Missed it. PDQ?
I was too distracted by the Mars stupid, and the Moon stupid. Sure, we got our moon different than Mars, but uh, you know, Mars has sunrise and sunset too, almost with the exact same frequency Earth has....
There are moons with similar size ratios to ours on the dwarf planets too, big (relative to the planet) moons don't seem unusual.

Saturn's got a shit load of moons and gets sunrise more often than we do.
Also, obligatory answer:
Stellar nursery that solar winds destroyed billions of years ago put it there.
Impact collision put it there.
This is not something that you couldn't find out without a quick google search, backed up by pretty good evidence.

PDQ? What's that mean?
If you want to know where abouts it is, its just after the 2:45ish mark iirc.
Doesn't Bill O have at least one science nerd on his staff who can coach him on this shit? I mean, the fucking camera guy or the telemprompter guy should be able to set him straight.
Not seeing the nod but this is about the funniest shit I've seen all week. Thank you.
Not really a Discordian nod... Simply using the word "chaotic" doesn't count.
But still really damn funny.
Weren't there a bunch of bona fide Colbert nods y'all had on video somewhere? Where'd those go?
ColbertGASM. In the GASM subforum.
Nod or no, it's definitely funny. Never a miscommunication.
It's a rare thing when I find Colbert not funny.
Hell, I even liked him in Strangers With Candy.

varying degrees of explicit discordia -- or signal confirmation -- anybody's guess :fnord:

The collection of chaotic energy with no meaning bit? Hmmm I don't think that every time someone on TV mentions the word "chaos", it's a nod to Discordianism.
However, the bit about the Hot/Cold faucets and miscommunication ("H/C can never be trusted") obviously is a straight reference to the last part of the
Schroedinger's Cat Trilogy.
That was in Illuminatus, no? The HC thing? Harry Coin, et al?
Yes but also in SC. And afaik the revelation of its connection with Hot/Cold taps on faucets came from SC.

I will check tonight.
It seems like a bit of a stretch.. but maybe not that much. Keep in mind that Colbert is a fan of Robert Anton Wilson, and at least one member of his staff is a card carrying Discordian. They know that Discordians are looking for signals and code words (this has been confirmed first hand) so it's not unreasonable that they slip an obscure reference in every now and then to see if anybody's paying attention.

Not arguing, just curious... I didn't keep up with ColbertGASM after the initial couple posts.
How do we know he is a fan of RAW?
How do we know a member of the staff today is a Discoridan?
And, how do they know Discordians are looking for signals and code words?
Maybe read the thread? It should all be there.
I was hoping not to have to read the entire thread. Nevermind.
'PDQ' = 'pretty damn quick'
never heard it mean anything other than that, myself.

A Quote Involving Stephen Colbert
so my buddy has a friend who is a writer for Stephen Colbert. My buddy relayed this story to me:
The writer was sitting at her desk, reading some conspiracy theory lit
and Colbert walks by and asked if she ever read Illuminatus
she lies and says No
(she is a Discordian, after all)
so six months later, Colbert walks by and sees Illuminatus on her desk
he says "beware illuminatus, that way madness lies"
she says "you recommended it to me."
he says "I'm sorry."
there are a lot of blanks in that story but there are certain things I was asked not to say publicly.. PM incoming
Thanks Cram - you rock!

DYING to know.
Ok, this is totally surreal. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFc8vmIkr9k&feature=related)
The o'reilly clip is hilarious.
But my first thought about what you (Lies) call a Discordian nod was that it was a nod to Sartre, with its atheist existentialist tones. Except of course Sartre would have added that there is meaning in life, but only the meaning we give it, no "meaning-in-itself".
Spot the Discordian Nod(s):

The
Sinbad and the Seven Seas movie was a wonderful, if a bit fanciful (I'm impressed they fit a Cthulhu cameo in there), re-telling of how the Erisian Church illuminated Hassan i Sabbah (yup,
Sinbad is one of his aliases... _that's_ a new take on those stories for some of you, I'm sure...).

No, I meant that as: "This is as close as discordians get to seeing jesus in the dog's asshole: looking for the all-seeing-eye in Banksy's Krylon leavings."
