QuoteA French aristocrat descended from Louis XIV is seeking a court order to stop a Japanese artist exhibiting his work at the Palace of Versailles.
Work by Takashi Murakami, who blends Japanese classical art with manga-style modernity, is on show until December.
But Prince Sixte-Henri de Bourbon-Parme believes Murakami's brightly coloured work dishonours the memory of his ancestors.
The prince and fellow protesters say Murakami "denatures" French culture.
"By exhibiting at Versailles, artists benefit from an added value," he told the AFP news agency.
"We're not against the modernity of art but against a way of thinking that denatures and does French culture no good," the prince said.
Takashi Murakami is considered by some to be the Japanese answer to Andy Warhol. Personally, from what I've seen of his works, I'm not impressed. But I've also been to Versailles Palace, and if it weren't for the fact it is over 350 years old, I'd consider it gaudy and tacky in the extreme. Plus winding up the French when they get a stick in their arses about cultural degredation is hilarious.
haaay my uncles boyfriend is an artist who works for him
I think it's tacky, old or not.
This just sounds like a stuffy old bastard who can't deal with modern art.

He just loved too much. :(
He was out of his time. Like Lovecraft could have been hetero lifebuddy with Poe, Lou needed Liberace and David Bowie.
I remember seeing this guys stuff for the first time when I was quite young. It was TERRORFYING.
I LOVE Murakami. The guy is freaking amazing.
