Wow, that's really magically special. It's amazing to me that the one guy absolutely refuses to get that the question raised by the blog is "how should I have protected myself?" but "I took all appropriate measures to report a crime and nobody gave a single fuck or responded, why the hell not?"
I agree that a public masturbator is a lower- priority crime than a shooting or a robbery in progress, but there should be some kind of reasonable response from the transit police to such a report. Completely ignoring such reports is inappropriate and negligent.
That said, I would start carrying several pleasingly shaped stones or fishing weights with me, and work on my aim. If the cops won't be a deterrent, maybe being used as target practice will be. (Fishing weights would be ideal for this, as they are compact yet heavy enough to hurt like a motherfucker.)
Either that, or ALL women get free gun safety lessons and concealed-carry permits automatically upon reaching age fourteen.
