Post by: Cramulus on May 04, 2010, 03:06:46 PM
My name is Cramulus, I've been into Eris for a few years now, I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. Nice board you guys have here. Lots of interesting stuff to read. So hi there, and I'll see you around the board!

Yeah, we sometimes mess with the system like that.

It's for May Fool's day.  Kind of a Holy Tradition™.

well it certainly took me off guard!  I just got back from running a LARP festival in Chicago, -- it was actually probably one of the worst LARP events I've ever run. Everything I did was fine, but factors outside my control prevented me from running the kickass event I wanted to.

Running these things is such a headache, it's so much stress with so little payoff. Sort of like being a Discordian. my girlfriend Chloe always wonders why I do it.

Kerouac sums up both LARP and Eris:

"We were already almost out of America and yet definitely in it and in the middle of where it's maddest."

that's it right there -- the mad ones, they are the salt of the earth. The owner of the game I was running, he is the maddest person I've ever met. I've known him for years, and I've wanted to strangle him as many times as I've wanted to hug him. He's both incredibly positive and incredibly negative at the same time. All of history's best figures were like that - you either love them or you hate them, and they deserve a lot of both. Those people are the movers and shakers, the real driving force of history.

"I want to be like him. He's never hung-up, he goes every direction, he lets it all out, he knows time, he has nothing to do but rock back and forth. Man, he's the end! You see, if you go like him all the time you'll finally get it."

Nicely done.  I think you'll fit in just fine, here.

but enough about me - I want to learn about you guys. It's probably too much to sum up the entire history of this place - why don't you guys just tell me what's been happening in the last week or so?

Harry broke.  He was doing his job, just like every other day, when he suddenly dropped his wrench and started sobbing.  40 years of fixing the same equipment, of pride in his work, of knowing he made a difference, that HE kept things going, for the most part...None of that mattered.  Whatever part wore down, he basically dropped in his traces.  A few minutes later, he staggered out the shop door and collapsed in the dust.  The ambulance guy said he was alive when they loaded him on the bus.

So, to make a long story short, we called the temp agency and got a new guy.  But we'll miss old Henry (or Harold or whatever his name was), and I guess we'll send him a watch or something.

Did someone turn the big wheel and dislodge the time-space continuum again?

I awoke with a start at 4 am. Scientists had discovered that there are inadequate Boson-Higgs particles in chicken breasts due to the public's undue fear of the Large Hadron Collider. A truck went by.

Nauseous, I went downstairs to let my barking dog in, went back upstairs and lay shivering and wide awake in the pitch-black thinking about glass axe-heads and scalpel blades.

When the birds began to sing, I fell into a fitful sleep and had sad dreams of a bald, hairy, elf-like man until the trucks awoke me again at 8:50.
