Title: Official Winter 2011 New Englanders Bitch About Weather Thread
Post by: Suu on October 30, 2011, 01:30:02 AM
...anyone know if RWHN is buried yet?

Also, which one of you fuckers pissed off Aput?

Also, also...there's 1/2" of pure muck outside, and all Providence is getting is sleet. I heard Western, MA is nearly 2 feet already! o.O

Fuck this noise. Fuck it, I say.

Don't complain, the snow began here around 2pm and hasn't slacked since.

To be fair, it took an hour or three before the accumulation started, but don't let yourself think you have it too bad. We're just getting started in the Northeast!

My cats have been hibernating since noon.

If I pissed of Aput, I have yet to be informed of it.

You're also in Worcester, which, I'm convinced is really a frozen circle of Hell. With your brother being home, it shouldn't be any warmer either. (Burn?)

Anyways, Narragansett Bay is a benefit in this case, especially since the center of circulation is over Long Island, so it's throwing all the really fun stuff into Connecticut.

Either way, it'll be gone tomorrow, and I still have to move my heavy shit. :(

A foot and counting of wet stuff, and leaves still on most of the trees. It sounds like popcorn out there; with the branches breaking. Oh, and the power went out at around 3 pm.

I think my house is going to fall apart on my last night here. Every window is shaking violently and I can feel the building swaying.

Sleep is optional tonight.

Highs between 76-79 all week. It rained a little yesterday but then cleared up.
Sunny skies tomorrow.

Eat it New England.

Little bit of snow stuck last night...  Doesn't look like even an inch.  Forecast says it'll warm up today, looks like it'll melt off.

I don't know why you all insist on complaining about this crap. For one, you knew that part of the world wasn't fit for human civilization when you let your retarded religious zealots settle there in the first place, and for two there are 44 other states in this country, many of which enjoy a quite temperate and reasonable climate.

Also, whining about a few inches of slush just makes you guys look weak. I mean, your weather only comes from the sky down, FFS. REAL weather also comes at you from below.

Looks like one of my windows broke more.

Oh well, not my problem.

It did, however, keep me up until 5am wondering if the entire roof was going to cave in on me.

And, of course, now it looks like my only help for today to finish moving is without power in MA. I'm never getting out of this rattling death trap.

People can't lift furniture when the power is out? :?

Perhaps you need more dedicated friends.

ECH,
will sling a couch over his back and walk it 3 miles in a blizzard and up 4 flights of stairs provided there is enough free beer on the line

I just can't get a hold of her at the moment. LOL. They got a good blast of snow in Dudley, even though it's right on the border. And once she shovels out, she needs to abandon her kids with her husband and drive 20 mins down here.

But other than the usual Luna and Richter crowd, who have their own plans and I can't always rely on them, I was bailed on this year. I've been putting calls out for weeks saying "FREE FOOD, FREE BEER" and they've been ignored. I hope none of these people want me to help them move anytime soon. My boss is coming over with her 3 fucking kids. I don't have a choice, they'll probably get crushed under my stuff, but at least I'll get moved out.

I don't have that much stuff, either. I'm looking at maybe 2 loads between 2 minivans now, just because it's the larger furniture pieces. Then I need to finish breaking down the kitchen and bathroom, but the new apartment is literally around the corner, I can move all night if I have to with a hand truck if it comes down to it. Well, I can't do that with the futon or dresser, but you get my drift.

I probably wouldn't bitch so much if I wasn't on the 3rd floor of a 6 family moving to the 2nd floor of a 3 family up spiral staircases that are about 2-3' wide at the most.  :x

16 inches of snow on Halloween is not normal for this region. The real problem was wet, heavy snow on trees that still had their leaves. It sounded like popcorn out there, and I didn't see a single road that didn't have branches (or whole trees) on the lines. A few nearby gas stations finally opened up today, so yippee.

I am pleased to be returning to a place that was able to hold together its illusion of being first-world. Hot showers and clean laundry are really quite lovely things.

Providence got next to nothing, thanks to the protective bubble that radiates off of Narragansett Bay.

However, I went up to Attleboro last night and saw kids trick or treating in 2", and trees down everywhere. That's just 13 miles to the North.

It's 16F/8.8C outside.

Not a cloud in the sky.

Us Providencians like to call this phenomenon, "Ineffective Sunshine."

It's my favorite kind of winter weather. Why? Because it hasn't precipitated, and therefore, we have no nasty effects of precipitation.

It's been a weird winter so far.  Hardly any snow save for one, somewhat inconvenient, storm right before Thanksgiving.  It's supposed to get back up in the 40s sometime this week.  No snow in sight for Xmas.  I for one will not complain about this.  Whether it's linked to Global Climate Change or not, I'm cool with a winter without snow.  Or minimal snow.

It's going to be one of those dry and cold years that we get every so often, and after last year, I say we deserve it. Providence isn't supposed to get a foot a week. It's suppose to freezing rain every other day, then jump from the 30s to the 60s randomly for 3 months until everyone has pneumonia.

I'm okay with this. LET it be 16 with a chance to frostbite 10 minutes. As long as there is no snow, ice, or wind, I'm perfectly happy.

It is a week before Christmas.  There is no snow.

Fuck it.

Cancel Christmas.

I want at least two to four inches of snow, STAT.  It doesn't count as Christmas unless there's snow.

Waffle Iron, get on it.

Actually, the Gulf of Mexico is cold right now, in the 60s. Which is normal, that means I can go looking for manatees in the bay. :3

I'll see if my brother is up for a trip in the flats. They closed snook season through AUGUST, which means we can try to land a redfish for dinner since they'll be huddled in the estuaries to keep warm.

I'll actually be in West Palm tomorrow, so feel free to meet me at Saito's for lunch.

And take it from an ex-Mainer, there's no such thing as "too cold to snow". If there was, Sugarloaf would go out of business.

Oh, and I was in the right thread. The offshore breeze and resulting light chop are making for less than optimal visibility for snorkeling. So I am bitching about the weather after all.

I have a layover in the Dirty, so I won't be landing at TIA until clusterfuck hour. :(

I won't have my own wheels, otherwise if you hit anywhere else on the East Coast I'd try to meet up for a beer. You know, a 2-4 hour drive. For beer.

Checked the 10 day forecast.  Only day between now and Christmas, the only day we have any precipitation due, it's rain, not snow.  We will, more likely, wind up with the "winter mix" shit that'll freeze to sheets of ice overnight.

After Christmas, I do not give a shit.  No snow, a foot of snow, I do not care.

It is the lack of the white blanket to cover the suck for the holidays to which I object.
