Title: Dudeism
Post by: Cramulus on January 18, 2012, 03:35:52 PM
There must be a topic about this somewhere already...

From what I can tell, Dudeism is another neophilic irreligion. It seems like a mix of Taoism and the Big Lebowski.

Quote from: http://dudeism.com/An ancient philosophy that preaches non-preachiness, practices as little as possible, and above all, uh...lost my train of thought there. Anyway, if you'd like to find peace on earth and goodwill, man, we'll help you get started. Right after a little nap.

QuoteThe idea is this: Life is short and complicated and nobody knows what to do about it. So don't do anything about it. Just take it easy, man. Stop worrying so much whether you'll make it into the finals. Kick back with some friends and some oat soda and whether you roll strikes or gutters, do your best to be true to yourself and others – that is to say, abide.

I found it because I found this weird version of the sacred chao while looking for copyleft imagery. This Discordian thinks dudeism and eris are in accordance, check it out:  http://dudeism.com/smf/index.php?topic=1973.0

Like us, they've even got their own version of the Tao Te Ching, the Dude De ching: http://dudeism.com/tao/ - this was clearly written in the same way we wrote the Chao Te Ching; they started with a chapter from the Tao Te Ching and played with it until it felt like something from The Big Lebowski.

The manifestos and such by most of their writers get old really fast, since there are only so many ways you can force lines from the movie into content (especially when there's not usually a lot being said when you disregard the movie lines) but the basic concept is solid and their FB feed is a good way to keep up with Lebowski-related news and merch.

The Dude himself has endorsed Kamala Harris for POTUS.

"The Dude Abides Kamala: Jeff Bridges Joins 'White Dudes for Harris' Fundraiser"

""I qualify, man. I'm white, I'm a dude, and I'm for Harris," he said."

As per this article:

"Jeff Bridges, whose portrayal of slacker Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski in 1998's The Big Lebowski spawned an annual festival and even a religion, emphatically endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign during a "White Dudes For Harris" Zoom fundraising call Monday night.

"I qualify, man. I'm white, I'm a dude, and I'm for Harris," he said on the call, which he fielded from a recliner in a garage."

Here's the link:   The Dude Endorses (https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-dude-abides-kamala-jeff-bridges-joins-white-dudes-for-harris-fundraiser)

Now, I would have thought the Dudeists would be concerned about losing their 'religious tax exempt status' with the IRS, for violating 'The Restriction of Political Campaign Intervention by Section 501(c)(3) Tax-Exempt Organizations.'

But, now that I've thought about it, they were probably too lazy to file for 'religious tax exempt status' in the first place.

While I like that Jeff bridges has endorsed her, I prefer to think that The Dude would not be all that tuned in with what is currently happening in the world of politics.

Can we endorse The Dude as president instead, or is Vermin Supreme still the prime eristocrat-at-heart candidate?

Vermins buy everyone in the US a pony was 6billion, trumps wall was 80bn.
That's why moderate centrists like vermin will always lose out to the joke candidate

It is written in THE BOOK, "In the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier there lives a bowling alley, and within this very place, in the year of Our Lady of Discord 3125 (1959*), Eris revealed Herself to The Golden Apple Corps for the first time.

In honor of this Incredible Event, this Holly Place is revered as a Shrine by all Erisians. Once every five years, the Golden Apple Corps plans a Pilgrimage to Brunswick Shine as an act of Devotion, and therein to partake of No Hot Dog Buns, and ruminate a bit about it All."

And, Episkopos Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst, KSC, himself wrote in his 5th edition introduction to THE BOOK, "All bowling alleys are sacred to Discordians and, if necessary, you must give your life to protect them from desecration - if anyone ever decides to desecrate bowling alleys."

Therefore, as a student of Comparative Religion, who aspires to one day become a true Discordian Knower, I have been diligently researching the origins and similarities of the beliefs shared between Discordians and Dudeists regarding bowling alleys.

In the course of my recent research, I found that the Dudeists, as is done by us Discordians, designate their own holidays. And, quite by accident, I found that August 10th was both National Bowling Day, and National Lazy Day in the US of A.

Now, in Discordianism it is 'bowling alleys' that are held sacred. But, I've found nothing to indicate that the 'act of bowling' itself is held in the same high regard. On the other hand, for the Dudeists, it appears to me that the 'act of bowling' is central to their belief system. Yet, the Dudeists did not declare August 10th to be one of their holidays. I mean, for Eris' sake, they could have scored a Holy Holiday Trifecta on August 10th! But, to give credit where credit is due, those Dudeist slackers really do have a lock on laziness.
