QuoteWhen a Tennessee man hacked Sarah Palin's e-mail account and wrote of his exploits on the forum 4chan, federal investigators asked the site's founder Christopher "Moot" Poole for server logs. Court testimony from April and published yesterday shows that federal prosecutors had other pressing questions for Poole: for example, the meaning of "peeps" and "rickroll."
Assistant to the U.S. Attorney Mark Krotoski questions Poole:
QuoteQ. Certain terms, have a meaning unique to 4chan?
A. Yes.
Q. Like "OP," what is "OP"?
A. OP means original poster.
Q. Are you familiar these terms, having been the founder and administrator of the 4chan site?
A. Yes.
Q. What would "lurker" mean?
A. Somebody who browses but does not post, does not contribute.
Q. What do the words "caps" mean?
A. Screenshots.
Q. And is there any significance to "new fags"?
A. That is the term used to describe new users to the site.
Q. What about "b tard"?
A. It's a term that users of the /b/- Random board use for themselves.
Q. What about "troll"?
A. Troublemaker.
Q. "404″?
A. 404 is the status code for not found. It means essentially gone or not found.
Q. Not found on where, the 4chan site?
A. 404 is the http status code for not found, a page not found by the Web server.
Q. In what about "peeps"?
A. People.
Q. "Rickroll"?
A. Rickroll is a mean [sic] or Internet kind of trend that started on 4chan where users — it basically a bait and switch. Users link you to a video of Rick Astley performing Never Gonna Give You Up.
:lulz: I love this century.

Okay, so, if the government can't even google rickroll......why are we worried about the big search computers now? :lulz:
Didnt this guy get several YEARS for hacking palins email?
I dont think the hacker has been sentenced yet, but he could get up to 20 years.
The testimony referenced in this thread, however, is not that of the hacker... but that of the founder and owner of 4chan.
That was really bland and uninteresting like most courtroom transcripts/4chan news. Glad to see moot is keeping up his tradition of handing out info to the FBI at the drop of a hat.
Haha, reminds me of a courtroom transcript Zappa included in his book. It was a piece of a trial against him for something like inappropriate content in his songs. Every time he's asked about the lewd implication of a lyric, he says something like, "Well, you can certainly see it that way, but that is not the meaning I intended."
...peeps? Shit, I thought those were those little marshmallow things.

This ws related to labels on records saying that you needed a certain age to listen to them.
This discussion in the courtroom (wich zappa won) was filmes but it seems that youtube has removed it. I found somethin else related though wich is a discussion with him on the same topic on TV. His answers are great

Yeah, seen all the youtube clips multiple times - they're great. His sober, honest common sense just makes them look like utter fools. So satisfying to watch.
But I don't want to derail the thread, so that's all I'll say about that.

Now this is fun.
What kind of crap would you find sitting around in Palin's email? :P

The fact that she uses personal email for government business.
Apparently theres some sort of rule against that or something.
I still hate how dramatic they make it sound, he didnt "Hack" anything he guessed where she went to high school.
Peoples accounts on things are hacked every day, the hackers usually arent caught and if they are they dont get years in prison.
He got what he deserved for hubris being a histrionical wank. KYFMS

It's roughly the political equivalent of jaywalking, unless a personal email is being used to circumvent searches for evidence of other crimes. Watching liberals go into histrionics over it (the same ones now applauding Obama's assertion he can have anyone indefinitely detained) and crying about "the rule of law" was hilarious, though.

you defend 4chan's honor?

Only if by doing so it would be considered an epic troll.

Really? It's 4chan. Ask yourself, "considered an epic troll" by whom?
And it seems, neither does Moot see any value in gaining 4chan's respect.
Given all the shit that goes down on his board, cooperating as much as possible is probably what keeps Moot out of jail.
Also, how fun would it be to sit there and hear a govt. official ask those questions as if they might be important?

I read in an interview with him that he hasnt gone a year since he made the site without a ride in the FBIs party van.
Why should he stick his neck out anyway? He's not some revolutionary, he's just a website administrator.
Someone else will have to fill the role of /b/-tard jesus. :lulz:

Seems perfectly justifiable, given his userbase are 14 year old script kiddies, weeaboos, basement dwelling sock fuckers and 15 year old girls starved for attention, for the most part.

And then he has a minority of furries, paedophiles and people who shoot up their schools and announce it on/b/
With that kind of clientèle I wouldn't be surprised if he gave the FBI their own admin login.
The furries and pedos went without saying, though I forgot about the school shooter. And I'm pretty sure that's the only reason why 4chan is still allowed to stay running, because it makes keeping tabs on those easier.
Also why I don't fucking bother.
