Title: Anne Rice quites Christianity lol
Post by: Fredfredly ⊂(◉‿◉)つ on July 30, 2010, 01:42:05 AM
QuoteFor those who care, and I understand if you don't: Today I quit being a Christian. I'm out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being "Christian" or to being part of Christianity. It's simply impossible for me to 'belong' to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten ...years, I've tried. I've failed. I'm an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else.

As I said below, I quit being a Christian. I'm out. In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of ...Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.

I bet she did this because vampires are so profitable right now

This made my mom happy, because she quit Rice when she went uber Catholic.

That's retarded. She's not leaving Christianity, she's just leaving Catholicism. She still believes in saying things "In the name of Christ", so still a Christian.

I would argue that being a follower of the teachings of Christ and being a "christian" can be two different things.

Yes, its true... one is following a dude that was potentially fictional... the other is joining the tribe of people that follow said 'potentially fictional' dude.

So basically, she's on the Indie Jesus label now....

She still believes in Super Magic Jesus, so she's still a Christian. She has abandoned organized Christianity but is keeping the beliefs that she wants to keep. She's keeping the map but has left the city to go explore the wilderness.

Jesus would quit Christianity.

He'd also probably take a shit in the river because they didn't have advanced septic systems back then.

Unfortunately, I think it's one of those "Words mean what I want them to mean!!!11one!1!1!!!!" kind of fiascoes. To one person "Christianity" is merely the belief in Jesus as the Son of God blahblahblah, and to another person you're only a "real Christian" if you follow the High Holy Church of Jesus Christ Knitting Enthusiast.

Put ten people in a room and ask for a definition of Christianity, and you'll get eleven different answers. Kind of like Discordianism.

I doubt it will affect it much, wasn't she drawing most of her material from the Apocrypha and heretical texts to start with?

I'm not sure, to be honest.  I do have the first book of that trilogy (naively bought it before I gave up on Rice  ), but I haven't read it.  I wouldn't be surprised if she did use them, especially the infancy gospels, for the first two books when she was writing of Jesus' childhood.

I would like to know what would happen if you crucified a vampire. Or put one through a meat grinder. Or locked one in a full blast furnace for several hours. Or used a machine gun to turn one into swiss cheese. Or tossed one off the Empire State Building.

Someone find me a vampire. I have a shit-ton of experiments I have to try out.

She will use the manuscripts to dab up the sorrows of leaving Christ and coming to Satan.

ANNNND so I was bored enough to actually email the dude who wrote that crap-

To Mr Matthew Brown,

Good day to you sir, and I hope the lord has blessed you and yours this lovely day.
I am the Reverend Felix Nothus, KSC, and I'm a big fan of your work. You show very creative and original thinking, I must say, I am quite impressed.
So impressed, I am giving you an honorary conversion to our Discordian-Christian sect, Our Blessed Lady Of Chaos, of which I am entitled to do under the guidance and authority of our lord ERIS.

You are now entitled to all the rights and blessings that are applicable to to our faith, this is a binding contract with our lord that comes into effect the moment you finish reading this, and as such this is an irreversible contract which you cannot back out of.
I'm sorry if this isn't what you wanted as I know you had already chosen a faith that you think you belong to, but actually, not anymore, since by being converted to our faith, you now hereby relinquish all previous faiths you may or may not of had.
Also, we are big fans of Anne Rice as we know you are too, and have given her a similar conversion which breaks all contractual obligations she had to your christian sect that you have claimed she is still a part of, despite her obvious resignation from it.

I hope you will be able to contribute some good works to our faith and may the lord bless you and yours everyday from now until the rapture.

Love, Light + Chaos.

The Good Reverend Felix Nothus.

--------------------

I really, really hope he replies, and if he doesn't, I'll be sure to keep emailing him reminders he is to cease all activity with his old faith and start contributing to his new faith to which I've converted him to.

You really need to alter a Cease and Desist order and send it to him, demanding that he immediately stop worshipping Christ.

It is a lot easier to stay in character if you space out your posts.  You do too many of them then you confuse the two personalities and it loses the effect.  Not that I know anything about any of this.  ;)

Awesome, I'm glad there is no character.  Since we've established that, can you stop posting in the upper/lower case bullshit?  Because I think you might really be posting something interesting but trying to decipher it gives me a headache, so I don't!

Yes'm. Right away. Long story short, instead on ragging on this lady, we should be  regardless of whether or not she beleives her own bullshit. I mean, it mat not make that much of a difference here, as most of us ArE tEH MadHdGJiCKALLY PaGaNz, but for her fan base, and I'm assuming that she has a "young adult" fan base, this may speak volumes and give them a little something different for them to chew on, as opposed to whatever their parents are feeding them.

Sure, wampires and all that, but I personally like seeing christianity get a kick in the dick. Even if it is just a love tap.
