Title: Texture and food.
Post by: Adios on August 19, 2010, 08:04:51 PM
Are there foods you simply can't stand the thought of putting in your mouth just because of it's texture?

Yogurt is one for me.

I think I've learned to accept most things.  Tripe is one of the few things I can't really, uh, "stomach,".

But since I overcame eating octopus (yum!) and eel, I'm good to go.  Not to mention the snails, frog legs, calf fries, etc. I've eaten...but tripe meh.  Oh, and tongue.

Overcooked broccoli. Especially if done in the microwave.

This. Tapioca pudding too. Ick.

And not that I go around eating pig brain all the time, but trying it confirmed my aversion to any sort of meat paté. Puréed meat paste?  :vom:

I like meat pastes.

I do not like the texture of that rubbery wobbly meat fat though.
The kind that just kinda wubba wubba between your teeth, never dissolves no matter how long you chew it. Gross.
tendons also

I will eat just about anything, and I'm actually enthusiastic about it, but there are a few things I can't handle.  Like Squiddy said, I can't take fat on steaks or anything, I'll gag, always have.  And gefilte fish will never again touch this tongue.

I honestly don't know how a human being can live without mushrooms.  It's almost as bad as not liking mushrooms.  Power to you, for existing that way.

Funeral Jello.  y'know that shit with the sour cream or whatever the fuck it is in it that makes it milky translucent, with the little mini marshmallows in it... Ugh!

I don't like capers.

I don't think there is any food that I actually can't stand... maybe raw squid? I remember spitting some out once because my throat wouldn't let me swallow.

I can't tolerate the smell of cabbage cooking. I will leave a place if they are cooking it.

Mealy apples
Bananas. They must be still half green to be tolerable. Otherwise it's like eating slugs.

I don't mind the slimyness of okra that's brined in a jar.  Mmmm...pickled okra's awesomesauce.

Eggplant (except if it is blended into a dip, then I handle the texture.)

Tofu (no matter how its prepared-too freaking weird of texture for me)

and yes-

Okra (unless in gumbo-cause then you don't even know it's there. )
:)
