It happens in Canada every year they've lost the Stanley Cup since 1967. So, basically, my entire life. And then some.
The funniest thing about this, other than the highly inflated opinion British football fans have of, well, everything to do with the national side, is that a few days before the decision, the Sun (patriotic as only a paper owned by an Australian-American can be) ripped the BBC over an investigation showing corruption in the decision-making at FIFA.
Today?
They're clearly stating that Russia bribed its way to winning the World Cup.
:lulz:
It sounds a lot like Yankee and Red Sox fans too.

I do wonder...has anyone ever seen the Qatar National Team in a World Cup? I haven't. Because it'll be really sad if they don't make it into the World Cup if they're the home team.
FIFA is a corrupt organization. It is highly unsurprising that FIFA would want to do it in countries where they can skim off the top of the proceedings without pesky "laws" interferring.
Qatar isn't, interestingly, that corrupt, but they did buy FIFA off in another way, so it amounts to the same thing. Also, the idea of European football fans looking for beer in Qatar, watching matches played at 45-50 degrees celsius, makes me laugh.

Don't they automatically get entered if they're the host team?

Yep. They're going to crash and burn in the first round, though. Even if they do cope with the heat better than the foreign teams.
I can't see them winning any of the group play, that's for sure.

What? Americans generally conquer that sport by age 12 and then move on to real sports.

Soccer is daycare in the US, you only get good at it if your parents are obnoxious and have money. Basketball is our equivalent to footie in other countries...it's the "poor man's" sport of America. I was given a basketball for Christmas and sent outside to shoot hoops with the neighborhood kids instead of given a soccer ball and running down the street after it with my friends. It's just a cultural barrier that developed thanks to oceans.
I still can't play basketball for shit.
That's odd... My parents would give me something they called a "book" and told me to sit quietly in the living room.

Mine put me in front of TV and told me if I didn't shut up I could go clean my brothers' room.
Mine gave me a drum set and a knock-knock joke book.

I got those occasionally, but the best year was when we got the rollerblades...Rollerblading AND basketball?! YES. It was like hockey in a tennis court with a ball too big to really effectively maneuver with hockey sticks... And then people ask why my front teeth are fake.

Kersplatted. A lot.
And because of all this Suu became a TKD champ, LMNO became a white-collar nerd, RWHN became punmeister, and Jenne.... Married a terrorist.
Is joke.
An interesting perspective on the old nature vs. nurture debate.

Yeah, but does he wash his hands properly BEFORE and AFTER he has patient contact. My hand-washing webinar today informed me that if you don't you are a cold, heartless biological terrorist and should be shunned by society.

Actually, my failure at basketball lead me to play volleyball. Apparently if you can bump/serve a basketball and not break your wrists, this is impressive or something. :?

The skin on his hands is like a crocodile's. I think that gel stuff became popular amongst the hospital and clinic types because it's not as harsh as water + soap, 60+ times a day.
Satin soap. Srsly. Better than Provon.
Surgeons should just wear sterilized hockey gloves. Saves on the hand washing.
I'm just pissed that now I have to go to Russia to see a World Cup game. They better be playing in either Tyumen or Sochi, because I'll be damned if I have to shell out a zillion rubles for a hotel room.
What about Brazil? I've been there...interesting place.
I heard that Qatar is going to build air conditioned stadiums so everyone doesnt die

I dont have any friends in Brazil who will let me crash on their couch for a couple weeks. Also I suspect thats one of those places I just might never come back from.
