Well, kinda, according to some guy who decided to rank the top eight nerd religions:

We got beaten by Jedis :(
Surprised to see the Encyclopedia Dramatica definition actually has a slightly intellegent joke in it.
Also, did not know Penn of P&T was a Subgenii.
The Church of the Subgenius is really just an offshoot of Discordianism.
Discordia takes 1st and 3rd place, by right of Apostolic Succession!

Yep he is... The first Erisian I knew introduced me to Teller, and Teller was joking about Penn and "Bob" and I was mostly confused.
Also, note the Bobhead at the end of every Pee-Wee's Playhouse episode.
:argh!: Mark Mothersbaugh
I'm surprised that we're nerdier than FSMism. That's pretty fucking nerdy.

Not sure that I lead ;-)
Acutally, I think Discordianism is nerdier than FSMism.
First, FSMism is a single shot joke... very good for its intended target, but sorta falls flat after that.
Discordianism is an ever expanding absurdist philosophy... or religion... or joke... or ummm what is it again?
FSM has some nerds that got the joke.
Discordianism has Geopolitical nerds, Philosophy nerds, History nerds, Sociology nerds, Biology nerds and RWHN who are making the joke (or pun in RWHN's case).
FSM has a nerdy basis in science vs creationism.
Discordianism has a nerdy basis in Neo-Paganism, Absurdism, Politics, the anti-establishment movement, the anti-anti-establishment movement, Conspiracy Theory and one of our founders fucked a goddamned chair.
Its like comparing Episode 1 of Star Wars with Episode 4,5 and 6. ;-)
Gotcha. FSMism annoys me because it's essentially a dead joke. But then again, so is Creationism. ANd you're right. You're all a bunch of nerds. But I like that.
We're nerdier simply because we take it more seriously.
By our own definition of serious, granted.
I think Discordianism and SG are similar, for sure, but I think they are different enough at the same time.
Also, didn't Mark Mothersbaugh more or less renounce his membership in the SG? I thought I read that somewhere.

He was still listed as a minister in 2007 when the Bobliographon was released. I think that's the most recent thing I'm aware of.

Yes, they are totally different, in the same way Episcopalianism is different from Christianity.

Yes, and notwithstanding popular belief... they both formed independently.
Ah, I'm probably just making it up. Probably swamp gas or sun flare or some other mundane cosmic phenomenon.

Besides, who's gonna believe a Sub Genius when they say they aren't a Sub Genius anymore?

This.
As much as it would cause wailings and nashings of teeth in some sects, this.
Rat: Once the two where aware of each other (which at this point happened really earlier in their existences), there was no untangling the tar-baby from the tar-baby.

That reminds me, I wonder how that Devo social networking site is turning out. Haven't gone there for a while. Lots of SubGs there.

You've already seen it.
Every time we troll.
Now, if you mean the hierarchs, they're too busy being self-important to have any fun.
I have the number of the girl who runs the stage at xday ;)

Have we ever had anyone from the Latter Day Dudes visit? Just from a cultural/anthropological perspective, I'd be interested in learning a little more about them. See if there is any substance to them or if it's just a group of stoners who really, really liked The Big Lebowski.
Jeff Bridges was talking about the importance of mythology at sdcc
Then again he was probally talking about Tron
