https://www.aclu.org/blog/reproductive-freedom/use-birth-control-youre-fired
QuoteAnd we aren't talking here just about exemptions for religiously affiliated employers like Catholic hospitals and universities. We are talking about authorizing secular, for-profit employers to deny a woman coverage for birth control if the employer doesn't believe that she and her partner should be allowed to have sex without getting pregnant. Yup, that's right. If the owner of the Taco Bell where you work opposes birth control, Arizona legislators want to give him a legal right to deny you insurance coverage for your pills.
Sadly, that isn't even the half of it. You may want to sit down for this one. Arizona legislators know that whether or not her insurance covers it, a woman may get the prescription she needs to prevent an unintended pregnancy. They want to give her boss the right to control that too. The bill they are pushing would not only allow employers to take the insurance coverage away, but it would also make it easier for an employer who finds out that his employee uses birth control to fire her. You heard me right . . . to fire her.
Just....fucking.....wow.

FUCKING
HELL
ARIZONA.
Just another Tuesday Night here in Fuckin' Fat AZ. :lulz:
This is making me glad I didn't follow through with going to a college in AZ.
. . . Oh Tucson, you wily beast, you. If you can't lure more supplicants into your howling maw, by God, you'll breed them.
It occurs to me that conservatives have their own way of "taking it to the fucking wall."
I can't wait to see the guides on how to act in an interview get updated to deal with this bullshit
They don't like to give maternity leave, either.
"BOSS MY WATER BROKE"
"GET A MOP"
That is absurd.
But of course. A good boss would already have a bucket in place saving valuable company time and resources.
Want prices to go down? Well we wnat wages to go down! The only way to compromise on this is to send your personal fetus tank to get back in the kitchen make you a sandwich and then lie down in bed waiting for you to get home and give another genetic deposit!
She might not be happy but thats what we have pills for!
I really feel like the AZ legislature are just out to fuck with women's history month as much as possible. This is like the third horrible piece of legislation that has come out of that clusterfuck in the past two weeks.
Arizona is slowly becoming a third world country. Pretty soon Mexico annexing it will be an improvement.
Why is Arizona trying to out-crazy the rest of the states?
Arizona...we love you think you have the potential to be alright. Stop being such an attention whore.

Dude, its a desert. The sun wil fry your brain faster than an egg on the sidewalk if you don't wear a hat, and most people don't wear hats here.
Corey Robin, he of The Reactionary Mind, says this is pretty normal fare for conservatives - beyond the usual suspect attitudes towards women, it also involves farming out the actual mechanism of restricting women's reproductive rights by acting not through the state (where the constitution may be used to mount a challenge) but instead giving the private sector the power to do it.
He uses how McCarthyism was much more prevalent among employers during the 1950s than it ever was in government as evidence for this. Apparently, your employers really wanted to know how you felt about NATO, normalising relations with the USSR and your thoughts on the Korean War, back in the day. And roughly 40% of American workers were being kept under surveillance for possible Communist sympathies.
Basically, republicans are going to let your employer look for tiny communists in your vagina.

They're
everywhere!
Dude, I've been bitching about this shit for awhile. Lately, it does seem like what ever the dumbest, most extreme caller on the Rush Limbaugh show says (even if the rest of the neocons say "well I think that's going a little too far") seems to end up as an actual legislation proposal in AZ or SD.
Basically, they were arguing about the "Constitutionally protected rights" (LOL) of Catholic and religious small businesses to not be compelled to purchase a product they disagree with. Someone spoke up and said something to the effect of: "Well, liberals are saying this sets a bad precedent for companies to selectively eschew what they don't want to pay for (it does) and for insurance companies to deny reproductive coverage to all insured women (it does) but I don't see how that's so because x, y and z..."
Inevitably, a batshit caller called in to say "Well, why would that be wrong? I don't see why unwed mothers (black people) should be having sex in the first place unless they're ready to deal with the consequences!"
Bingo, bango! Legislation popped out, a few months later! Someone slap it on the bottom and put a diaper on it cause I think this one's gonna shit all over the house before the election is over.

They're already collecting pee and hairs to see if any employees happened to attend a party over the weekend. And poring over facebook looking for seditious comments like "my job sucks". Looking for tiny communists is the next logical step.

RIGHT?!?
Fuck.
So... I haven't tracked down a copy of this bill, yet, mostly because I don't want to projectile vomit...
Sounds to me like it needs a rider to add that men who buy condoms will also be fired.
Roger, you keep letting shit like this fly down there and I won't be able to make my pilgrimmage down there, they'll pitch me in jail for a mass murderer.
Stuff like this is actually becoming such a big issue it looks like Republicans might lose the election because of it.

If this is the way they're gonna go, they deserve to lose.

You know, I was going to make some crack about conservatives and gender equality...and then I found out a woman (Debbie Lesko) penned this bill. So. Yeah. I don't know. That's just sort of upsetting.
She should have her vagina revoked.
State employees wont have to worry about that sort of thing, so, naturally, she is all for it.
Just like how several public officer holders who cite "religious reasons" why contraception access should be restricted do not, contrary to all expected outcomes, have families of 10+ children.
Although it could just be the case that the likes of Sam Brownback really has only ever had sex three times in his life. He has that "blue balls" air about him.

It's like Jesus comes down and stops the babies from coming out for married Christians after two or three so they can get on with doing the Lord's work. Maybe he sticks his finger in the hole.

The timing and progression really does make me suspicious that this issue was manufactured by the Obama camp.
Having thoroughly pissed off the progressive base, done nothing to impress the independents and given even the truest of true-blue dems reason to feel really fucking dumb right now, about his only hedge was to pray for some combination of Palin/Santorum/Bachman to emerge out of the primaries...When the slim hope for Santorum to pull off the nomination, turned to nil, all of a sudden this "religious contraception thing" popped up.
A pseudo-legitimate stink is raised. Obama "compromises" by sticking to his original position only wording it differently. Smells like victory but tastes like bullshit. Perfect recipe for convincing an entire party that they can win political points by pissing off every rational human being within ear-shot.
If this doesn't do the trick, I expect to see a proposed Constitutional Amendment banning the use of the word "Darwin" within 500 feet of schools, churches or military recruiting stations.
I think its more likely that the entire country, possibly the whole world too, is going insane.
Uh, just because they're after you don't mean you're not paranoid.
While I wouldn't put it past anyone of any party loyalty to start some shit like that, the fact is, there are enough fucking retards all on their own fostering shit like this in AZ without going to the lengths of "troll legislation."

Agreed, but to say that this shenanigans is being masterminded by Obama's supporters instead of pandering to their voter base (which is what this is) is a bit far fetched.
But only a bit.

I concur with Freeky. And I'd like to add that this here bill is some crazy bullshit. It makes me wonder what they're doing behind the scenes while we're all raging about this blatant stupidity.
Patting themselves on the back and thinking of how else to please the rich(ish), retired, white male of Arizona, I expect.

I'd like to think that's fantastically paranoid.
It's not, at all, I'd just like to think it is.
