Title: Greetings, pinball lovers!
Post by: LaughingOtter on April 24, 2010, 06:27:49 AM
Tomorrow I intend to visit every single place in the University Of Washington area that has a pinball machine and leave some Discordian trifolds in each and every one of those places.
Eris has always spoken to me thorough pinball machines. When did you ever play any pinball table the same way twice?

There's something about pinball machines. They're like shrines, all festooned with colors and lights and little whirly-gigs shaped like naked ladies or pineapples.

Ha! Pink Gorilla especially! I promised the owner I would come in and also show him how to beat Marble Madness. Today is that day!
Weather outside is alternating between sunny and clouds. Could possibly rain. Some wind and then it stops for a while. Seems like a Discordian day to me!
I'll let you guys know how things went this evening.

Marble Madness is the best video game ever made1.  Your mention of it has temporarily suspended my urge to make a pinball machine out of your preserved carcass, as a penance for your shameless pinealism.

1 Bear in mind that I also view Hawk the Slayer as the best fantasy movie ever.

Oh nostalgia.  Marble Madness almost drove me over the edge when I was a kid.

I don't often get to do Legionnaire Deacon work, but I like it when I can get away with it. You see so many JesusFreaks out there on the Ave., with their "Your (sic) All Going To Hell" signboards and their hate-filled sermons which are just screaming "I am truly a fucked-up and empty person" (the sermonizer, that is). It gives me a mental picture of monkeys howling and throwing their poop at random passers-by. Makes me sad.

Then, you see some college kid pick up a trifold, look puzzled, and start to read it. Eventually there will be a smile and then inevitable laughter, and now his friends are puzzled at what their friend is reading that's so funny. At least that's what happened at the Sure Shot coffeehouse while I was playing Space Mission.

I would much rather make people laugh. It really isn't a very happy planet out there. Anything we do to brighten up someone's day at random is a Good Thing.

If I was a shameless pinealist I would try to do the Discordian thing at work where there is a major Christianity element. Instead I limit myself to a couple of pages from The Coloring Book (Think For Yourself and The Enlightened Take Things Lightly) on my cubicle wall and so am tolerated in the same light as my Jewish friend in the cubicle across from me. (We watch each other's backs, too.). I don't preach to the pinball crowd I hang out with, either. Like any of them would give a damn about any of that stuff anyways, bless 'em.

Maybe I am a shameless pinealist. Now what do I do?

I'm sure you could get a decent widebody game out of my preserved carcass, though you would have to space the vertebrae along a long steel rod so there would be at least five feet for the actual table. Make an interesting visual effect too, the rib bones arcing over the game table. The cock and balls would make a great ball plunger (too big to be a flipper, ha ha) and a TILT would result in a massive burst of flatus.

Yeah, TILT was almost heartbreaking to watch for me. I was playing pinball in the 1970s when that was all there was until 1973. Even so, by 1980 there were at least a dozen places you could go where you could find a dozen games or more besides the videogames.
Last year I went to Los Angeles for my birthday and phoned ahead to plan a pinball tour and show my wife where I had wasted so much of my youth. Only two places had pinball (Family Abusement Corp in LA and Hollywood Billiards). This included two minigolf castles and the arcade in Granada Hills I practically grew up in! So yeah, I've watched pinball dwindle down to nearly nothing except for the collectors and the places whose owners grew up on pinball. I'm happy to live in a city like Seattle where

So I've been very active in the local pinball clubs, much to their amusement. I've been hooking up with the other pinball clubs in the USA just to see how things are done over there (which blows their minds), and I even brew a 5-gallon keg of beer for each of the pinball tournaments, style being on request, though Sacred Cow  IPA seems to be the overall favorite so far. I know what the name sounds like, but that's the recipe name.

I almost thought you meant the Brooke Shields TILT film, which was...umm, yeah, OK. I thought the bits where guys two and three times her age were trying to pick up on her were more than a bit creepy, but unfortunately I can't say that sort of thing didn't happen. Liked the theme music better than the film.

Dok,
have you ever played the marble game "kororinpa" on the Wii?
It's a pretty good marble game, i think.  too short, but good.

No.  The Wii is an abomination in our eyes.  Trakball or GTFO!

you should try it sometime.  you hold the controller flat and moving it causes the entire level to move in kind, and the marble rolls accordingly.
and it's pretty.

It is however a very lame music video.

Agreed. It IS a lame video.

But the BellRays doing "Pinball City" is NOT.

Bet you didn't know there are about 50 songs about pinball out there, not including all the remakes of Pinball Wizard and Pinball Boogie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTET7TEuKq8
Pinball Boogie - Red Foley
Now how is it that this song isn't as popular as Pinball Wizard? It's actually pretty damn cool!

If you want I can get you a file of those 2 to a page. If you're willing to blow $10 you can get a lot of glossy prints.

Here you go (click the preview). 200pdi, 2 per page. Don't worry about bleeds, it's small enough, but you'll have to trip them out of the paper.

Trifolds will be left lying around...
Come and see me there! The wife and I are fairly easy to spot...
I love that InterMittens ad! That should get its share of Belltown pole posts!
