If my public high school  Biology education and memory are correct then yes.
What is going on right now might be a shifting of the magnetic poles, that means a whole bunch of birds and fish derping themselves to death because they think down is up.

Just from a scientific perspective, the two graphs that you offered-

My interest is piqued. Is the normal graph representative of the magnetosphere averaged over a whole solar cycle, at a solar minimum or a solar maximum? I ask because we're approaching a solar maximum, albeit after a very quiet and long solar minimum which might portend a stronger maximum.

I dont think the normal graph was averaged, its just an example of a "normal" day. The date it is from is on the bottome of the pic. Considering the date Id say its a minimum.

It is kinda weird that there is some overlap and what looks to be not only weakness in the polar regions but also shift specifically in the polar regions. That said, I don't actually know how to interpret these graphs, other than the blue and red seem to be displaced, and I'm just conjecturing about a solar connection due to coincidence.

Well, I'm going to have to investigate this, if only to keep up with the fucking conspiracy theorists.

And also, BATS ARE NOT FUCKING BIRDS. For Chrisssake, the former are Synapsida, the latter Sauropsida, the two groups separated by over three hundred million years.

Is there any actual evidence linking the case in Arkansas with any others?

My internet is playing up right now, so I'm not opening links, but unless the birds are dying in the same rather mysterious way the ones in Arkansas did (internal organ damage, no obvious external source for damage) then this is just the Law of Fives at it's paranoid best.

Pretty much.  Also, with the holidays just ending, and the changing of the guard politically, it's been a rather slow news cycle.  This bird and fish dying stuff fills the holes nicely and gives everyone something to get all lathered up about.

Yeah, it looks like (so far) that all of the birds in the various places have died in the same manner.

Did anyone see the report from the biologist (from Cornell? I think) that theorized that these birds were in their tree and storm winds sucked them up, chilled and basically froze them and they fell to the ground as a result of that?

I caught bits of that when the kids and I were looking everything up and I can't find it now.  After all of the tornado activity we had on New Years day, I can almost see that as being a possibility.  Almost....

The white nose fungus on bats has been a problem for a few years now.  I'm actually amazed that it's only now getting press.  I have a friend that's been investigating it for a while.  Seems pretty serious, especially since they eat mosquitoes and everyone's been flipping their shit about EEE and West Nile lately.

Actually, if you know where to look, there is a lot of press.  My sister is a cave nut and usually finds a few to spelunk every summer.  They started closing some of public caves to the general public a couple of years ago.  As of this summer, almost all caves were closed to anyone other than scientists, park workers, etc...   Totally ruined our summer vacation plans!

I wouldn't be surprised if all the other sightings are unrelated Lo5 stuff, indeed. However, I'm still really curious about what really caused the Arkansas incident, 5000 is quite a lot, and the explanations offered so far either don't fit the facts (fireworks), or are kind of out-there.

The pole shifting doomsayers are completely nuts.  Loss of the magnetic field would pose no radiological danger whatsoever to human life.  The entirety of the disaster would be limited to not being able to use compasses, or needing new maps since they all point in the wrong direction.  Oh and astronauts that rely on the magnetic field (they don't have ~100 kilometers of air to shield them) would need to adjust their orbit to deal with the shift before the next solar flare.

Maybe i'll get to be a X-Man, if it destroys my DNA

The magnetic field isn't "changing". The magnetic poles are continuing to shift, just as they have done forever. The shift is accelerating, which may or may not mean that they will reverse soon. No one knows what'll happen then, but the magnetic field will still be there as usual, and the magnetosphere will continue protecting the surface from radiation just as it's done for the last, oh, 3 billion years.

Sorry, but this reminds me about the documentary I saw on fracking, which I think LMNO and his wife saw, too, if I don't miss my guess:

Gasland (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1558250/)

Fracking should be banned. Yesterday.

BUT IT'S CLEAN ENERGY!! CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!

/corporate shills who use America's ignorance for their gain and everyone else's net loss

No, even better is the media is pretending Gasland is a science fiction film, and not a documentary.   :lulz:  (Swear to god, it was on CSPANs news hour).

Well, this makes as much sense as anything else...

It was the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell that killed all the birds. (http://jezebel.com/5730482/wingnut-says-gays-in-military-caused-mass-bird-deaths)

If the Earth's magnetic field's are changing, then we might be subject to cosmic radiation in the future O.O

Ashamed of my own ignorance. Sorry.

My personal theory is that they have learned to understand what people are saying. They are now committing suicide.

Scattered across the snow along a stretch of Second Street were the frozen bodies of dead starlings. Their bodies were everywhere, according to witnesses like Alison Brown.

"The street where we park and the sidewalks were just covered with them," Brown told the station.

Animal control officers picked up hundreds of birds on Monday, and more then turned up, bringing the total to more than 300.
{snip}
At first, Yankton Animal Control Officer Lisa Brasel said that the authorities "thought the birds didn't migrate, and got cold and froze to death."

Brasel said she didn't suspect illness because all the starlings were at a good weight and appeared to be, for the most part, healthy.

She planned to send some of the bodies to South Dakota State University for testing, until she got a phone call from officials with the United States Department of Agriculture that solved the mystery.

"They said they had poisoned the birds about 10 miles south of Yankton, and they were surprised they came to Yankton like they did.

Interesting.
