I know there is another thread somewhere but search is borked and I'm lazy.
So here is the latest crop of nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
First timers:
Guns N' Roses,
the Cure,
Heart,
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts,
Eric B. and Rakim,
the Spinners,
the Small Faces/Faces,
Freddy King and Rufus with Chaka Khan
Returning nominees:
Beastie Boys,
Laura Nyro,
War Donovan
Red Hot Chili Peppers
For me, it's a no-brainer and the first 5 are inducted. But they are sure to fuck it up, as they usually do. Too bad they can't open it up to six nominees because the Beastie Boys should be in as well. I'm completely fine with RHCP not making it.
It will be interesting to see how Axl handles it when they get inducted. (I don't see how they don't get inducted). would be cool to see a performance of the original lineup.
Heart's not in already?
I can't stand Joan Jett, but for her contributions to music and how long she's been around also, my opinion doesn't really matter.
And the Beastie Boys SHOULD be in, damnit. They're more rock and roll than the Cure. And RHCP? Really? What is the stipulation for nomination?
The Faces honestly need to get in, for no other reason than to hear the raspy slurfest of Ron Wood and Rod Stewart.
And I'd take Eric B over GnR any day, as far as innovative musical impact is concerned.

Bolded are not rock n roll.
The Cure is EBM.
Technically they could argue that the Beasties aren't either, but Run DMC is already in.

Meh, RnR HOF doesn't let in innovators anyway. Or not many. Especially not any that are metal. They've let Sabbath in and then went straight to Metallica. Completely skipping over Priest and Maiden.
Also, Faith No More should be in. For better or for worse, they laid down the groundwork for a lot of the nu-metal and contemporary hard rock bands of the late 90s/2000s. Hell, I was just listening to the Nevermind Town Hall the other day and Krist Novoselic said even Nirvana owed some of their success to Faith No More.

Nah, the Beasties use a lot of rock elements in their brand of hip-hop. Run-DMC did too. I think it makes sense for them to be in.
And the Cure are rock. They are slow and mopey rock, for sure.
I do believe Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails will be coming of age for nomination shortly, now that I think of it.
...Damn. I think my back just went out.

Of course, you're joking. Unless you also consider Siouxsie and the Banshees to be EBM. Which is silly.

Technically, they're classified as dubstep.
More specifically, they're part of the Neo-Dubstep Breakbeat Jazzcore movement.

It's 25 years after the first single or album release. Bleach was 1989 so Nirvana should be up for 2014. Not sure about NIN, I seem to think their first release was a year earlier but I could be wrong. Should be 2013 or 2014.
Obviously Nirvana are a no-brainer and I'm sure the RnR HOF are foaming at the mouth for that one. (which will be good for Grohl because there is no way Foo Fighters belongs in that thing.) Pearl Jam should be up that year as well. That year will probably be Seattle heavy.
It's all down-hill after that. After they induct Radiohead they should just lock it up.
RWHN,
Old, jaded, music-snob elitist.

So did Siouxie invent the breakbeat? This may be the breakthrough we've all been waiting for!

She pioneered the "BreakBudgieBeat", which consited of Siouxie forcing her husband into weird sexual positions in the shower (NSFW pic here (http://www.thesoundofindie.com/archive/2008/20080421/20080421.jpg)).

She's holding a drink under the shower??
Eric B. and Rakim are the only ones on that list that deserve an unqualified 100% unanimous entry, so of course they won't even get in.
RHCP would have been a mortal-lock cinch if they had stopped after BloodSugarSexMagic, so of course they'll get in because everybody with no taste thought that Californication was a great album.
Guns 'n' Fucking Roses should probably get in just because Appetite For Destruction is the single best rock 'n' roll album of all time, but they should have to be inducted as "Guns 'n' Fucking Roses", and only Slash gets to talk during the acceptance speech. Duff can choke on six miles of turtle dick, and Axl shouldn't even be allowed in the venue, unless someone invites Izzy and makes them sit next to each other.
It would be a shame if they were inducted and Izzy wasn't there, given that he wrote over 3/4 of the music on Appetite.
And wrote AND sang on two of the three really good songs on the Use Your Illusion albums (Dust & Bones and 14 Years).
