dub from dub music, because it's supposed to sound a bit like Jamaican dub reggae a bit. I dunno where the Step comes from.

Supposedly, it comes from "two-step", which is supposed to mean a departure from the four-on-the-floor "Untz-Untz" of techno.
I don't get it. Was there a song anywhere in there?

It's supposed to induce a euphoric jizm state through the weird combination of noise patterns.
Quote from: Wikipedia on the Dionysian mysteriesThe trance induction that was central to the cult involved not only chemognosis, but also the 'invocation of spirit' by means of the bull roarer, and ecstatic communal dancing to drum and pipe, much like today's raves. The trances induced are described in terms familiar to anthropologists, with characteristic movements such as the backward head flick, found in all trance inducing cults, and represented most famously today by Afro-American Vodou and its counterparts. Just as in Vodou rites, and the best raves, certain drum rhythms were associated with the trance state. Rhythms are allegedly also found preserved in Greek prose that referred to the Dionysus rites, specifically the Bacchae of Euripides. This compilation of classical quotes describes such ancient rites in the Greek countryside, where they were held high in the mountains to which ritual processions were made on certain feast days:
Following the torches as they dipped and swayed in the darkness, they climbed mountain paths with head thrown back and eyes glazed, dancing to the beat of the drum which stirred their blood' [or 'staggered drunkenly with what was known as the Dionysos gait']. 'In this state of ekstasis or enthusiasmos, they abandoned themselves, dancing wildly and shouting 'Euoi!' [the god's name] and at that moment of intense rapture became identified with the god himself. They became filled with his spirit and acquired divine powers.[1]
To like it, you have to
want to like it. Turning your rational faculty towards dismissing musical genres is like torching an ice cream sundae with a flamethrower, which is hardly indefensible, so long as it remains more fun than eating the ice cream.

This but unironically.
My love affair with dubstep is over.
At first, I thought it was original.
Then, I realized it was just 3 different techno/dance beats on top of one another.
Then, I realized the other sounds are probably somebody making anal love with a microphone, slowed to 1/16th speed, and amplified.

In it's earliest form, we used to just call it Bassline. Drum and Bassy 2step, or Hardhouse, with more WHeEWHAWwUBbAwUBbAwUbBA, all mashed up on Ableton Live5, and spunked out to some good Dancehall DJ's.
Who got around the US's usual aversion to Crossed-over Euro-Dance/Techno and it's baffling sets of genres, by calling it "Dubstep".

alright, I really enjoyed that, and I mostly can't stand dubstep. It was gritty enough to appeal to my love for industrial, and nostalgic enough not to make me want to shut it off after the first minute, like I do with most dubstep.

I'm a fan of Noisia. They use some of the same elements that you find in dubstep but you're not likely to hear them at a "dubstep show."
Alpha Centauri is probably one of there more "womwomwom" tracks, but it has a great glitch feel to it IMHO that is reminiscent me of a darker and danker Muxmool. They have a great Fabriclive set (FL.40) that is most definitely not dubstep by any stretch of the imagination.

you calling that R&B has me 100% convinced you didn't actually listen to the entire song. give it a damn minute. the WOM WOM WOM WOM doesn't actually start making sweet love to your ears until 1:28 in.
