I've heard it said that anyone who posts a serious topic in Apple Talk deserves what they get. I can see the wisdom in this, but I don't give a fuck. I'm here to spout, and if you don't like it, hit the fucking back button now. Alternatively, you can pick a fucking fight over it, and we can merrily screech at each other for weeks. Either way is okay, because - as the man said - I'm up for any program!
A little board history: Ranting originally took place in Apple Talk, back when there were only two boards (Principia Discussion and Apple Talk). A few of us had started spouting, and suddenly there was a new board for it. This was cool for about 4 months, when I asked why OKM had been created. I was told, basically, that our rants were getting in the way of all the cookies and pie/tequila stabbity stabbity posts that at that time defined Discordianism. Still, the rants went on, though they never really had the bite they had in the very beginning.
And there's a reason for that.
OKM made rants safe. You have a certain mindset when you click on OKM...You're mentally prepared for, and therefore resistant to, the rants you read there. Well, here's the deal: Safe rants are fucking GARBAGE. They are nothing more than public masturbation. The same rant that would blow your socks off if you AREN'T ready for it merely inspires mittens when you ARE. You might as well fart under a blanket. Do you rant to the cat? Do you only rant to close friends? No, of course you fucking don't. You rant IN PUBLIC, with your BARE FACE HANGING OUT, braying your spittle onto anyone unfortunate enough to stand next to the berserkrgang that you have - if you're doing it right - become for the moment.
So I think that I'm going to keep on ranting here, and if this bothers your sense of order, please route complaints through Sister Fracture or Charley, because I won't be able to hear you over the clanging of my big brass balls. No shit, they're fucking huge, I had to have a special holster made for them so they don't abrade my ankles.
All of you have huge fucking balls, too, when you want to.
So, yeah, my next point: If Apple Talk can be plastered with the horrid details of all of our personal lives, if it can have news and political threads that could have also gone into Aneristic Delusions, then by God there's room for a little hate shitting. You may not like it, but then again some people might not enjoy the utter downer that the Open Bar thread has become. There's the short and fucking skinny of it: You post whatever the hell YOU want to post, and I'm going to post whatever the hell I want to post, and those who don't like it can follow the suggestion in the title. YOU post the saga of your day-to-day lives, and I post windy fucking rants about whatever the hell is crawling around the inside of my fucking skull.
This ain't 2004, and none of the admins are Lauren. The days of stabbity-stabbity facerapingbats Discordianism died with Hugh, may he rot in whatever hell he's built for himself. Anyone who WANTS to rage from inside a cage is more than free to do so...I choose otherwise.
So now, you terrible fuckweasels of my interbutts, you just step on in here and give me what I deserve. Come on, if you're fucking hard enough. I've got all Goddamn year and intestines so full of hate, they bulge like Goddamn diseased bratwursts.
Or Kill Me.
A special thanks to Badbeast for helping me find my rage.
I... I....
RAAARGE!
I am the Reverend Asshat and I approve of this message.
I will be happy to accept any and all complaints.
Sweet merciful fuck, Roger. That was some angry work.
And I agree, mostly. I take it that this is what you meant when you said me/Sister Fracture's rants were caged?

Yep.
I'm not saying you have to rant in Apple Talk. I'm saying YOU RANT WHEREVER YOU FUCKING PLEASE, whether that be in Apple Talk, OKM, or fucking Discordian Recipes.
Ranting is fucking sacred, but not in the kind of sacred that's locked away from the masses, like poor Vatican Jesus...It's the kind of sacred that the FIGHTING JESUS clove to. That's really all there is to it.

Fair enough. The Holy Man hath spoken truth.
FUCK. YES. That is all.
Hmm, good to know a bit of forum history. I wasn't aware OKM was some kind of ghetto.
I have a soft spot for that ghetto, though. It's probably got a lot to do with growing up in New Bedford.

Good point, the only reason I would be concerned is from the tech point of view wish more then just tech stuff concerned me because I feel like I'm becoming something of a 40k Servator. The practical problem of having rants here is that OKM has never been pruned, but apple talk is.
Now I know I'm a fool but I get the hoarding mentality on rants, I want to preserve them, but from what you're saying now I also don't want them to turn into lifeless trophies in a butterfly case forum.
It creates a bit of a dilemma that I'm trying to work out, roll on a year and I'll be coming close to pruning where the spider letters are located, my plan was to move them and collect them in a showcase forum, but perhaps thats not the best move. It would be effectively saying that they have run their course, that there is nothing more to be added, which may not be the best solution.

I have no problem with a "best of" forum, for when a thread plays out.
I was the person who said anyone who posts a rant in Apple Talk deserves what they get, though what I meant by that was not that people shouldn't post rants here, but that if people respond in a flip manner that they should expect it in some sense. Anyway, having said that, I was also not aware that OKM was used as a ghetto, or that rants originated in Apple Talk. Anyway, I would just like to say that when I said that I never expected anyone to abide by what I said... please please please rant away, anywhere and everywhere.

All of us can take a hint from this. Get pissed with a reason, spout it with passion, and wave that fuckign soiled santorum rag right where everyone can smell it. I realize that words are our primary offensive weapon. However we are under little or no compulsion, other than peer pressure, to adhere to words, strongly worded or not. Like Blackstone, I do think there are some things required to maintain civility. Having said that, when civility is no longer an option then it is time to climb a tree, shake the limbs to the breaking point and scream like we are being eaten alive.

Maybe the description of this subforum should be more commensurate to what folks see this as (and this can be discussed as a forum as a whole or amongst the powers that be, I don't give a fuck). When I first came on here, I noticed this was the chatty place with no holds barred on what topic goes where, and the other places were more sacro-sanct in that regard. I am not sure that's a terribly bad thing, as the fucking around in someone else's thread (which is tolerated here and at our "other haunts" as a collective) happens more with us than any other board/forum collective I've seen.
There's places on the 'net that ban your ass or delete your posts for such things--and we've all seen it and fuck yeah even relied on it to troll other groups.
So maybe a redifining of AT is in order? Or Yatto's idea of mixing up the order on the main page? I dunno.

Maybe the description of this subforum should be more commensurate to what folks see this as (and this can be discussed as a forum as a whole or amongst the powers that be, I don't give a fuck).
I said this recently, but it bears repeating, I totally agree. We should make the forum descriptions on the Index page as descriptive as possible of the stuff we want to see in our subforums.
I think it's because us regulars, we zoom right past those descriptions, don't even see them. But think about it, if you're new at another forum, before even digging into the threads, what's the first thing you check to get a feel for the place? The descriptions, of course. And you can't expect a subforum stick to a "theme" or topic by having a nonsensical description and hoping that the content of the subforum itself will represent what should be posted there. Because that way lies memetic mutation, and it'll just drift, most probably into inane chatter because that's what averages tend to drift to over the course of time.
That said, I dunno what the descriptions should say. Especially the Apple Talk one because apparently people have strong opinions about that, where I don't have very much.
I AGREE WITH THE GOOD FUCKING REVEREND ROGER! Rant wherever you damn well please!
However, I also agree with Hoopla, if you post in Apple Talk... if you post ANYTHING in Apple Talk, don't be surprised if there are flippant, silly, nonsense responses. For a Discordian board, we tend to have a very low level of straight up pinealism... in large part because we encourage it to stay in Apple Talk.
Some (maybe many) Discordians still have a little pineal in them (yes, I know that sounded dirty). It tends to leak out in Apple Talk.
So I encourage both viewpoints. No one should ever feel constricted on where they want to post, or what they want to post (yes, even if thats something pineal in OKM)... However, they should also realize that no responses are constricted to be SRS or even on topic... especially in particular subforums.
If I post a rant in Apple Talk, I'd expect some nonsense. If I post a Pineal post in OKM, I expect to get shit for it.
