This thread is for the logistics and planning of the Big Ass Discordian Meetup in New England, May 2011. Feel free to ask questions or make amendments, but please keep this thread free of random chatter so it's easy to find the info in it.
EDIT TO ADD: Gathering took place! Pix here: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=29348.0
Rough Schedule:
Friday, May 20th
Triple Zero and Kirchetorte arrive in New York
Friday, May 27th
Triple Zero, Kirchetorte, and Cramulus drive from Tarrytown NY to Providence RI for Beers.
Camping at: Suu, Richter, or Luna's house?
Optional: LARP in south CT
Saturday, May 28th
Check-In at the Stage Coach Inn (http://rentstagecoachinn.com/).
Here is the list of "definites"
1. Me
2. Eve
3. Richter
4. Luna
5. Cuttlefish
6. Blight
7. Schwarzwälderkirschtorte
8. Triple Zero
9. Cainad
10. Leln
Possibly: St Mae and Fox (Metaphorge) DCup and her boything
Ducked Out: Mr & Mrs Squid, Ratatosk and Sjaante, Suu, Suu's BF
Additional people should probably stay at Captain Grant's (http://captaingrants.com/), right nearby. Talk to me first, I bet we can negotiate a group rate. But we need to do this soon because it'll fill up fast as we approach memorial day.
Monies: The inn is $70 apiece for both nights. Cram is being a superhero and putting it on his card, so hit him with $$ ASAP! Paypal Addy: t a r g e t r e f AT yahoo.com (but without the spaces)
PLEASE NOTE: this rate may go up due to people flaking out at the last minute. We'll have to figure that out when we get there.
We will start a pool for foods and beers.
What are we doing on Saturday?
Meat. Grill. Maybe some dice. Shit, let's get a keg.
Suggestion: Beer is probably best handled by the boston or providence contingent, because liquor stores in CT will be closed Sunday/Monday. (we'll need to return the keg once we've drained it)
Sunday, May 29th
Hanging out at the inn.
Visiting spooky places in CT? (like Jesusland?)
Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day)
Checking out of the Inn @ 11 AM.
We'll probably have to come up with something to do after that.
Edit to remove suggestion, no longer needed.
My apartment can fit several people, as well, no parking for cars. Got a futon that'll hold two, an oversized cot that'll hold one comfortably, two if you're petite and real friendly. The papasan holds one very comfortably (I crash in it, myself, occasionally). Also, floor space.
My apartment can sleep 3-4.
It looks like Friday I may meet the Squids in Boston and get them down to Providence. Monday we could spag around Providence, everyone will be at the beach so the city should, for the most part, be quiet. I know I may have piqued some interest about HP Lovecraft's dead bits.
I plan on playing good host and taking both Friday and Tuesday off to help the travelers get to where they need to go within the Providence/Boston Corridor. So for those coming in through the NYC airports (There are 3) go through Cram for travel needs. For anyone flying into Providence Warwick (TF Green) or Boston (Logan), go through me. I fly a lot out of both airports, sometimes 3-4 times a year, so I know what bus or train to take and when to get to where.
DO NOT RENT A CAR. Between all of us there SHOULD be enough transportation, and driving in downtown Providence or Boston is guaranteed to make you sterile. Driving in New York City is guaranteed to cause prolapse. Richter, Luna, and I all live within walking distance of downtown Providence (Richter and I are technically considered downtown), and with downtown, comes the trains and buses, and I can get a Zipcar when we need extra wheels. PLEASE save your money (and your sanity.) People drive very differently here than they do in Florida and Ohio...but something tells me we're comparable to Europe...
Whoa--I hadn't noticed this thread yet, for some reason! Getting organized, awesome :)
I'll just edit and add stuff to this post, in order to keep things a bit clean.
For completeness:
Quote from: Schwarzwälderkirschtorte on February 16, 2011, 06:59:29 PMThis is our flight schedule:
arrival: fr 20/05 19:00h New York (JFK) JF Kennedy
departure: fr 10/06 14:05h New York (JFK) JF Kennedy
Maybe the Squids should post their times as well?
Hey Crambone, I just sent you my monies.
I have to wait a couple of weeks before I can book anything.
But I'll edit this post when I eventually do.
edit- this is killing me, I have to say it.
I've driven in NY and the only drivers you need to be worried about are the ones with FL tags. I'll take a NY driver over one of these old men in baseball caps any day.

I would put a delete button :craig: here if i knew HOW:
This past weekend I talked to the German exchange student living with the Z's. I told him that we were having visitors from the Netherlands and Germany, and he got excited. He said it would be nice to speak German again, he thinks he forgot how. LOL.
Villager will probably not be able to make it which means that I will have to work out lodging/crashing and transportation with you guys.

Im randomly diving in for a bit here to comment on drivers.
I live in south Florida.
Where speed limits and stop lights are more like suggestions.
I got a ride with my friend to the beach one day- 90mph in a 65mph zone, ran 3 red lights, and I don't know how many stop signs.
I can only imagine what driving in south America is like. (he moved here from venezuela a few months ago)

It's a function of having retirees from all over the country. Tucson is the same way.
Too bad I have to be in two different states already on Memorial wknd.
I want to meat you.
I want you to meat me.
Heh.
Considering how this is a month away, we should actually plan stuff.
Is the house even paid for?
Cram can confirm for certains. IIRC: he threw down the card for it. People should Paypal him if they haven't already.
We should:
-Bring beer.
-Games
-Oh yeah, food? I'm happy to do some mass cooking action, depending what sort of kitchen facilities we have. If no stoves, we could still do great with a few slow cookers for chili or stew. If there's a grill or fire pit, we need to use that too.
-Whatever else we end up doing.
I need to grab a bat and a ball, for sure.
And if people can't go that were on the original list, they need to speak up like, now, so we can get the slots filled, like EoC, because I know he wants to come.
http://rentstagecoachinn.com/amenities.html
Kitchen and grill, check.
I spoke with Cram recently, he knows I'm interested and I believe he said Squid and Mr. Squid won't be able to make it. I'll be hitting him with the cash shortly for a room.
Okay cool.
I don't know if I can pitch in more money if need be. Unfortunately this whole, "NO SCHOOL MONEY FOR SUMMER" isn't exactly conducive to my eating habits, or ability to pay rent for that matter, and I may have to pick up a 3rd part time job to get me through July. Push comes to shove, I may have to bow out.
000 and 000GF are still in, of course :)
food/kitchen/cooking/etc count me the fuck in, I love cooking :D not very experienced with BBQ/grill/etc though, but I believe I'll be in the right country to learn that shit authentically :) IIRC there should indeed be a sort of huge BBQ/grill/device at the house.
We might arrive a bit earlier than most people (?). We've stayed in/around New York the week before that. Then we use public transport to get to Cramulus and drive to Preston with him in his car. That saves us renting a car for the first week :)
But on Friday (27th) we were going to the Ratskeller, right? Is that still on? (if there's doubts because of said money problems, that's okay--we were going to meet up with a bunch of spags, which will happen anyway).
(The Ratskeller is near Providence, right?)
However that means we are going to drive there on Friday, drink German beers, but we'll need a place to stay for me, 000gf, as well as Cramulus. That was the part I hadn't fully planned through yet..
---
Additionally, we're still looking for places to stay during the two weeks after the Memorial Day weekend--anywhere in the neighbourhood / New England would be fine really, we're just touristing around. Just trying to save on hostel/hotel costs, and of course it's always best to stay with the locals when travelling. Both me and 000gf are nice, clean and housebroken. If you can offer us a place to stay, please send me a PM or post it in this thread (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=28082.255) (since it's not specifically Memorial Day related, but also really important).
I have space for people to sleep Friday night. I do NOT have anywhere for a car to park, however, that would need to be worked out. If the Rathskeller is still on, awesome. It IS near Providence. It is the least expensive "go get beer" option that I know of, short of "grab a couple six packs, throw in a movie/grab some card/dice games, and chill." (This is also an option, here, however, my landlord DOES live directly below me, and has requested that things get quiet around 10 PM, since he has kids trying to sleep.)
I have a futon that sleeps two, my camp cot which will hold two if they're petite and friendly, and a papasan chair that holds one comfortably, if you don't stretch out when you sleep... So, 4-5 people, before starting to put people on the floor in sleeping bags, and I make NO promises about the hot water for showers in the morning.
ETA: If you have pet allergies, you're warned, I have two cats, one of which is likely to be very friendly.
I have an extra bed that sleeps 2. No pets, but a lot of sewing crap that may attack you in your sleep.
You know why Suu doesn't have a serger? Becasue I woke up one night and caught her old serger stroking my hair.
It was admiring your thread count.

I can vouch for awesomeness of said couch. But you need to also have warning of overload of cuteness from the inhabiting fuzzballs and, of course, Herbert's Encroaching Stuff™.
I mean, not that my stuff isn't encroaching, but at least there's a method to my madness.
I'm still down for it, I'll have to figure out what I'm doing on my end. I think Suu offered me a lift but I can't recall.

Sweet, yeah that shouldn't be a problem.
Also, which day should I come down? That Friday or the Saturday, and who should I crash with if crashing is still available?
Friday night is the German Club, should be a blast, come down for it. Suu, Richter, and I have space, nobody has specifically claimed anywhere as of yet, as far as I am aware.
Found out in this weekend that my guitarist's birthday is that weekend, so I'll have some beers with him on Friday and then head on down to Providence Saturday morning.
Just had a nice chat with Zip and the Kirschtorte on Skype!
They will be crashing here at my pad, and Cramulus will be choosing between the Monastery couch or my floor.
Damn it!
Wish I was close enough to go!
Since the Squids' can't make it, and I'm assuming Rat isn't coming as well due to his breakup with Sjaantze, Dartmouth Fett has expressed his interest, as long as everyone is cool with him coming along. He has no plans otherwise.
Cram, get your moustached ass in here and start reforming the listy bits on the first page so we can start finalizing!
And I'll also touch base with D-Cup and see if her and the boyfriend will be interested as well. When I talked to her at Boston Comic Con she seemed really interested, but it's her dad's b-day weekend. So if there's no plans with him, she'll be down. She was going to talk directly to Cram.
Ah right, I was meaning to ask Rat about that, but I completely forgot ... Ratatosk, how are your plans now?
Just shot Cram a FB post to get his bum in here.

Well yes.
Watch, in 2 weeks exactly, like, June 2nd, it will go from 60 and rainy to 95 and humid in HOURS, and stay that way through July. This is New England, we have a goddamn reputation to uphold.
Dunno about August so much. It will start in the 100s (as it normally does) and end in the 60s. It'll drop mid month and make everyone sick as usual. I've seen this pattern before. Then summer will come back in October.

Oh I know and I love it. As far as I'm concerned it can't be warm enough. And when it gets too hot and humid, there's a beach less than 10 miles away, and plenty of pools to crash between.
After a few summers in the Yucatan and Mexican gulf, there's no place here that will ever be too hot for me.

Mr. & Mrs. Suu under "ducked out" isn't right. Squids?
whoops! updated
I'll be around. Did we work out where the floaters like myself and dimo are staying? I'm not sure if that was figured out. I didn't book any rooms because at the time I was still trying to figure out if Villager would be able to come too (she can't)

You all can crash on the floor in Cainad's room. I think there's couches also. Leln will probably crash on the floor in the room with her bro and Luna, all convention style.

This is true. I hate that I have to be noncommittal but my finances are tight with all the shit I've got going on in the next two months. I can't ask for a spot to be reserved.

You guys got adapters for our plugs, right?
Yep, we got one of those.
One thing that remains to be seen is whether our mobile phones will work. I remember sometimes people from the USA couldn't use them here cause their phones use different frequency bands or something, but I'm not sure if it goes the other way around, too. Haven't had time to look it up, I know my phone says "dual band" while booting up, so that sounds promising, I guess :)
If not, we'll find a payphone or something. We'll *try* to send you a text message when we arrive :)
First night we'll stay at Cram's, so we can crash in a friendly place with a beer and a movie after all the travelling. Really awesome, much nicer than a hotel for climatizing a bit :D
Dartmouth Fett may not be coming now. He blew a tire this weekend, and then was told he needed to get all 4 replaced. Couple that with the fact he didn't work a full week last week, and his cash is going to be low. I offered to pay his way for the house, but a tank of gas isn't exactly at deep discounts right now.
If he can't make it, I may change my plans, but I'll still be around Friday night.
And now I am OFFICIALLY out.
I'll sell someone my space, if not I'll need a refund. I would have just donated it, but unfortunately with this latest upcoming bout of unemployment, I'm going to need all the money I can get.
On the plus side, I now have plenty of time to play tour guide to Trip and Torte. Hah.
some couch people have been bumped into rooms.
When we get there, we will have to see whether or not the cost is going up for everybody. It's a good thing there's a lot of you because SIX count em SIX people have canceled so far.
Sorry Cram :(
Believe me, I'd LOVE to be there.

Where are we at, now, if it's cost/10 people? Ballpark is fine, just rough planning.
Keep my fucking money. I don't care.
I do. How much is Suu's share? I'd like her to keep the lights on, fed, and the internet connection maintained.
Suu, what would you think about me covering part of what you owe, give it to you when I come down to Providence, and then I'll duck out myself? I could always meet up with you guys for a little bit in both Providence and Boston while both Trip and Schwarzkirchtorte are here.
There's no reason to duck out. It'll just piss off Cram more after what Roger and I already warned him about months ago.
It's not that I don't want to go, it's just that it's not financially fucking responsible of me to do it. Then again, neither was World's Fair, as the hotel was kind enough to suck a deposit off of my card I wasn't prepared for. I'll get that back in a few days, but that's not the point...
I feel like FUCKING SHIT that I have to duck out, trust me, but I'll still be at the bar on Friday. It's not like I planned to lose my job, I was planning to actually alter my life to start working full time. Well, fuck them.
Ok. I'll have to find out what I owe now, and who I'm riding with.

SO, it's in 3 days. What can we all bring/contribute?
EOC: OK
I have been writing this shit out while at work (not posting)
Camp chairs if you got 'em. Spaces to site are never bad.
Games
Music
Food: I think we'll make a grocery run once we're there. Does anyone have any dietary requirements or food allergies we should know?
So far I'm semi-head planning meals to include a non-meat bit (more serious than salad and bread), but speak up before the run if you want tofuburgers, non lactose/non gluten, vegan, or some such. (in fact, you better come along to make sure we mooks don't fuck it up.)
I will bring kitchen implements too.
Beer: Don't know if this warrants a keg, but maybe everyone contribute a 6 pack, or drink of choice, and some of us can pony up for more generic option?
(bigass sangria, 30 rack of common beers, etc?)
(If this is heresy, say so plz.)
I've got paper plates and plastic cups. We're gonna want plastic utensils. Site says the place is stocked with service for eight, so if we don't bring more, we're gonna be sharing forks.
Mushroom allergy, here. Nothing fatal, I'll just wish it was.

I refuse to eat aquatic life forms, they offend me. Happy eating vegetarian, happy eating warm blooded land creatures. Totally cool with spicy as Circle 6 of the Inferno, if that is a question of preparation.
Booze, I'm cool with BYOB. I could buy a bunch of Gansetts and cheap brandy and/or whiskey on the way and I'd be cool with that. Granted, those aren't my top choices, but, good booze can make a dent. If I have enough to spare, I would be willing to throw in for something a bit more palatable too.
Probably for the best I'm not going, I'm allergic to almost everything and can't trust you spags worth a damn to not feed me cow, plus, the Shoggoth has decided that it wants to come out and play 2 weeks early, good thing I'm going to the doctor tomorrow.
Other than that, yes, laid off. Yes, it sucks, and I appreciate everyone who has sent me messages asking what they could do and if they could pitch in moneys...it's all a nice gesture guys, but the answer is no. Yes, Cram already has my money, I will work with him to get it back. I need to pay rent next week, and frolicking and pissing away my once-disposable income this weekend isn't the best way to deal.
I could deal with this one of two ways, the most obvious is the "get blind drunk with your friends" way, but the correct motorcycle is, "Get your money back, hide it under your mattress, and go see DF, because he's practically suicidal this week after his ceiling collapsed/tire fell off car/fender bender (yeah that now, too) and it will cost you a quarter of what it will cost to rent the inn."
I've seen you all before, I even know where most of you LIVE. Triple Zero and Torte are crashing with me on and off for the duration of their stay in New England, so I'll have plenty of time to play tour guide and hang out with them. I adore you all, but right now, the best thing for me this weekend is to *sigh* be an adult, save my money, go see my chewtoy in NH, and relax.
I will be sending a Royal Decree with The Deacon Richter to be read on Sunday morning. You all have been warned.

I look forward to the decree (non-binding on me, as I'm representing the Barony of Greater Roxbury as opposed to the Principality ;) )
I'm bummed you won't be able to make it, suu -- but I totally understand. Send DF the best rejuvenation wishes from we spags - perform the Turkey Curse on our behalf. No that probably won't help. Perform the Titty Curse* instead.
For those of you who sent money and aren't coming - I will gladly refund you! I've been procrastinating on that because my paypal is a mess (lots of small transactions in/out over the past months), so I need to sit down and figure out exactly how much cash has come from who, who still owes money, that sort of thing.
EOC! Glad you're in! We is gonna have such a good time. I'm all tingly thinking about it.

this is going to be like the opening scene from Muppets in Space (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kokm6ACqvB8)... all sorts of crazy cartoon characters rocking out in one house.
We'll work out the details of who is sleeping where once we get there. My advice: bring bedding. I want to make sure that the people who are traveling the furthest have real beds, but a bunch of us are probably going to end up camping out slumber party style.
This is going to be the largest east coast Discordian meet up.... ever! Seriously, aside from west coast gatherings like Burning Man and EsoZone, I can't think of a time that more Discordians have been in one place at the same time. THIS WEEKEND WE MAKE HISTORY.
I can loan bedding to people for money.

I'm meeting up with Luna or Richter or someone at the commuter rail stop slightly after 11:10 am. So, I'm guessing Noonish, or a little after.
Hey guys, the tornadic system is moving into New England today. BE REALLY FUCKING CAREFUL DRIVING FROM NEW YORK TO RHODE ISLAND. Connecticut is flat and coastal, spouts will jump right off the Sound onto I-95.
See, this is what happens when there's a major PD.com meatup, and neither Roger nor Nigel gets to attend.
DOOM.
Either one of them would be more than welcome. I'm not sure quite what would happen if both came, though... We're on the coast, the concentrated awesome might cause the whole continent to tip and spill us all into the ocean...
DON'T DIE YOU GUYS!!!
You're lucky that I won't be there. Every time Squid and I hang out together in Florida, the state sinks a bit more below sea level.
To bring both Nigel and Roger in the same place as Squid and myself will violate all laws of physics.

We can check in as early as 11... I'm not sure what time we're going to peel ourselves off Suu's couches, but we'll only be about an hour away.
After we get there, we'll pool money and do groceries.
My bus to NH leaves at 8:15am whether ya'll are up or not, so I'll be up at 6:30 and out of the house by 7:45. The Dutch will have a set of keys.
Richter will retrieve you for breakfast at Luna's.
ETA of Dutchspags/Cram: 9-10pm Principality time.
They're coming right to my house, we will meet you in Pawtucket.
I may head to the ratskeller sooner. Suu, you still have my parking thingie?
Yep. I'll take care of them. We'll rendezvous at the bar.
Just wanted to pop in and say 1) stay safe 2) have fun and 3) there better be some fucking pix of this meatup.

Goodspeed--and a few spags look like they're always in motion! Cram, Trip, Richter, I'm lookin' at YUO.
No shit... Richter says, "everyone hand me twenty bucks, right now," and wallets appeared.
I hope someone is shouldering the responsibility of recording tons of embarrassing moments with pictures and video.
On the NH front, we have a patched ceiling now, got ice cream and slept for the past 3 hours.
The boys are having fun with Weapon X and mace.
Nobody puked, I'm mildly disappointed.

...Or wait for those other jerks to get back to the internets!
Home, safe and considerably less sane than I was before the weekend. Got 140+ pics up, from Friday night at the German club through this morning in my Photobucket album. Some pics of the inn (which was awesome). Some of us split off to do a wine tasting at a local winery. Cram taught us how to play "Not In My House," which ended with people being flung off the porches.

Great weekend. For a house full of discordians, things went pretty smoothly, and, surprisingly, there were few full blown arguments (aside from the "who has the coolest hat and/or biggest dick" argument, which was settled when Richter took a face dive off the second story balcony. Sorry about that, Rich, BTW).
It was awesome meeting the Squids and Trip/LadyTrip, and seeing all the spags that I hadn't seen since last summer.
Great food, good booze, what else can I say?
File this meat-up under "success."
An aside: Anyone down for starting a North East Pro "Not Under My Roof" league?
