I just checked - The Stage Coach Inn (http://rentstagecoachinn.com) is still available for Memorial Day Weekend.
If we're interested, this would be the breakdown...
$350 per night
gets us 5 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms.
If we end up having 10 people (off the top of my head ... me, eve, suu, richter, trip, torte, squid, mr. squid, rat, sjaante) --- that's only $35 per night apiece. If we end up spilling over, there's probably enough crash space in the living room that we could fit some more people in.
and look at this sweet grill space:
BAD ASS
---PLEASE NOTE: this doesn't exclude hanging out in providence too!
I'll be happy to reserve the house. What I need is a list of who's
definitely in for this idea. Optimally we want 10 people. More people are totally welcome if they want to come, we just can't guarantee you a bed. If for some reason we end up with dozens of people who want to get in, I'm betting we can get a discount at the main Inn because we'll be bringing a big group.
If we end up with fewer than 10 people, we can just rent the lower floor (2 bedrooms) for $150 a night, or the upper floor (3 bedrooms) for $250 a night.
So far, the following people have said HELL YEAH
Me
Squid
Mr. Squid
Richter
Schwarzwälderkirschtorte
Triple Zero
Added: Cainad
Added: Luna
Added: Cuttleface
Added: Suu
Added: Ratatosk
Added: Sjaante
I've gotten a
Maybe from the following people:
Eve
Suu's Sister & Brother
Who else would like to get in on this bad ass room rental?
AND
should we rent it out for 1 or 2 nights?
The Memorial Day meet up will include lounging around, grilling, beers, possibly exploring spooky places in New England, and Suu would like to take us on a guided tour of butt town I mean providence. Even if you don't want to stay at the inn, I'd love to have a big PD meet up at a place we've rented in the middle of nowhere. After this snowy snowy winter, I want nothing more than to kick out the jams with you spaglords in the springtime.

edit: updated RSVP list
I have a little money put aside for an emergency like this. I can swing 35 bucks.
I'm sure I wasn't on the short list, but just to confirm that I won't be able to swing it. Money of course not the issue. The issues being family stuff planned for that weekend and also that it is in Connecticut. ;)
I can't guarantee anything until I'm registered for summer classes and get a general idea of what my financial aid is going to look like for the summer. I'll also just be coming back from the Steampunk World's Fair the weekend before. I'm on staff, so everything is pretty much free but the fucking drive to and from New Jersey, which in it's self, could be a horrific ordeal. (FFS THIS TIME TAPPAN ZEE OR GTFO.)
I'm not really a yes or no or maybe as much as I am a "I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA". :(
Any other Sunday Monday I'd be able to get off, but nobody will be picking up my shift on Memorial Day. So clue me in to whatever spaggings go on in the area, maybe I can join in for those.
And you misspelled meatup.
Let me know when you guys have one of these thingies somewhere that isn't CT.

I'm not fond of that state either, but if we don't give it SOME attention every now and then, the tax rates start to seep across the border and they try taking chunks out of RI again.
Plus, people from that state are inherently rich, fat, and miserable because they're not cool enough to live in Manhattan even though they have the money for it and work there anyway. How Cram, Eve, D-Cup, Cainad, and the Mangrove clan appeared to have turned out unscathed the world will never know.
I don't know about the others, but Mang isn't a native Connecticunter, so I guess that helps. :D
Lived in CT long enough to really, REALLY appreciate NOT living there any more.
I do miss the comic book store, though.
Since my family moved to CT, I've technically spent more time living on Giant Turd Island than in CT.

FUCK YEAH LONGEYELAND.
I was born in New Hampshire! NH + CT is a winning combination, let me tell you.
I'm also in the "no fucking clue" category. It's too early for me to request the weekend off, but I'll do my best.
I can respect that people are uncertain about whether or not they can swing it. The constraint here is that we need to get definite yesses in order to reserve the inn. I really don't want to get stuck paying for the whole thing if it turns out people can't make it.
If we don't have three definite Yesses (I'm counting Dimo in the total yes pile now) by the end of next week, we'll probably just rent out one floor. I'd really like to get both though, so we can have our own private space to be total spagwads with nobody watching.
also, do you guys have thoughts on doing this for one day vs two days? I'd be leaning towards two days - that way we can get in a lot of spooky CT exploration and then crash out together that evening.
I couldn't do 2 nights. Not with work and school. You all do not need to see Suu doing homework. No no NO. There have been anthropological studies done on the techniques of my book throwing.

I'm in as deinite YES for the two days. I know a folks from the area too, so if spags bail on us, I'm confident we can still summon epic shennanigans.
Count me as a definite "yes." School's out for me the week prior.
If something happens that results in me not being able to make it (i.e. my parents spring a family weekend on me by surprise), Cram, make sure I have your mailing address and I'll send you a check for my share of a two-evening rent. Consider it my spiritual tithe for a Holy Discorjan Meatup or some shit.
Yeah, let us know if worst case spag-bailing happens. It would not be cool for this all to hit you. Personally, I know enough people in the area that we can call in a buttload of shennanigans to spite those who abandoned us if need be.
Put me down as a maybe inclined towards a yes.
put me down as "no, but if I happen to not be out at sea that weekend and am in New England, I'll come by and throw stinkbombs through the windows and leave obscene flyers under the windshield wipers of your cars."
Please count me in, my car will be repaired by then and I'll gladly take any excuse to get out of town and hang out with you guys for a weekend!
Concerning a two day stay: I can swing the 35 bucks, but probably not the 70. If we get enough spags to more-than-cover it, I am totally down for two days.
Also, I may need to hitch a ride with one of you Providence spags.
Scratch that. I can do the 70 if need be.
We'll get you there.

I might not be going out to sea again until July, and I can't leave my truck parked in Maine that long so I might try to coincide my drive back with this meetup if time and finances permit.

Where?
quick question
Friday / Saturday night?
or
Saturday / Sunday night?
(monday is a holiday, obviously)
Saturday/Sunday night.
Friday night we're going to a bar in Pawtucket. This is written.
Also, when would be have to check in/out? These times are important.
Agreed, Saturday & Sunday night is good.
ATTENTION EVERYBODY
The Stage Coach Inn is Reserved for Discordian Memorial Meat Up 2011!
We have it for May 28 - May 29th (Saturday and Sunday night)
The total cost is $700. I just dropped a non-refundable $175 deposit, so I need to start getting money from ye spags.
Cancellation Policy - I pray that this doesn't come up, but here's the gist of it: If we cancel after the 20th, we will pay the full cost.
Check in: We need to call them in advance and let them know when we're coming in. They can check us in NO LATER THAN 7 PM. But that should be fine, I plan on getting there early on Saturday.
:fuckyeah:
Cram, how would you like to recieve $$$ ? I can provide dirty envelopes full of well handled bills, bundles of weird white powder, checks, imigrants, "favors", paypal, steel, worked bone goods, or shoggoths.
PM with your preffered method!
I guess paypal? Paypal charges a small transfer fee, so if you could tuck in an extra two bucks that would be sweet.

Now we need to figure out when the out of towners are coming into Providence so we can work on housing them before we go to CT.
Add me to definite, and add my sister AND my brother to tentative.
...I apologize in advance, but at least my brother is a chef.
So here's what we have to work out:
Who is definitely in? I think the Stage Coach Inn can sleep 10 - probably 12 if people don't mind doing the couch or sleeping bag thing.
Here's the definite list, coupled by bedroom
1. Me
2. ??? (probably eve or cainad, but I am reserving the possibility that I may bring a lady friend?)
3. Squid
4. Mr. Squid
5. Richter
6. Suu
7. Schwarzwälderkirschtorte
8. Triple Zero
9. Ratatosk
10. Sjaante
11 Luna
12 Cuttleface
13 Cainad
IT IS TOTALLY COOL if more people want to come - but we'll have to get rooms at Captain Grant's. They list their Spring Rates as $89 to $159 ( if you split it, that's still pretty cheap for a hotel room) - there's a chance we can sweet talk them into the cheap side of that since we're renting the entire Stagecoach Inn..
My brother and my sister both just started new jobs, and my sister just went back to working her MLB shifts, so she doesn't know just yet. My brother just called me back and told me thanks but no thanks, even though he said he would out drink Richter anyday.
Awww man. Someone's gotta document this meetup so I can enjoy it vicariously.
I should mention that my sister said that if she DOES come, she calls dibs on a closet or bathtub to sleep in. This is perfectly normal.
How long does it take to get from Providence to this place in CT?
Also from there so NY and/or Boston?
Is there public transport for this??
My futon is officially rescued and installed. So, without hitting the floor, my apartment can hold two (if they're friendly) on the futon, one or two on an oversized cot (even more friendly than the futon), and one in the double-sized papasan. (I will testify that THAT is darn comfy if you can sleep curled up.) That's not counting floor space if you bring sleeping bags.
Downsides, I haz no parking, so this'll work for people coming in via mass transit, or willing to park and pay somewhere. Also, side note, my landlord DOES live directly under me, and has his kids on and off, so has requested that the noise be kept down after 10 PM.
This is going to rock so hard I may pee blood.

From Providence a little over an hour. Add an hour to that from Boston. From NYC about 3 hours.
Nearest train stations would be Mystic or New London about 20min away. Buses can be taken to Foxwoods if necessary.
Unfortunately, CT is a dark pit of despair that has a problem WITH LABELING THEIR
ROADS CLEARLY OR
UPDATING GPS SATELLITES so I'd recommend you DON'T try to get there by yourself. Let one of the locals come and pick you up or something.

Connecticut also has fuzz buster-busters. So you drive all paranoid-like, unable to find the exit/road you need so you get lost and then have to pay CT tax on gasoline (usually 25 cents+ more than RI), which is atrocious. The state is fucking evil.

Don't take any days off yet we know when the Dutchspags/Floridaspags/Ohiospags are actually planning to arrive. The last thing we all need is to lose money/vacation days for no reason.
So far Friday night is German Club, Saturday night is in CT, and Sunday all day and night in CT. That leaves all day Monday, Most of the day Saturday, and possibly Thursday and Friday before that to plan out.
I say Thursday and Friday because anyone who plans on flying on a Saturday is stupid. You will save a hundred bucks at least by flying on Thursday. Seriously, those coming in on domestic carriers, look at Thursday-Tuesday, not Saturday-Monday, especially on a holiday.

It's not. It's called Amtrak.
Or Peter Pan.
Or Megabus.
Just don't take the Greyhound, it may be cheaper but it's twice as long of a ride.
Either way, it's only a 3hr tour of Connecticut's industrial shoreline. Just remember if you book a bus ticket to get it to Providence Kennedy Plaza, which is downtown, NOT the terminal.
Also: Did you look at flights into Boston?
Fares SHOT THE FUCK UP into Green because the airlines and airport are playing games to get the city of Warwick (LOLNOTPROVIDENCE!) to expand the runway. It used to be the way to fly, now Logan is cheaper, especially with JetBlue service (Don't bother flying Southwest, the prices are the same to Providence. I just checked.)
Don't fly into Manchester or Bradley (Hartford), no one will hear you scream.
Well since it's not actually a Sunday/Monday thing like I thought, I can definitely make it for Saturday. Pssh, sleeping bag on the porch. ;D
I'd be alright with doing that if the place is cool with it, and of course chip in so as not to mooch.

Try to make it. So we can face each other and vigorously punch each other in the balls.

This can be arranged. Do you demand a flat wall, or can we use a column for easier taping?

I propose a wager of sorts.
For every time you punch me in the balls and I don't make a noise, you buy me a shot.
Won't you just get better at it with more shots?
Don't test him!
Damn, now I wish my brother could come.
We could have an epic East Coast Hustle VS Gulf Coast Hustle IRON CHEF MEMORIAL DAY BBQ!
Idle suggestion, if we add a few more people, leave the price where it is, use the extra cash for booze and food?
I was going to suggest the same thing.
I also suggest that if anyone wants me to bartend, I expect to be tipped. There will be sheets of paper and pens. You will write your tip and put them in the jar. Later, when we are all drunk, I will read the tips.

Shit, I'm gonna have to get that new camera by this, make sure I have a pile of extra batteries, and just set it to video all weekend...
Assuming, that since Preston is close to Norwich, there should be a Stupid Stop and Steal nearby. We should try to buy as much as possible in RI and MA though, to save precious taxes going into the hands of money grubbing Connecticunts.

If a keg is an actual consideration, I think CT carries Yeungling, which is probably comparably priced to PBR and definitely way tastier.
We MAY have to go to NY for Yeungling.

Hrm. Menu. Who's bringing what, and what else are we gonna need? Shopping lists.
When are we getting there? Saturday, so... lunch, dinner, Sunday breakfast, lunch, dinner, Monday breakfast?
Cooking/cleanup duties?

My bad. Making shit up as we go works, too.
This is exactly what's going to happen:
"Shit guys, we need to go food shopping."
"Um, okay, you two go, heres money."
*2 hours later*
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH 3 10LB PORK SHOULDERS?!?!?!"
"What AREN'T we going to do with them?!"
It looks like about two hours to the NY border, anybody actually going to drive four hours for beer when they could be at the house watching RCH being duct-taped to a wall? Or is anybody coming from that direction who might be convinced to stop?
We may be able to get a keg of a local cheap. I think the last kegger we had we got a keg of Long Trail, we'll have to ask Saturnine about that one.
And by local, I DO NOT MEAN NARRAGANSETT. If you want Gansett, it can only be brought in 16oz tall guy cans. No bottles, no kegs.
We may be able to score Newport Storm Amber, and that's a decent beer. Basic, but no fuss, and it's sure as hell better than fucking Narragansett. Mass has a few...Harpoon and Sam won't be cheap, but we can look at Wachusett. Long Trail is VT, so is Magic Hat, Switchback and Otter Creek. NH has Woodstock Inn, and Maine has a few.
Connecticut doesn't have breweries, only sewage treatment plants. You're better off drinking right from the Thames.
I drank the fucking Thames too. Couldn't feel my legs after that.
Chores: Yeah, disorganization rules. I will figure out a HILLARIOUS act to perform on whever hasn't helped with something after 3 meals have been served.

Definitely, extra batteries for the camera.
It pains me to ask, but can we move this conversation to the Trip's Trip thread? I don't want the $$ and important details to get buried under discussion until we're sure Rat and Trip have seen it.
We may need to make a sticky thread for planning and keep the first post updated with people, their arrivals, and the itinerary.

I didn't get counted in the original signup? Dammit. If there's still space available I'd love to tag along. I have a sleeping bag and I don't mind pulling up a patch of floor. I can definitely attend Saturday/Sunday and I'll bring booze and baked goods with me.
Just because a house "sleeps" 10, that doesn't mean that you can't shove more people into the room.
-Suu
Remember, most hotel rooms only "sleep" 4.

Ok I just read this. Sorry guys I've been having a nasty cold the past week (not so much nasty as fucking persistent, it won't go away!!) so I've been unable to keep up with a lot of stuff.
I'll get the payment stuff sorted ASAP, this week, probably before Thursday. I think Paypal will work.
Squiddy, you say you're landing in NY before the weekend? Because us too, except a few days/week earlier I suppose. But no, wait, if we're going out with Suu on Friday, that means we'll already have left NY by then. Ok I really gotta sit down and plot some dates and locations tomorrow with my GF whether my head's full of snot or not (and yes I'll post them).
I'm really not good at figuring out all this planning (placenames and distances and such are slowly getting less confusing though), and Kirschtorte--while brilliant at planning holidays--is not as fluent in English as me.
I might have ignored or missed some important questions in between the chatter, so maybe you (Suu/Cram/Squid) can re-ask the important things you really are itching to know? I'll try to answer them as best as possible tomorrow. Also, I dunno, would a Teamspeak session perhaps be useful to clear up and decide on some stuff? Or maybe a one-on-one Skype talk would be better cause Teamspeak gets kinda chaotic, right?

They pay their own way, and I tape them to the wall. How's that for putting them up?
But if they are very strict about capacity, and someone else really wants to go, I'll bow out. I have schoolwork anyway.
Zippletits: Let me know what time you want to Skype. I need to reinstall it, myself. I wish my German fluency was better for you guys. :(
Um, tomorrow I have class and then work, so I'll be out after 4pm my time. So it will be very late for you, however, Thursday I can get on during my afternoon here as I have no morning class, so I'm out of work at 12:30pm.
If you have a landline phone number, we can also call that with Skype, rates are real cheap for calling landlines all over the world. We'll do that tomorrow then. And speaking English is no problem for her, so don't worry about the German (you can practice on her when we meet, though).
Kirschtorte will be back home today and tomorrow at 16.30 our time / 10.30 your time. I hope I can catch Cramulus on IRC today, (but you're usually online during that time, right Cram?).
I talked to her this morning in the short bit between waking up and her leaving for work and it seems we're both unclear on what the plan actually is, for the whole weekend, but on different bits, and right now it's really stressing me out. And this is just a few days of the time we'll spend in the USA. It'll probably all be fine.
There will be NO SHORTAGE of awesome that we will provide for our visitors here in New England. The house is just a highlight.
I've decided that I definitely want to come. I'll see if Villager is down also, which will solve the problem of me getting there.
Why for I get bumped off list? I is definite.
you are #12 on that list

Oops. So used to being reffered to as Dimo. I didn't notice...
Also, lol cuddleface.
Cram- how much would you like from stragglers like me? I saw some talk about it a couple of posts ago, but not sure if you weighed in.
Stragglers: If you're sleeping over, you've got two options
1) ask Suu / Richter if you can crash on their floor
2) get a room in Capt. Grant's Inn (which is the main Bed and Breakfast building.. we're renting the stage coach inn, owned by the same people, right next door)
I'm hesitant to start taking money from people if we can't guarantee you space, and we've already got two or people sleeping in the living room. I mean I'm sure we CAN cram more people in there, but I am not volunteering people's floorspace - especially if they're traveling 1000+ miles to get here.
edit to add: It sounds like we have a number of stragglers... I bet we can get a group rate at Captain Grant's.
Once I'm sure that Capitalism Points have been deposited into my Cyberspace Piggy Bank, I'll PayPal you the funds, Cram.
*glances upthread* $70 for both nights, got it.
I'm cool with people using floorspace wherever I'm occupying room. I'm keeping the bed though, and please leave a clear path to the john. I have been known to snore.
Floor space in my room will also be available.
Just know:
I have a weird sleeping disorder, don't ask, you'll find out
Mr Squid snores REAL BAD (i mean bad. doesn't help my sleeping AT ALL)
Also- Cram, would you like your money via paypal or can I hand you a wad of cash when I get there?

Either is fine!
I have no problems with people on the floor. Just remember that I can have snore wars with Mr. Squid, that is, until this country seems fit to give me health insurance so I can have my adenoids removed and the scar tissue on my tonsils scraped off.

HAY I finally passed my intro period at work (yesterday) and can actually request time off. So I'll get on that, and maybe steal that ??? spot with Cram? Wishful thinking?
I also have a few surprisingly comfortable air mattresses for floor people. Or possibly myself, depending on how that all works out/if Cram wants to bring a lady friend (or a Cainad).
I also have a queen sized double high air mattress I can bring. Shit, I'll sleep on it myself.

Okay... just got off the phone with the hotel
They said that we can check in at any time. :)
They said that check-OUT time is 11 AM, strict. So we'll have to do all our memorial day grilling on Sunday.
And when I booked reservations they forgot to mention Tax. So the cost of the hotel is actually $784, not $700.
