Title: What are your hopes for 2012?
Post by: Mesozoic Mister Nigel on December 21, 2011, 08:48:15 PM
The 2011 in review thread is depressing. What are your hopes/plans for 2012?

So far 2012 looks promising for me. I am enrolled in school and crossing my fingers that my financial aid comes through in time. My ex is moving away so I will have my older two kids full-time with no financial support, but I think we'll be fine. My tax return should be finally arriving, and I will be able to file 2011's soon I hope, which will mean enough money to squirrel some away and get a bit ahead.

For the next eight years I plan to dedicate my life to SCIENCE! and also regular science. Yay! This is going to be the best end of the world EVER!

You know, I'm not really sure what I hope for 2012. I guess I really haven't given it much thought, but I agree that 2011 kinda blew, so I'll be happy to see it get the fuck out of here.

No freaky massacres that turn the country upside down for months, please.
Survive another year of school.
Find a summer job.
And..
I don't know, try to flirt with girls, grow a beard, something like that.

Turn NYEX into EX.

Find a real job with a real paycheck, this temp shit sucks.  (Spoke with agency today, gave them the end date I was given (end of February), and let them know to look for a temp to perm for me.  I'll start seriously looking on my own at the end of January.)

Those are the big ones, really.

Better job.
Better place to live.
Not make an ass out of myself in Amsterdam.

Failing the above, continue to stay out of my parent's house. This supporting myself thing is hard work but it is the one good thing I've accomplished this year.

I hope the financial-congressional swine are eaten alive by velociraptors poor people.

On my agenda for 2012: seducing an older woman, a massive prank to be conducted in broad daylight, begin learning Arabic, hold down this meat clerk job, contribute to an art show, finagle my way into a design firm, learn a dance, shoot some guns, do some cactus in the wilderness, become a larger animal through weight lifting, get a welding certificate in case the economy continues to suck, climb Mt. St. Helens again, learn a programming language, brew some mead, and paint a mural.

I am planning a trip to England in the fall.

Other than that, my plans are to try to keep this fucking plant running, and maybe have a weekend or two.

This is really getting out of hand.

-Find a job that won't make me depressed. The last two were unpleasant, yet somehow valuable experiences. Hoping for better!

-Get my act together! That means make a monthly meal plan/food budget, and start waking up early.

-Become transportationally potent! Ride my bike more, and maybe learn how to drive, just for the sake of knowing how to. It's not I'm going to pilot one of those rolling death-coffins for fun.

-Make new friends.

I'm going to keep my "Discordian-Zen-mindset" as my only mindset.
No more self-created depression (everything sucks man and all that) or "nihilistic and suicidal" drinking.
It seems highly possible to accomplish this.

I'm going to buy drums. Something simple. No doubble-bass or 10 toms needed right away.

And I really wish I will have the courage, time and the money to take singing lessons. I can sing somewhat, but I think I could do much better if there was a pro telling me the pro stuff.

I'm going to teach my daughter how to swim.

I wish I will be able to change my sleeping patterns, because they make no sense now.

This. I'd like to see some success and hence, joyful innocence come back to the world (like during Clinton. Even some third-world countries were riding the tech wave upwards) but I know that's asking too kuch. I'll settle for an emphasis on the current spirit of rebellion, some victory in that area and a giant, fucking Y2K-esque end-of-world party/rave that turns out to give people more of a sense of hope when the world doesn't end on 21 DEC 2012.

Can anyone grasp this? What I'm saying here? It sounds crazy, it's more a practical nostalgia thing.

No matter how fucked up your life is, the fact remains that at least you weren't born in 1870, as the Victorian era was the absolute worst time in history to not be a rich person.  Or hell, at least you weren't born in central fucking Africa, which is by all accounts a REALLY shitty place to spend Saturday night.

There is a unique state of ecstasy that can only result from conquering the bad time and coming out victorious. From being previously oppressed and the infectious vibe of excitement and hope and liberty when it's lifted. I get high on that shit, man. I get high on other people being happy and indulgent.

So much of the party is reliant on other people. It should be no surprise that sex and intimacy are more my vices than drugs are. Getting high off other people is what drives a lot of my behaviour and philosopy.

The worst torture in the world to me is to be isolated or surrounded by people in whom the lights are out--either because they're too stupid or too jaded to be touched by my efforts to turn on those lights.

Happy people, getting off, costumes, lights, art, debauchery, music, decadence, love, sex, comraderie...these things are a fucking drug. Anything people touch. Anything people use to touch others.

I can never escape the BIP because times of plenty and fun inevitably must end, but in this way, I have managed to create a riot in the chow hall for short periods of time that change people and myself...make them a little less bitter...make them think maybe a half-second longer before dismissing the next person's extended hand in frienship...a little less suspicious and certain that "everything sucks."

Yes, I'm feeding my own high. Yes, it's a matter of self-interest but it's the most divine selfishness of which I can conceive. And if you don't find that the least bit revolutionary...well, let's agree to disagree.

I hope someone invents a drug that raises IQ tenfold and then spikes the water supply with it

I hope the aliens turn up and I'm able to sell the majority of my fellow man to an intergalactic burger chain

I hope the climate continues to change in spectacular and dangerous ways - moar hurricanes in 2012 FTW!

I hope that someone cracks cinavia and restores my god given right to steal movies and watch them on my PS3

I hope that whomsoever is campaigning to have the price of alcohol raised in scotland is abducted and repeatedly gang raped, inna face, by rabid weasels

Tonight, as every other night of my life, I will pray for a zombie apocalypse to deliver me from the tedium of 21st century existence

Title: Re: What are your hopes for 2012?
Post by: P3nT4gR4m on February 01, 2012, 03:31:15 PM
It was back in the late 80's - early 90's and someone had just released a heavy duty encryption utility for the commodore Amiga (can't remember now if it was 32-bit 64-bit or 128-bit but it was more bits than your governators could stomach anyway). Around this time the US ministry of hostile paranoid psychosis announced that they had decided to classify this particular level of encryption "military grade" and it's use (by anyone, mind you) would be treated as an act of war.

Needless to say every cracked game that passed through our humble distribution network from then, right up until we got bored, included an official declaration of war on the USA, military grade encrypted of course. One of the victory conditions was something along the lines of "failure to respond to this declaration" by a certain date.

So, yeah, basically all your base are belong to us :lulz:

Yep.  You won.  You own the joint.

Now come over and fix it, will you?

From the office of the Scottish Empire Ministry of Foreign Occupation
(a division of operation landgrab)

Dear Sir/Madam,

We have noted your request for work to be undertaken with regards to your landmass (one United States of America) and the reparation thereof.

We regret to inform you that all our repair crews are currently way too drunk to even consider the possibility of giving the merest hint of a flying fuck, let alone actually getting off their lazy arses and doing anything about it but, in the event that this situation changes at any point in the next decade or so, please rest assured that your request has been duly noted, herewith and notwithstanding.

Your call is important to us and we are currently doing everything we can be arsed to (and less) in order to bring a prompt and satisfactory resolution to your problem.

Love and kisses

Hamish McWankstain
Minister of the Holy Suppository

As a last resort, we could occupy this years autonomous mutant festival, after crashing burning man from convoys of decommissioned amphibious tanks...  Just saying...
