I've been blasting the office building manager with e-mails about having my religion represented in the lobby holiday decorations. Yesterday he called me up and asked how he could help. When I told him that I would be satisfied if he hung a a cartoon moose from the X-Mas tree, he told me he "had to make a few inquiries" and that we'd talk in person today. THIS IS GONNA BE FUN.

Fuckin' A. I have my last final on the following Tuesday... We'll have to see how many fucks I have left to give. The need to unwind with the World's Greatest Holiday may overwhelm the guilt I'll feel over not studying that day (which I probably wasn't gonna do anyway).
If I hadn't already committed (and double booked) for Saturday... Ah, well.
Saturday I'll be sitting on my couch with a sore hoohah, blasted on percoset and laughing at my textbook as I try to study for my European History final. Take that as you will.

No really, have a blast! I just wish that they could have waited to do this surgery until AFTER I came back from Florida, but perhaps I can convince the Squid to have some sort of Moosey celebration while I'm down. :mrgreen:

they're doing the office x-mas party today. I've been trying to avoid it because it's just a lot of christmas and Hanukkah music. but as an assistant, I get drafted to set up for bullshit like this. so I've done my set up, now I'm OUT!
I managed to escape before they began warming up. I'm trying not to make a big deal out of not going because I don't want to shit on anybody's parade...
But seriously, I find it a little alienating to have to do all this christmas stuff while I'm at work. I fills me with BAH HUMBUG, it really does.

I just got out of my meeting with the building manager.
He says that I'd be allowed to hang up a golden apple.
He had printed out the wikipedia article on Discordianism. He asked me a few questions about Discordia. It was kind of strange explaining it in a straightfaced way. After I got finished telling him about the sacred chao, and how we think humor/serious is more important than order/chaos and right/wrong, he awkwardly said "Well I think ... faith is good ... as long as you have faith in something .... uh, that's good."
He seemed a bit uncomfortable about letting me hang something on the Christmas tree. He said "Maybe you can find a christmas ornament that looks like a golden apple."
"Well that's kind of missing the point," I said, "That wouldn't be a Discordian decoration"
So now I've got to find an image that fits with the festive vibe, and maybe put it on a hook so I can hang it up.

That's what your office Christmas party is like? Every office Christmas party I have ever attended had food and booze and did not involve caroling.
we have two office parties
today's was the "holiday concert" which consists of 13 songs about jesus and two jewish songs for good measure.
Tomorrow is the real party, which is actually at a club in downtown White Plains. During the day. With an open bar. It's gonna be a mess.
My office is complete greyface vanilla secular. WE have "Holiday" decorations, a "holiday" tree, and motherfucking paper snowflakes.
The spirit of the season hangs over us like a sunfaded and half deflated "MAcy's" parade baloon, a half empty charlie brown of yesteryear, flaccid and slack for want of what used to hold it up. I won't out myself as ANY religion, but I hug a hoseclamp, calling it a "Festivus wreat".
Then I googly eyed the snowflake on my cube. MY coworkers lost it at that, thrilled by the novel, impetuou spirit. Ripe for witlessing, amidst half whispered "happy holidays" to our clients, ever warry that we might offend.
I'm home now, restoring a WWI helmet, pondering what to do next.
