That's disturbing, yeah...  I can see the value in coordinating volunteer assistance in emergencies, but I find myself doubting this is a "stay the fuck out of the way, and when you CAN help, fo it without waving your book under everyone's noses."

I know a little about the UK disaster response/first responders system, mainly because my father is part of Gold Command (the three-tiered response level to disaster-level events).

At no point in the command structure are churches asked if they want to play at emergency rescue.  Mainly because churches have a distressing tendency to use such crisis events to recruit, and, in some cases, deny treatment and care to those who refuse to do so, or refuse them treatment on other "ethical" grounds (men not allowed to touch women etc).

Things are getting a little muddy here out west.

Great. This just means we're going to have to start annexing Mexico if we want to return the the great days of gunslinging lawlessness. We're going to run out of land to steal homestead if we're not careful.

You're so 1870.

Nowdays, what used to happen to them is happening to us.

Only we're the Chinamen too. And it's not a transcontinental railroad we're building, it's a giant, intricate pipeline with branches that grow out and touch every bit of space to bring goods and services rapidly to anywhere they're needed, at the speed of thought.

Oh look! There's one in your pocket!

GOLLY! There's one growing out of my finger!

I can't wait until I get one in my HEAD!

:lulz:

Exactly how is the "Super Special Snowflake Bible Response Team" going to assist the future event of a mass shooting? Either they become so many meatshields (in some vain attempt to expend the attackers ammunition) or, much MUCH scarier, these asshats arm themselves and we have ourselves a good ol-fashioned purging.

No, no, no.  We just put the religious people in charge and they'll fix everything.

Yep. Just like the missionaries fixed the kids at the Indian schools.

Welcome to the reservation.
