Ok, so the dog has an ear infection, and she needs to take her damned antibiotics so she can walk without falling over again. Problem is, as of this morning, she's refusing to eat the hotdog I put the pills in, she just chews it up and spits the whole thing out.
Anybody have any ideas?
What other people-food does she like? Peanut butter, maybe?
I view holding her down and shoving it down her throat as a last resort. I about lost a finger doing that with a cat.
Hold her mouth open, shove it in, hold it shut until she swallows. Yes. Really.
Easy Cheese.
Go to your vet and tell them to give you a pet piller. If not they are about $5 or less at a pet store.

Tempting, but she could take my hand off if she decides not to let me.
Hmm, tried cheese, but not easy cheese.
What kind of dog? And do you have backup?

Had to watch her mom inject Benedryl into a 120lb German Shepherd's mouth last week. Lawl'd.
Doberman rottweiler mix. Though, I hadn't seen the pet piller when I said that, not actually having my hand in her mouth would be fine.

Yeah, that's a toothy heavy dog...just a bit.
Is there a way you can grind it up/squish out the gel on to/into the food? Even if the dog spits it out, she'll get the meds.
suppository. E/O/T.
Stuff the pill in a cat.

If she hasn't eaten her pill by the time its an hour till the vet closes this is exactly what she's getting.
I'm fairly sure she'll eat it tomorrow too.

She's afraid of cats.

Wrap it in cheese. There isn't a dog on Earth that can resist cheese.
Or, shoot dog and eat pills.
Put the pill as far back as you can close mouth pinch nose shut and rub throat from mouth down. It cause them to swallow fairly quick usually. You don't have to be rough with it.

Only, not in that order.
My last dog happily ate pills off a knife coated in peanut butter. When had had to shoot some pro-biotic stuff into her mouth courtesy of our vet, it was an unholy mess and didn't work out well at all.
Current dog seems ok with pill taking. We had to give her Benadryl a few months ago because she scratched the crap out of her eyes and they swelled enough for one to close completely and the other about half way.
(Will keep cheese in mind for future canine medication episodes.)
I just trained my friend's dogs to eat pills and get a treat for swallowing them without throwing a hissy fit, my friend doesn't have the strength to wrestle with dogs anymore.
Do it like the French do, and insert the pills in her bottom. (No teeth there) The dog will forgive you. (and might even love you more.)
Been using pizza crust (she'll do anything for it), but in the interest of not wanting to eat crappy frozen pizza on a daily basis I got Easy Cheese and a pet piller. The Easy Cheese has worked shockingly well.
I used to wrap the tablet in a slice of ham. He would gobble it straight down.
Mine are too damn smart for that and burying pills in food no longer works at all on the older one (cheese or no, though the little one still falls for it). We've had to resort to hanging on to him and doing the throat-stroke thing because it's the only way, sort of sticking them up his butt. He gave us the biggest puppydog eyes EVER when we had to do it last summer.
