Title: ATTN: PEOPLE WHO LIKE CATS
Post by: Lies on March 08, 2011, 09:22:58 AM
FUCK YOU, THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9Fyey4D5hg) is definite and scientific (http://www.cracked.com/article_18930_6-amazingly-intelligent-animals-that-will-creep-you-out.html) proof that dogs are a million times more awesome.

Lies-
Doesn't mind cats but boy are they fucking lazy selfish bastards.

Cats understand slack.

I can also piss off for a weekend and leave cats alone, a dog, not so much.

Yeah, but can your cat get your dirty clothes and do your washing for you?
NO THEY CANT. Cat's may have slack, but having a dog gives YOU a million more times slack.

Yeah, like I need a dog to dye my scanties pink.

Having THAT dog might give you more slack... but most of 'em need a lot more work than any cat out there.

It's all blocked for me

Just wait till I get home, I'm betting those are cats in dog suits!!!   :argh!:

My kitties are not lazy, they are foreleaders in energy conservation and fuel storage.  I'm sure if the incentive was enough they would possibly smack a pair of socks towards the general direction of the laundry and by god they would make sure I liked it or else....

Actually when I think about it my kitties are a little scary.

I just got my two from the house last night.  They were NOT happy about being stuffed in a box, shoved in a car, and moved.

They've been good, only destroyed one shelf, and let me sleep until 3:30 before they came and woke me up.

Oh, absolutely.  And the shelf was probably an accident, it's not very strong, and I put those together when I was tired.  Fine to stack T-shirts on, kitty was just too much weight for it.

Leon is a fine specimen of fat orange cat. I have a feeling it was him and not Artemis. Though Artemis's tiny figure is deceiving. She's pretty dense.

Exactly true.  I miss the dog like anything, I really do... but I do NOT miss, "what time is it?  We have to get home to let the dog out..."

Cats, I want to run off for a weekend and camp, I throw down extra bowls of food and water.  Dog requires a sitter or a kennel.

For me, "camping" is often "SCA Events."

The dog did come with us, sometimes, but she's a handful.

Unfortunately, we got her as an adult, completely untrained.  We worked with her, and she's as friendly as you could want, but she takes one person's attention pretty much all the time, particularly because she's a pit bull.  (We trust HER, to a point, we don't trust some kid not to rush over to her, get knocked down because she wants to play, and have Mommy have a freakout because the mean pit bull attacked her kid.)

That's one of the happiest dogs I know (remarkably, like most pit bulls.) She can be a little TOO happy, though.

Yep.  If I'm not paying attention she can pull me off my feet.

She LOVES people, and wants to see EVERYTHING.  She's good... but if we had her with us, one of us couldn't do the things we went to SCA events to do because we had to watch the dog.  Some friends are happy to watch her while we go fight, but imposing sucks.

My youngest is allergic to cats, so we have dogs.  They nice little creatures, but I miss having cats, no mistake.  That lil dog in the youtube video is hilarious--he's a Jack Russell, yeah?  They NEED to be trained to the nth degree just to keep all that asshattery energy in check.

We take our dogs camping, but they're so small that we have to watch out because they don't KNOW they are small and start shit all the time--with squirrels, coyotes, you name it.

We also had the experience of, at one event, attempting to tie her and go to feast.

She got scared by another dog, and bolted.  Was gone for two weeks.  We got her back because she was wearing her tags and someone found her.

We've been a little paranoid, since.

I miss her.

Also, I can't remember the last time I heard about a cat saving someone's life by pulling them out of a burning building, or something similar. And I don't think it's because cats aren't capable of saving your ass, I just think they don't want to.

Actually, that's not very smart of them since they're gonna have to catch all of their own food now. Cats have the same kind of cleverness displayed by the people in the trailer park that always have new sneakers but can never afford to get their car fixed. Dogs are capable of taking the long view and involving strategy, not just tactics.

As others have said in this thread, cats are companions, dogs are a lifestyle. I can respect something that looks at me and says "feed me because I"m cute and I feel like it." More dependency and I start to think that just maybe somebody wanted kids, but didn't want to invest in college and couldn't deal with a creature with too much independence.

To be fair, I like dogs a lot, but I can't see owning one unless I had at least one other person utterly devoted to its care. Plus, a cat is smart enough to remember where its meals come from. A dog requires more reminders of who in the pack is "alpha" and all the accompanying shit.

my wife has the serious puppy jonesing right now.
we had to bury our dog about a year ago, and now she's ready for another one...

i like cats, we've had plenty. (too many, some times)
but i also liked having my reef aquarium in much the same way.
cats are awesome and alien. anthropomorphizing them is a mistake, though.
a dog, however, is something you can empathize with.  you can make a rudimentary connection with them that you just can't do with a cat...

See now I have a hard time with that. JC (Joy's cat) we have had since she was 6.  We rescued her from the wild release thing they have in Everglades City.  When Joy was 5 she went out to EC with my Dad.  She was sitting of the general store steps and JC came up to her and they had to take the cat out of the car when they left.  It was almost a year later when we went out to adopt a cat.  Joy gets out of the car at the place and starts calling kitty kitty and JC came right up to her.  They were inseperable until we moved up here and JC stayed with mom and dad.  When dad died and we went to get shit straight, JC came home with us and it was like those two were never seperated.  JC is with her every second Joy i shome even to the point you have to shut the bathroom door fast or she'll sit in there and meow while Joy is in the bath.  They have a serious connection.  Anyway, I love both cats and dogs, but where I live a cat is all I can have.

I don't like dogs that jump and don't listen, which is about 99.9% of the large breeds most Americans have. My friends have 2 boxers...I'm used to them now, but for a while I thought the only way I'd get them to knock if off was if I punched the fuckers in the face.

Then of course, I let Daisy (Herbert's dog) out the day she got hit by the car. I've still never forgave myself for that...but at the same time, how smart is a dog that "knows" to stay in the backyard to go to the bathroom for a few minutes and still bolts across the street after the mailman?

I also blame the fuckers who drive too goddamn fast up that hill because they're self-important politicians who didn't even have the decency to stop.

It also reminded me that I have no patience for dogs. Fortunately my parents' big oaf of a German Shepherd is probably the warmest fuzziest Ottoman you'll ever put your feet on.

Smelly? Your feline is defective, or way too used to other cats grooming it. In most cases, cats are self-cleaning and have the decency to bury their own shit. Dogs are indeed cool, but require constant attention and lots of plastic baggies to keep them from pissing off the neighbors. Seriously, don't even get me started about lazy dog owners, I've dodged more piles of "oh, it's snow, no one will ever notice Fido crapped here" since the temperature rose above freezing than I care to remember.

IMO, lapdogs are significantly below cats. Each breed probably had a use once. Then someone decided it was too cute to be taxed with the responsibility of catching rats, alerting the household to intruders, retrieving small game or whatever. And now, the result sits placid and brainless and waits to be fed so it can poop again. Even if it satisfies the emotional needs of a human, why bother? At least a cat will be interested by the sounds of mice in the walls.

I have a dog that, I kid you not, makes every effort to ensure that he poops on things as high up as possible.  He'll do this, this pooing poise where he tries to stick his ass in the air, and leave his dog eggs stuck in the top of a bush.

Unfathomable.

Any dog smaller than a cat is not a canine, it is a member of the rodent family, and should be treated as such.  (Puppies are exempt, there's hope they'll grow out of it... and the one that piddled on Richter's armor may earn an exemption, as well if he keeps the "I'll be a BIG dog, someday" attitude as he gets older.)

Both are useful and smart in their own ways but I hate dogs.
I mean, I wouldn't hurt one, but I'm not in any hurry to go touch one either.. unless it's on fire or something.
wtf why would you pet a burning dog?

Fuck that I want to know why the dog is on fire to begin with?

Well, I hated so-called lapdogs until I got a couple of them.  And they don't know they're lapdogs, so I guess that's why they don't cause such enmity in me.  I hated the shivering, mewling little cusses until we got one as a puppy.  Our larger one is a poodle/Schnauzer mix, and he's got some big-ass 'tude.  But then, he was a Mexican rescue dog, so chances are he spent some time on the streets of TJ before we got him.

As for our yorkie-poodle mix, she's a total bitchtits, and will fucking anyone (before they try to make a snack of her, that is).  She really has no clue how small she is.  And hates to be carried around.  She'd rather run, and wants to be AHEAD of everyone else.  She's loyal and protective, something that my cats never fucking were.

I don't separate the two, though, in greatness.  Cats are apples, dogs are oranges.  To me, this debate is like cake and pie.  There's room for both and time for each.  I just don't have a horse in this race.  (ba-dum-ching!)

I have a dog that, I kid you not, makes every effort to ensure that he poops on things as high up as possible.  He'll do this, this pooing poise where he tries to stick his ass in the air, and leave his dog eggs stuck in the top of a bush.

Unfathomable.
You tube or it didn't happen

I would advise against touching dogs that are on fire...

I didn't say anything about petting a burning dog, but I'd whack it with a stick to put the fire out or something. I dunno, what works, throw a soda on it? Flog it with a towel? Whatever.
Anyway, I'm not in a hurry to pet one but I'd put it out if it were on fire or something is what I'm saying.

Oh and I've had both cats and dogs---and well---I'm a cat person I think. Much easier to take care of.
Hmmm Maybe I'm just lazy and not a cat person. huh.

I think my ideal pet would be a mindless love object, such as a formless blob with an adorable face that I could just squeeze and squeeze without it dying.

Any dog smaller than a cat is not a canine, it is a member of the rodent family, and should be treated as such.

That's a puppy, and puppies are exempt.

Cute... but he's gonna grow up to be a little, yappy poop factory.

Bunnies are cute, too...  And of more use, as they can be considered emergency food.

Heh, all I know is that my cats better start learning some new evasive maneuvers.

The boy is up on his feet now and he's not even a year yet.
