We lost Ronnie James Dio.

Metal just lost one of it's greatest masters.
FINALLY.
QuoteFINALLY.
He died this morning man. Pay some respect.
who?
Wow, he was pretty young to kick it.
Way too young.
Admittedly not being a real metal-head myself, I kind of assumed an early death came with being a metal legend.
I heard about this at one of the houses I ennumerated today.
What a way to go.

Also invented Devil Horns.

Kids these days not knowing their metal history... :gheyforum:
:(
Dio was/is the best metal vocalist of all time.
Huge loss.
The way I was told he got the devil horns off his Italian grandmother but was the first to popularise them.
Yes, and it really had nothing to do with the devil. It was actually a well-wishing gesture, kind of in the same spirit as the peace sign.
But of course, if you ask Gene Simmons, HE invented it.
On another note, Ronnie James Dio's death is pretty much the first death of Metal royalty. Sure there have been some big name deaths in metal like Dimebag. But it was inevitable that the founding fathers of Metal would eventually pass on. Hopefully the Halfords, the Iommis, the Blackmores (okay he is very un-metal these days), have a lot more life in them. But who would've thought Ozzy Osbourne would've outlived Dio?
Dio was huge in Metal and I'd love to see him get a send-off tribute concert like Freddy Mercury got when he died.
Also, dude belongs in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame but will obviously never get there.
According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_horns) it is a more vulgar way of knocking on wood.
Meh, Dio just moved to a wider audience. He couldn't contain all of his power for us mere mortals.
I'm fucking gutted. GUTTED! :x
One thing I learned, which I hadn't realized, in reading all of the tributes is that he was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He is/was a TRONEr.

Love Ronnie, but no. Funkadelic was using that sign well before Ronnie ever did. Zappa did too.

My vote would have been for Bruce Dickinson, but then again, I'm a total tard for Maiden. Nevertheless, terrible loss. And as far as Ozzy, that dude is impossible to kill. By all accounts he should have died in the 80s.
RIP Dio.
I love Bruce Dickinson, and Rob Halford. Both great metal voices. But for me, Dio's voice just had that extra element, that everything he sang sounded metal. It's hard to really describe in words.
Fuck it, I'll say it.
Tenacious D - Kickapoo.
I am naked and ashamed
I dunno, for metal voices, nothing tops the Daleks.
I suppose this officially makes Klaus Meine the shortest guy in metal.

I think that Glenn Danzig is just a smidge shorter, but I could be wrong
I read this on the way home from NJ surfing Facebook. :(
Told GS and he went, "WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!" :(
YUOR STEAMPUNK KILLED DIO.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111
If you insisted on taking out a former Black Sabbath singer you could've at least gone after someone expendable like Glenn Hughes. Nobody would miss him.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. Even the more bluesy material from his Rainbow days had that 'edge' to it.
Also I have to agree with every artist listed in your post but I also feel obligated to recognize Geoff Tate in terms of vocalists.
Also my wife was saying that she read that Dio got the horns idea from his Italian grandmother who used it as a cultural superstition to ward off evil.
Funny how that works. Course, citation needed and such.
It's true and it's pretty well documented. There was that documentary that this Canadian guy Sam Dunn did called "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey", in it he interviews Dio on a couple of occasions and that was pretty much the story he gave.
By the way, anyone who likes metal should see that film. It airs on VH1 Classic every once in awhile. It's great because it isn't the typical "history of metal" documentary, it really is more of an anthropological/cultural examination of Metal and the metal community.

Yeah, I agree. I didn't list him I think because I'm still bitter about how much Queensryche has sucked since Empire. They were one of my favorite bands when I was younger and it was disappointing watching them go from the masterpiece of Mindcrime to the WTF? of Hear in the Now Frontier.
HA yeah I don't really relate to that album much. My two standards are Mindcrime and The Warning
Oh look, the Westboro Church is planning on "paying their respects" at Dio's public memorial service

I wonder if they've ever seen a mosh pit before. That is how metal heads treat other metal heads, who they LIKE.
I hope they have good insurance.
QuoteHe hates God. Pay especial attention to the fact that he changed his original sir name from Padova to Dio, which means God in Italian.
"Especial" attention. Pay it.
Heh, they haven't discovered yet that the Dio logo upside down reads DEVIL.
Though, it's all stagecraft. Not witchcraft or satanism. And actually, I read that he and his wife Wendy were praying at the end.
Talk about Law of Fives run amok.
