Title: You think your government is evil?

In Palestine, you can be convicted of "Athiesm"  :horrormirth:

http://www.newser.com/article/d9je46fg0/palestinian-authority-seizes-atheist-after-he-criticizes-islam-on-facebook-and-blog.html

QuoteThe case of the unlikely apostate, a shy barber from this backwater West Bank town, is highlighting the limits of tolerance in the Western-backed Palestinian Authority _ and illustrating a new trend by authorities in the Arab world to mine social media for evidence.

Residents of Qalqilya say they had no idea that Walid Husayin _ the 26-year-old son of a Muslim scholar _ was leading a double life.

Known as a quiet man who prayed with his family each Friday and spent his evenings working in his father's barbershop, Husayin was secretly posting anti-religion rants on the Internet during his free time.

Now, he faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for "insulting the divine essence." Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam, and even family members say he should remain behind bars for life.

This shit makes me fucking sick. It makes me fucking ANGRY.
These people, what the hell is going on in their heads? Seriously, are they still living in the bronze age?
You know what I think?
I think if these people want to convict their own people for their beliefs, to have such an ancient way of thinking, then they should not have access to modern things.

Take away their computers. Take away their internet. Take away every device that was engineered by people who they would claim are heretics because they don't share their beliefs.
They want to think like people in the stone age, then they should LIVE IN CONDITIONS OF THE STONE AGE.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK THIS SHIT.

i say we need a hotspot for all zealous nuts to aggregate.
Put a fence around it and toss some weapons over the fence.
You want to kill for your god? fine, here is a guy who is willing to kill for a different god.
Go play.

They live in Palestine.  Making them live in Stone Age conditions would be redundant.

The fact that this guy was posting anti-religion stuff on the internet shows that they need MORE internet where they are. Free flow of information helps people think about it.

You said that such people have an ancient way of thinking. Doesn't this mean that you have a picture of societies which have to follow a certain direction in order to develop? And somewhere on that way between stone age and "perfect society" is the western world, but the other societies are definitely further afar from the perfect society? So it would be best for all societies to develop in the same direction as the western world? Or did I completely misunderstand you? It's just that if someone says "They are like us in the middle age", I always understand it like "One day they gotta be more like us".

Another thought about that article: One day, the people/governments of the western society decided to separate state from religion. From this day on they had to find other sources to justify their actions. They were no more able to say (A:) "this is fair because god said it", so they changed it into something like (B:) "this is fair because common sense said it".
Now, extremely simplified, we have "A" zones and "B" zones on the planet, and people of the particular zones are used to the particular justifications. Of course, there are mighty people who abuse their own power in both zones.
Now let's think of a B human who reads something about a "bad deed" commited by an A human.
B shouts "This wouldn't have happened if A was into common sense!". This works the other direction too, and if you are an A person generally willing to prevent harm, you could see atheism as the beginning of the end of the world, because your sense of justice comes directly from religion (whereas B human's sense of justice comes a little bit less directly from religion).

"A"'s atheism != "B"'s atheism

I think you missed the point Welty.

The point is that they want to imprison someone for life because he's an atheist, which is just retarded and backward no matter how you look at it.

Yes, I share the opinion that people shouldn't be imprisoned for thinking or believing something. I wanted to point out that atheism doesn't mean the same everywhere. It might be too simple to see atheism as a choice you can make contrary to believing in god. It can also be seen as the attempt to destroy the power of a government. And there are enough other examples where people get imprisoned for that.
