what font is that... i want to put a larger version of this up at random places
That is Helevetica Neue Black.
And it has been abused and manhandled by non-proportional scaling.
I think it would look better in Metalista (http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/suitcase/metalista/), personally.
Try http://www.identifont.com/ and http://new.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Also it looks like the letters are stretched vertically a bit, at least some of them (DAYS). Ah I see that Net also mentioned this.
Net I dont think the point is to make it look as good as possible, but that this is a picture of an actual sign like that and Peleus wants to make a sign to look exactly like it, non-proportional manhandling included.
Further, I think you can get away with trying a few sans-serif fonts that look *enough* like it.
If you wanna be sure that people wouldnt go "hey but that's Verdana/Arial, must be a fake" then try the font that is used on all roadsigns in the US, I forgot what its name was (maybe someone else knows), even if it doesnt look exactly like the one on that picture, the US Roadsign font should carry enough subtle recognition of "officialness" that convinces people.
Yeah, any old super thick sans-serif would do in this case.
And the road sign typeface is called Highway Gothic (http://www.dafont.com/highway-gothic.font).
That said, "the correct typeface" usually offers a certain advantage in sneaking past the critical sensors in people's brains.
People don't need to know the names or have any formal education to know something is not quite right.
When you use popular typefaces in particular ways, you invoke the most common associations that the viewer has with them.
For people without familiarity with type, it's often a strictly unconscious process of innate primate pattern recognition.
There is some compelling evidence that people even defer to this instinct over the content of the message in many situations.
I wouldn't consider this application one of them, but it also wouldn't hurt in terms of effectiveness.
besides changing department for another word
and maybe accident...
what can be done to screw... i was thinking maybe place it in one location and replace it daily
Replace days with hours?
