Title: Sequel to American McGee's Alice
Post by: Disco Pickle on October 23, 2010, 04:38:22 PM
I know there's some game geeks here, there's just not a forum for it..

I still have the original game and play it every few years..

but have you spags heard there will be a sequel?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8TNkeHk3Fo

it's such a tease, but after watching it I could carry two cheese burgers, and a dozen donuts.

[EDITZ]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUmLstbaK-g&NR=1

found another one.

I can't even stand up straight right now.

OH JESUS, several years ago they made hoax videos of a sequel.

But now the video has link to EA http://www.ea.com/alice (http://www.ea.com/alice) so it must be legit.

Sadly, the premise doesnt sound as solid as the initial one:

Quote from: EA
Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice's family from her and left her terribly burned—and her mind terribly scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, struggling to come to terms with her demons by slipping into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release--yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.

In Alice: Madness Returns, Alice is released from the asylum to a London psychiatrist's care. As nightmarish hallucinations continue to haunt her and invade her reality, she seeks to understand her torment in order to recover herself. Her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear and neuroses prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Her relocation to London seems only to add to their number and intensity.

Perhaps she'll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the "real" world can't provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge.

Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?

Oh I dunno. Could prove to turn out to be quite good. I'm imagining some creepy london / wonderland crossovers like when silent hill turns into the other place...

The America McGee version is also my favorite Cheshire cat too.

Me too.

The Art of Alice: The Madness Returns

http://www.amazon.com/Art-Alice-Madness-Returns/dp/1595826971

got this for my birthday this past weekend.  Pretty amazing, creative and twisted art in here.

I also learned that they had an M.C. Escher inspired level planned but had to cut it.

The only way this game made it through the ESRB is if they didn't completely understand exactly what the hell was going on.

Game play gripes aside, this will go down as one of the most subtle, thoughtful, disturbing, twisted and psychological games of all time outside of maybe Bioshock, and even that collapsed as a compelling narrative by the second game, IMO.

I so want this game. Sadly I'll have to wait until it hits the used shelf.

I'd send you my used one, but I'm convinced they'll tone it down and re-release it soon considering wtf they did, and I plan on revisiting it every 5 years just for the mind fuckery.

Like a good book, this one's going to be good forever.

Still never played the first one, but I remember the fallout from the Penny Arcade comic to this day. They even did a sequel.

That entire "episode" was pretty damn awesome.

Parody as homage is what comics are about IMO.  McFarland should have just STFU and let it ride.

Wait, what? McFarlane? You mean McGee? I don't remember him saying much about it.

The bit I remember is that they parodied the original game by doing a comic about "American McGee's Strawberry Shortcake." The problem was that this was right around the time the Strawberry Shortcake brand was being relaunched, and the owners threatened to sue PA over harming their brand or whatever the fuck the lawyers came up with.

The image in question (mildly NWS) is here (http://images.cryhavok.org/v/Penny+Arcade+Strawberry+Shortcake.jpg.html).

I'm going to play through Alice2 when I'm done grinding through Duke Nukem Forever.

That's right, it was American Greetings they had the legal issue with, parodying American McGee and McFarlane toys.  (sure are a lot of Americans and Mc's in that mix) and I did see the recent revisit.

I love those guys so much.
