Title: Torchwood.
Post by: Triple Zero on July 09, 2011, 08:21:56 PM
IT WAS TOO SHORT!!  :argh!:

now I have to wait a week.

(glad cpt Harkness is back though)

I got some time to kill, any suggestions what to watch? Movies/series/etc?

I would suggest something that isn't "crackfic written by 13 year old girls who watch Dr Who", aka Torchwood.

There is a new season of Burn Notice.  Three episodes out.  The Killing is the latest series from AMC, who brought us Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rubicon and The Walking Dead, all worth watching if you haven't seen them yet.

Hey, I love me some Torchwood. K?

I also don't care how gay John Barrowman is, I want to have his babies. Ever heard him sing?  :aaa:

already seen Burn Notice. I'll check some of the other suggestions though, even though I didn't like Breaking Bad that much (it was great, actually, but it just really gets me down for some reason).

I gave up on Breaking Bad after getting about 2/3 of the way through the first season.

Does it get any less completely awful after that? People sure do seem to like it.

Have you watched NCIS at all?

I can't help it, I have an addiction [when I have access to a television]. :(

If you are ever up for a Comedy...check out Get Him To The Greek. I just about literally Laughed during the ENTIRE movie.

Caught Torchwood last night.  Liked it.  Decent intro/recap for new viewers, which they kinda had to do, considering not just new network, but whole new country.  Creepy effects (going right for the gross-out, on occasion).

I second the Barrowman and Harkness love.  I haven't seen any Torchwood though; seen Captain Jack on Doctor Who.

It's just that ... it was a lot of recap/intro and not much actual happenings except for people not dying. Which we already knew about from the teasers.

O but I just checked this season will have 10 weekly episodes, okay I thought it was going to be another really short run like Dr Who. Meh well I guess they can afford to waste an episode on recap and intro bullshit.

Whoa, new torchwood!

If you need something to watch, there's a new season of Futurama airing also.

ok i'll keep that in mind, haven't watched new Futuramas in ages, so I guess I'm already a few seasons behind :)

(btw just checking you are aware that there's been a new run of 7 Dr Who eps from 23 april to 4th june right? they're much better than the previous run. also, scheduled to continue in September with an ep called Let's kill Hitler )

Yeah, I knew that, but only because I check regularly.

It's hard keeping track of TV shows when you rarely actually watch TV.

Well this season of Torchwood is really going nowhere, slow :|

I watched last week's episode yesterday and ... basically they spent 50 minutes dragging out the story to reveal that, indeed, these "overflow camps" are not for treating the sick, but disposing of them. Something everybody already knew just by their name when they were introduced the episode before that. And now, it might have been something if they were disposed of because the ALIENS are EATING THEM or whatever but no they burn them "alive". WHERE ARE THE FUCKING ALIENS??? I'm just getting a rotating triangle and a blue-eyed dude telling the red-haired PR woman that she's been "noticed".

That's all that happened, introduction of blue-eyed man and "OMG they burn the sick in the overflow camp".

Speaking of rotating triangles, they sure cut on the special FX compared to previous Torchwood series, didn't they? Even the Torchwood "tech" looks crappy, which is explained away by them having to operate from shitty hotel rooms now. Where's the fucking underground base? And the dimensional time space rift? AND THE FUCKING ALIENS

GIMME ALIENS :argh!:

I haven't watched the new one (that aired yesterday) yet, let's hope they get on with the story, or something.

Good thing the new Doctor Who is scheduled for august 27th (only two more weeks!) and is titled LET'S KILL HITLER.

I know what you mean. I thought Mr. Davies was making a 10 hour movie, be he seems to be pacing it for a 30 hour movie.

I haven't seen the latest episode of Torchwood myself, but from the reviews it appears that nothing has happened yet.

Maybe I should wait for the series to finish, and then watch them all in one go...

IMO this one was a bit better than last week. Stuff happened and Gwen had a few moments of awesome. I also identified a big part of the problem: it's the two new American (ex) CIA people. The black guy likes himself too much (check him talking long rants of revenge into his digital camera while he should be STFUing and getting that footage out of there) and the blonde woman is just too clueless/helpless (this episode, someone asks her "Just how blonde are you?!")

Also check out the hilariously low-budget China scene in the beginning :lulz: (or was it Japan, I forgot. I think it must have been China because it had a dark alley with neon signs and paper lanterns, that's cheapo TV code for China, right?)

Hong Kong / Shanghai yea..

Mostly, it's been slow because they're trying to introduce the whole "shtick" to an american audience.. this week's ep was definitely better than last week's. Not saying much there, tho.
Title: Re: Torchwood.
Post by: Triple Zero on August 14, 2011, 12:42:16 PM
No I only accepted that as an excuse for the first episode. And they're not really introducing any shtick, because it's not really like the original Torchwood at all, except it has Gwen and cpt Jack--there's no aliens, no dimensional rift, they don't even explain how/why Jack came back.

The premise of "one day, nobody dies" was really promising but after six episodes I've kinda seen it.

It would have probably worked if they'd squeezed the story into five episodes, like Children of Earth.

one BBC series that I really enjoyed recently was The Hour.  I mean it's got Ben Whishaw AND Jimmy McNulty Dominic West in it!

I stopped watching boring cause it was boring.

People who drop spoilers within a week of an episode (or book or movie) coming out should have their tongues nailed to trees, IMHO.
