more likely to fail than screw me over, I suspect.  The service is not suited for emergency preparedness, IOW.
