Title: Gosh it must be nice to live in a nation where the rule of law exists
Post by: Cain on July 06, 2010, 11:21:34 PM
Someone let me know when they find one, OK?

So, this whistleblower to Wikileaks, Bradley Manning, got charged today, and faces up to 52 years in prison for leaking a video, among other related charges.  He is 22 years old.

Meanwhile, those who have taken part in, or else ordered torture methods to be employed on suspected terrorists, are granted effective immunity by the Executive Branch, as part of their "lets ignore the past and get along in bipartisan unity" policy.

If you wreck the world economy, you will be gifted billions of taxpayers dollars.

If you drop bombs on Pakistani villagers from aerial drones, you will likely get a promotion.

Assassination without charge is a-OK.

So is kidnapping people to drop them in legal black holes like Bagram.

Just a daily reminder of how everyone is Equal Before The Law

Don't worry, I'm sure they will examine all the evidence and come to an fair and sensible verdict.

Perhaps this will put other whistleblowers on the alert, at least?

...Horrors.

Obama's war against whistleblowers is a generally accepted fact in media advocacy and freedom of information circles.  His administration has been handing out ludicrous penalties for anyone leaking information to the press (except when they want it leaked, naturally) and attempting to tighten up various laws in order to be able to punish harder and for more offences.

I love the smell of Janus in the morning.

My Administration is comitted to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration.
