I haven't seen it as bad as this since 2006. LMNO and I were talking about how this was just one of those slow periods.

I actually started a ton of writings back in January that just sorta....fizzled. I still have them. I don't know why I didn't finish them, especially the Seven Hills of Providence.

I've been having house guests for a while. They just showed up one day. I can't remember if I woke up to them or they just snuck in one day or if I invited them in for coffee or something. Sometimes they do that. They'll stay for a little while and be on their way rather of their own accord.
They've been here a while though.
Since day one I've just been trying to convince myself that they'll be out in short order. I never know. This time, I don't know when they'll go and I'm very, very concerned that they won't.
I've been doing the normal thing when they're around. Staying somewhat active, pursuing a social life, all that. But then when it's over it doesn't seem like it's made a fuck lot of difference. The guests are still living in my place.
It's a funny thing they do, too. They're polite in every sense of guests. They don't eat all the food or keep the lights on. They're quiet and tidy. But when it's a nice sunny day outside and they're around, well, it's too hot to really dive into anything. Or when it's a cool summer night, eh, there's always another one, then one after that so why even bother. One of them removed the mirror from the bathroom and the other unplugged the music speakers; they've hidden the spices and perfumed the air into a generically chemical air freshener.
They talk. Just loud enough so I can hear a word here or there with no music to drown it out.
"He's realy going to be there for a while. And really, why shouldn't he be, with the econmy the way it is. Might as well stagnate at the place, right?"
"Really a Veronica kind of guy, you know? Always going to want the one that he can't quite get."
"He has no real need to start that next piece. Nor any plan on where to take it. And maybe he's right, the words will fail him."
I look at them good and hard and I know they're wrong. But they look at me like it doesn't matter to them in the least, really, and they'll go on repeating it.
So after a while with nothing to do about them, the words come out wrong. Bitter and resentful and unnecessary. They're scathing to the last syllable and just lies that I've come to believe myself. Words that I know are wrong and aren't really how I feel but can't do anything about. I don't want to do that, not to the good people I know, and I know how transparent it all is so I just stick with the house guests.
They are, after all, my house guests.
Work, houseguests, meh. Nothing people can't get around.

I'm slammed at work and internet at home is iffy at best. I'm not mad, pouting or in flounce mode, just trying to survive. I've had a couple of things in the works, they just suck...
I have to think it's a lot of life kicking people's asses right now, few of us have had a good summer, most have just tried to live thru it.
Once you're out of school and don't get summer vacation and it's just you and weird creepycrawlers coming in the house for moisture and triple digits at fuckin' midnight, summer sucking is a given.
No excuse.
Seriously, once I get settled in, I am in like Flynn. I'm itching to do a rant or two, but don't have the time to think up the right words for them.
That and I want to balance it with meatspace Discordia, which I've also been lagging on. Past couple of weeks its been getting all of my shit ready to go, getting rid of unnecessary shit, spending time with Villager, and making arrangements for where I will be when. And work naturally, but since that's just a given I haven't been terribly concerned about it.
I'm just running on empty. I'm lucky if I can find something interesting and post about it or make a pithy comment here or there.
I seriously need a fucking break from my life. If I'm not doing three things at once, I'm zoning out.
I went to bed at 7 pm last night, before the sun went down, and I woke up dead-ass tired.

But more importantly, the fucking lights stay on so they can locate the source of the terrible stink. I want them to find the toilet, in all its unflushed glory and horror, fit enough even to summon Cthulu himself from it's shit smeared, goatse-like opening. Confusion and awe, that's one thing. But fucking blood-draining fear and loathing... Well, my friends, I don't need to tell you the value of that. The lights stay on.
And, finally, the coffee.
