Title: Life in a Black Hole
Post by: NotPublished on May 26, 2010, 12:07:19 AM
Hey all, came across an interesting theory

http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2010/04/does-our-universe-exist-in-a-black-hole-other-cosmic-queries.html (http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2010/04/does-our-universe-exist-in-a-black-hole-other-cosmic-queries.html)

Well no-one can agree on much, but if our universe exists in a black hole, would this affect the big-bang theory in a way? Instead of there being nothing to begin with - there was an already existing universe.. maybe a black hole and the death-star collided and we're the result.

I don't know, anyhow thought it was an interesting find

That... doesn't really compute.  black holes need things like time and gravity to exist, but time and gravity are properties of the universe.

Um... as for dark energy as mentioned in TFA, that's there in all models of the universe, not just string theory.  It's a placeholder for whatever is causing the increasing rate of expansion.

So a universe in a universe?

The problem with pretty much all theories of what is outside the universe, is that the laws of this universe can be considered unique this universe (ie if there is anything outside this universe there is no reason it would be similar in anyway to this universe) and we cannot (theoretically cannot, ie it is impossible) observe what is outside this universe. Thus most of these theories are untestable, and also have very little impact on other areas of astronomy.

So a universe in a universe?
Infinite regress, anyone?

EDIT (string theory, lol):
string theory, lol

And then the Universe happened.
