Title: Goddamnit, Roger sent a warning shot to New England last night.
Post by: Suu on June 09, 2011, 03:46:04 PM
Kind and Benevolent Rain God, MY ASS. I don't know if this is your way of saying goodbye to the Dutchspags, but I can assure you that this Princess was NOT AMUSED by your antics, Roger.

THUNDERSTORMS IN PROVIDENCE DO NOT DO THIS:

I went into Florida mode and hid in my bathtub until the worst of it passed, so all I heard was glass breaking and had a bit of a "oh shit, my kitchen is gone" moment, and called for backup. Hence Richter and Luna's appearance at 3am. Good thing though, because Luna and I are too short to tape my windows efficiently. Seriously, 15 years in Florida and 8 in New England, and I've only seen wind like that in storms that have a first name.

Both taped windows have storm panes that were shattered on the outside. It's not going to stop serious debris, but when the storms come back tonight they will hold it together, because I'm not banking on my landlord coming and fixing this today. (He seriously asked if someone threw rocks at my windows. WTF.)

I just got off the phone with my friends in Cranston, which is the next city over from Providence, they were hit worse. A maple tree got uprooted and landed on their house, breaking off their chimney pipe. Their neighbors had 4 cars in their driveway and luckily sustained nothing more than a broken windshield as a tree from their front lawn came down and missed the driveway by 6 inches. From what Richter told me he observed last night on his way to play MacGuyver to my windows (what, Luna and I are too short!) that some couches and furniture people had out for trash pickup were basically tossed around like tumbleweeds. He also said that Verizon service went down. T-Mobile stayed up, and I never lost power, but I did lose cable until this morning.

The Dutchspags are in New Bedford at EoC's house, they'll be back today. I don't know if they got anything bad, but I do know the storm hit Fall River with a vengeance as well, so I hope they're okay. I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Yeah, well, you left me little choice, talking about taking Tucson the way you were.

You may control the Eastern seaboard, but I control the rain.

You'll never make it past the Mississippi.  You'll be dragging ass home like Napoleon after Moscow, only with relentless rain rather than cold.

And it's not like I haven't been itching for a reason to flood the rest of the Midwest, anyway.

Well, if you could do me a favor. Florida is on fire, again. For Squid and my parents' sake, can you PLEASE send some their way? My brother really doesn't want a firework ban on the 4th.

Arizona is also on fire.  If I deal with those, that means the corn belt doesn't get enough rain.

This shit is way harder than it looks.

If you're going to send another hailstorm, please to aim it at windows NOT directly over my head while I'm sleeping?  Showering broken glass down upon my helpless, sleeping form would NOT be sporting.

I swear my landlord is useless.

Then again, it's not like the shards of glass are attacking me or it's raining right now, but I at least want an answer about when I can expect new windows.

Oh hey, landlord just called me back.

Apparently they lost a whole roof on the Eastside, so he's been a bit preoccupied.

:spag:

He's trying to get someone over here tonight, but he doesn't know. So I need to get this window patched up good and tight, or at least, as tight as we can get it, before the storms roll in tonight.

Yeah, okay.

I dealt with Hurricane Andrew for 3 fucking days straight.
Gloria knocked down 7 trees in my backyard when I still lived in NY.
I've had 2 feet of water from Tampa Bay with stingrays swimming in my bedroom from a Gulf FLYBY called Georges, not even a direct hit.
I've chased tornadoes across the plains in Arkansas ON VACATION.
I was ready to sleep in the bathtub last night, out of pure habit, since the first thing they teach you in 1st grade in Florida are duck and cover drills.
I have cyclones in my blood, Old Man, and I'm STILL waiting on that Cat 5 you said we'd get 2 years ago.

Thunderstorms in the summer are perfectly normal.

Thunderstorms with horizontal hail that take out windows, on the other hand...Not so much. We get our fair share of hail storms too, like 2 or 3 rockin' ones a summer, but with hurricane force winds attached to them? Um, not unless it's a hurricane.

Provably so...  Everything eased right off.  Trip and 'Torte are here, fed, and are getting organized for the big trip home in the morning.

I'll have to come up with an appropriate token of my appreciation to send to Tuscon.
