So, War Games was on last night, with an adorably immature Matthew Broderick. Who happens to look in that film like my 11-year-old nephew.
Anyway, Mrs LMNO (after giggling at the dial up modem that used an actual telephone), started thinking about how hackers are portrayed in movies, and how that's changed. But before we can come to any conclusions, we need to list any movie that has a hacker in it. So we appeal to the community for help. A few to get you started:
War Games
Hackers
The Net
The Matrix
Ferris Beuller's Day Off (Broderick again!)
Real Genius
Please to continue list.
swordfish?
Thought not the main characters, in "Gone in 60 Seconds", the guy who breaks into the DMV database, then later gets shot by a rent-a-cop in suburbia.

List o' 30 there.
Thanks.
Live Free Or Die Harder is obvious, but there was a hacker in the first Die Hard as well, if I remember.
Firewall... which was a terrible movie.
STAR WARS
they totally hacked into the Death Star, Yo. In fact, they hacked through each of the epis, old and new.
WEIRD SCIENCE- Protagonists hack into a military computer using roller coaster operating system.
Independence Day - Jeff Golblum found Mac-compatible aliens and gave them a computer virus.
Jurrasic Park - The young girl overrides the lock mechanisms to keep velociraptors from opening doors.
Enemy of the State, even if they were technically working for the NSA and doing unauthorized ops on a civilian
Not sure if it counts, but don't Mark Zuckerberg & Co. hack into the college databases to get everyone's info in The Social Network?
There was an episode of Silver Spoons where what's-his-name accidentally on-purpose hacked into the DoD.
Changing Lanes - the dude who gets hired to wreck Samuel L. Jackson's bank accounts and credit.

They just WGet'ed publicly available stuff, but I think it counts.
The Italian Job had a hacker (if I'm remembering the right movie at least). Hacked into the traffic light system.
There was also a couple of hackers in the Transformers film.
The original April O'Neil from TMNT was kind of a hacker.
In later versions, she was a reporter.
edit: that's not really a film example, though.
PI
Office Space
In any movie containing a hacker but not explicitly being about hacking said hacker could easily be replaced with a wizard and the plot would still work.
Case-in-point, Die Hard 4.0. Hacker(wizard) uses m4d haxX0r sk1llz(Magic) to override the pilots targeting system(hex the pilot) causing him to attack the protagonist.
Also to keep the thread from derailing:
I an Number Four. All aliens are experts at hacking computers.
EDIT: One of the characters can hack in to Facebook but cant "get through the firewall" of some shitty Geocities conspiracy site.
Speaking of aliens, Independence Day.
Jurassic Park - because DNA hacking counts too.
