Title: Your Pistol is fine, but hand over those Nail clippers
Post by: Persona Facade on December 12, 2010, 11:08:24 PM
So some soldiers returning from combat are allowed to keep their firearms while on the plane, but their nail clippers are considered potentially dangerous weapons.
The TSA again makes us question if they are even doing anything to make traveling safer.

In case of link troubles.
Quote from: Conversation Between Soldier, Narrator, and TSA Officer
This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols.
So we're in line, going through one at a time. One of our soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers; Nail clippers. TSA informs the soldier that they're going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA: You can't take those on the plane
Soldier: What? I've had them since we left the country.
TSA: You're not supposed to have them.

Soldier: Why?
TSA: They can be used as a weapon.
Soldier: [touches the butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon.
TSA: Yeah but you can't use it to take over the plane. You don't have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?
TSA: [awkward silence]
Narrator: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the fuck out of here. I'll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands the nail clippers to the TSA Officer, makes it through security]

Top top it off, the TSA demanded we all be swabbed for 'explosive residue' detection. Everyone failed, [go figure, we just came home from a war zone], because we tested positive for "Gun Powder Residue." Who the fuck is hiring these people?

This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded the plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machien guns, but nothing that could be used as a weapon. Can someone please tell me, what the fucked happened to OUR country while we were gone?

That ends the conversation, the actual article is through the links.

Why the hell would soldiers have to go through security anyways?

TSA getting too powerful?

I don't remember going through TSA checkpoints on the way back.

I would very very dearly love to see somebody try to take over a plane with a knife or the like, when the plane has 200 trained soldiers on it (even if they don't have bullets).  :lulz:

Nevermind that aside from the flight crew and any DA civilians in the unit, we don't have any civilians on our troop movements.

Like Lord Glittersnatch I was surprised soldiers who were allowed to carry their firearms on board the plane were being scanned.

The funny thing is, the ammo-less rifles and pistols are still more dangerous as bludgeoning devices than a nail clipper is as any sort of weapon.

I know.
These men have had access to massive amounts of explosives and firepower, if one of them was going to go Jihad on everyone he would of done it by now.

Just an FYI. I flew both ways with my knives on me. But on the way back the bolt of my SAW was locked in a tuffbox in the cargo hold.

Should have demonstrated as such on the TSA guy, then claimed he did it cuz he's fighting for American FreedomTM

We didn't deal with TSA flying there or back.
