What do the numbers measure?  Also, what does England outside of UK mean?  I am surprised Australia didn't come in higher, every Australian I have ever talked to drinks.

Liters per cap. And I guess UK means the remainder of the empire (ie. Northern Ireland the few islands in the Caribbean ect.) I'm surprised by Russia and Australia, but it goes to show you stereotypes mean shit.

I don't think the Scots are counted as a separate country since they are part of the UK.

So England outside UK means England, not counting Scotland, Northern Ireland etc?  It sounded like the part of England that isn't part of the UK to me, which is why I was confused.

UK = England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales
Separate figures exist for England and Scotland in this list but Wales [as usual] is not important enough to count and it would be interesting to know if in the current political climate "Ireland" actually refers to north and south together.

Probably not, given that it's a list of countries and not counties.

Russians drink Vodka, it doesnt take as many liters of Vodka as it does other drinks to get drunk.

I don't see what they did to normalize for differences in the average ABV consumed by countries.

Why isn't Finland on the list?  They're notorious for the suicidal approach they have to alcohol (and life in general).

I would like to note at this point that as far as beer consumption goes, the Czech Republic is number one.
I would also like to note that the Irish are fond of whiskey.

The Northern Irish thing should always be defined. It's tricky, because people usually consider to the UK to be England Scotland and Wales. If Scotland and Wales are listed separately, the UK should not be listed at all.

It is also normal for people from Northern Ireland to represent the Republic in the Olympics and other international venues.

Northern Ireland should never be used in statistics unless Northern Ireland is clearly defined. Same thing with Ireland and UK, since either of them may or may not include Ulster, depending on point of view

I can understand Luxembourg (sucks, not living in a real country) and the Czech Republic (hella cheap) and Moldova (ex-Soviet state still occupied in part by Russian soldiers and where life sucks so much the Communists are 4 seats away from seizing power again) and especially Scotland being in the top 10.  Not sure about Hungary though, and I would've thought France, with it's casual wine consumption at every meal of the day, would be higher too.

I bloody voted for the pubs to open on a Sunday so we aren't all that saintly.

MMIX; not tea-total, just doesn't drink.

I think it is litres of ethanol, per capita, per year.

Also, I'd say the reason Australia isn't higher is because alcohol is kinda expensive here.

Yeah, there's a lot of sober religious types to make up for. It would be interesting to see consumption by city and state.

The Amish drink quite a bit.  They grow some really good weed too.
