The NSA has already been given the authority to carry out offensive cyberwarfare operations around the globe.
The screenshot seems to disagree with the 'no warrant' part of the story.

QuoteNSA is protecting us from copyright infringement. This is great news. Where do I turn in my federal reserve notes?

So much bad scariness from the government lately. What the hell, it's all happening so fast now.
Either it's punishment for not accepting the backscatter machines/groping. Or they are just keep getting away with shit like this, so they don't bother wondering if they are going too far anymore.
I wonder how hard it would be to dub braveheart with audio clips from the news

Ancient legend speaks of a terrible beast known only as the Usgov. It had the power to destroy the world, and the power to give itself more powers. It mostly used this power to grope vacationers and harass revelers.

:lulz: Sigged.
:D
I love thinking about tribes living in the aftermath of the apocalypse, and their crazy myths based on our doings.

I warned you. I warned you all.
Haw haw, that Roger, he's so delightfully and amusingly paranoid!
I didn't exactly doubt it, I just hoped for something less depressing.

D/N/T the banality of evil.
Much agreed. The world needs better villains.

I know! I have to confess, right now I'm kind of basking in the warm glow of "I told you so". Thanks, government! :horrormirth:
Since when is linking to an outside site classified as copyright infringement? Wow, what a waste of manpower... I want my taxes returned.
Of course, you realize this means Google is the largest filesharing site in the world now, don't you?
Not that the Feds will care. Not so long as Google keeps putting backdoors for the NSA (http://edition.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/01/23/schneier.google.hacking/) into its email service....
:aaa:
WTF MAN?! I love gmail...god dammit!
Are there any secure email clients out there?
redacted. check PMs. :)
PGP encryption is a good place to start. I like gmail too, but I wouldn't trust sensitive information to them ever (then again, I also take the dictum "two can keep a secret if one is dead" seriously, so, you know...)
Ah well, thank you both.
You know, this is even more disturbing if they got a warrant, given that A) at least one of the sites was upholding the law 100% and B) Said site doesn't appear to have done anything criminal, even if they were infringing, it wasn't a police matter.
Since when does ICE have anything to do with copyright infringement?
Or did I miss something???

ICE would handle anything involving a computer, if its actually criminal, wouldn't it? There are some very specific things that are criminal within copyright infringement, just not any in this specific case that have been mentioned (conceivably, one of the users might have done something like that, which would give them cause to search for that user's info, but even if the site owners had set things up explicitly for copyright infringement they wouldn't be responsible for that).
Reading the fine print in the warrant, the domain name was not listed, they do not actually have a warrant for that, so this is a warrant-less seizure.

The screenshot does provide reason for the shutdown, or at least provides proof that lawful means were undertaken as a warrant was provided.
