I believe this the thread that started this. http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=29003.0

Yep. It's 6 of us blogging inside of our specialty, with respect to the 21st century.
The 7th author is "guest", and is selected by Freeky once per week.
This ain't PD, by the way. Comments are moderated for relevance. We're not going to have a repeat of the EGfaBT debacle.
Nice!
We can register as members though correct?

Sure.
I would assume those who have not been invited to be authors could still sign up, which would allow them to bypass any major moderation issues and comment on the site freely, but could not post front page articles (unless they were guest author of the week).
Am interested. Please with the more info.
Looks like we are getting close to start up. :)
If you are gonna be an author, please sign up and then shoot Freeky and I a PM so we can assign you to your category :)
Also, if you want to write a synopsis of your category and include some kind of image (either author pic or some image that will fit with your category) get us the content :)

Ok, so I've got my first piece ready... How does this work? Do we take turns posting? Do we send them to you to wait in a queue? Should we post them here first?
Oh, and do you guys use <HTML> or [BBS] code over there?
...and I should say that, sadly, I'm getting a blockpage for the site.

Once you log in you will see a link to "Submit New Article" link.
That will pop up a editor for you to drop your content into. You can either use the editor or click the HTML link and edit the HTML directly.
You can then set it to Published, set Featured to Yes if you want it on the front page, set featured to No, if you want it publsihed and available in your category, but not on the front page.
Obviously the current template is just a placeholder :D
Yeah, but I was more getting to the point of pacing. Obviously, when the project is new, there will be a lot of energy. I was thinking that each new article should appear... I dunno. Once a week, rotating between the authors?
Just thinking out loud here.
I don't know what anyone else is thinking, but I'm gunning for one every 2-3 days, rotating between authors. With once a week, the energy that would be buzzing would get blocked, and then people would lose interest.

Up to you guys :D
Also, if you submit an article and don't publish it, you will still be able to see it but the edit buttons etc will be in blue (indicating unpublished). Just FYI :)
Ok, that's cool. Charley started us off. If no one's got anything for this weekend, I'll throw my piece up on Monday.
Excellent. :)
I have an idea for mine, which I am still hammering out. Will need to be looked at when I am not getting stomped on by life, really.

Great stuff, Charley! :D
I've got a few ideas floating around, but I've also got out-of-town company this weekend so I doubt I'll have anything ready for submission until this time next week.
No problem, dude. The way I figure, if we have a submission every 2 - 3 days, the rotation will be somewhere between 16 days and almost a month long. This way, there's something new frequently, but nobody is put under a ton of pressure to get their shit together after their first post.
I'm doing at least once per week.
What are the individual categories?

Yeah, I'm getting a 404 right now. Apparently the server is down.
Also, going under my real name. I don't feel like putting effort into writing anymore unless it's connected to me. Except here for you folks, of course.
I'll be checking it out in a few. I have to wait for my "too many failed login attempts" notice to go away.

It's back up now.
So, when it's time to add new posts, is there a WYSIWYG editor there or do we have to submit them?

So if they still own the rights to the song and there's no indicators that they decided to sell out at some point, maybe it's not.

Oh yes, but I was talking about the intent of the 40-year-old protagonist (?).
Yeah.
He apparently sold the band on the idea, but he could be a silver-tongued lying sack of shit. :?

Exactly. It's cool to think he might be fighting the Machine, and it makes me think where else this might arise.
I'm going to have to be throwing around ideas in my head for the rest of the week to match what you guys have written so far.
I might write a follow-up, non-front-page post that posits that it doesn't matter what the intent was, if even one person learns something.
:mittens: to Charlie and to LMNO.
QuoteBut some kids will notice that razor blade guitar, and want to know what the hell it is. And they'll find an entire realm of music that may have been hidden to them. Gang of Four. Mekongs. Mission of Burma. Modern Lovers. Magazine. And if we're really lucky, they might get inspired to do something else with their free time other than staring at a screen.
Funny you should mention that, LMNO, because your post has done exactly that to me. Gang of Four is my new favourite band, and I'm seriously considering taking an indefinite hiatus from tabletop RPGs. I don't seem to be going anywhere with them. But I have a journalism course to talk my way into, and I have a guitar to learn how to play, and I have a bike to fix, and I have a body to exercise, and I have parents to move out from. I've got a job now, so that's a start.
Thanks.

Awww man, you didn't save it somewhere else?
I would have assumed save would save a copy somewhere, and "publish" or "post" would post it, if available.
This is why nicking off the shelf software is generally a good idea: their customisability is low, but they tend to be simple and work.

Great post, Kai!
Yeah, my registration doesn't seem to be working.
I will register myself and see if that works. But later, as I have to go make a food for Pixie, and then possibly go out and spend some money.
I tried regging myself and the site stalled, didn't reg me, but then decided it would say my username is in use and so not let me sign up with it.
I'm starting to question the judgement of this. For half an hour's work, I could get a blog up on Wordpress which would have full support, better connection speed and no registration issues.

Yeah. Is it really the best idea to do this from scratch when there are so many skills needed to really pull it off? I mean, I understand the reasoning from a copyright and independence/anonymity standpoint, but if the server is crashing so easily and the software is hard to use, is it really feasible over the long term?
We could probably set something up at the Bar, where only certain people could start threads in one forum, but others could comment on them. I still haven't been able to see Kai's post yet.

You can be pretty independent with WP, and by international commercial law, whatever you write is copyright of that author. The only problems are not being able to design the site entirely from scratch, meaning you are stuck with certain set designs, and that if WP is targeted for takedown, that blog will go down with everyone else.

People are more likely to read, and comment, if it is in a blog format. Forums are basically crap for publishing articles and retaining control over commentary and use. Also I thought the whole point of this project was that it was not openly associated with Discordianism. That was what sold me on it in the first place. I'm not taking part in another Discordian blogging attempt.
Assuming I ever actually get activated.
Or have the time to write.

I understand, We are working to separate the Bar from Discordia on the way to its new identity though. EB&G is not a Discordian board, we just share some of the same posters.
I think Cain's idea is pretty swote, putting it on WP or something similar.
It needs to have it's own thing, so it doesn't get associated with ANYTHING.
Is this project dead or is it going to continue? Please let me know, because if it's still going I will contribute.
Looks like the site is working much more smoothly now, as well. Loaded up just fine.

Okay, the problem wasn't a system one, it was that your subject didn't have permission to publish to the front page, but it's fixed now.
